davieG Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 From the OS King Acknowledges Loanees Impact Posted on: Mon 08 Nov 2010 Despite City fielding a back-line comprising of four loan players at Barnsley on Saturday, stand-in skipper Andy King believes that the players are all very much part of the club ethic that gained the 2-0 win at Oakwell. With Kyle Naughton, Curtis Davies, Greg Cunningham and Miguel Vitor all in the starting eleven, the City Academy graduate was quick in acknowledging the efforts of the boys at the back: "They were outstanding and really gave us the base to go forward. We were so tight at the back and looked really solid. We expected Barnsley to come at us the whole game and for us to dominate most of the match was good. They were at home where they are expected to be strong and are not too bad themselves, so it was nice to get the win which I think we fully deserved. I thought some of the performances were outstanding." The win makes it two successive victories with King wearing the captain's armband, a role that the young midfielder is proud to be asked to fulfil: "It is something I enjoy doing but it is only for the time being while Matt Oakley is out. I was asked to do it and yes I enjoy it." As well as skippering the side to victory, King also rounded off the win with the second goal for good measure. He said: "It is always nice to score, especially having had one disallowed in the first half and wondering if I would get another chance. It was a great ball in from Paul Gallagher and luckily I was able to tuck it in." With boss Sven-Goran Eriksson keen on pace in the side, the Oakwell display was a much sharper performance by City and King said: "That is one of the main things we have now, with Martyn Waghorn up front and Lloyd Dyer coming in. Darius Vassell, even though not fully fit, was fast so imagine how quick he is going to be when he gets up to full match fitness."
Ric Flair Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Absolute hero. This boy is destined for greatness. Fook Bale, King is gold.
Corky Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Shows how much faith Sven has in him by making him captain. Brilliant.
Fosse Boy Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Hope he's the sort of player who thrives on this kind of responsibility. Judging by Saturday's performance he may well be. Anyone know if he ever skippered in his youth?
MPH Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Clever move by sven to make him captain. He can either go warm a prem bench in january (there WILL be offers) or he can gain the experience of captaining a side winning games...
Wymsey Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Great player and lad. I predict i very bright future ahead of him (maybe not for playing for Wales )
Bryn Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 I would just love for him to be a one club man and captain this side for a decade or more. Tempted to get the black away shirt with his name on the back, first time I've ever considered it, but I fear him leaving
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 I would just love for him to be a one club man and captain this side for a decade or more. Seconded. In the past we have worried about our best players looking to move on to better clubs, but I don't see that with King. It almost feels like, yes, he's aiming to be a Premiership player, but he wants to drag the club along with him*. Top lad! *I've now probably jinxed it so that he gets snapped up by someone like Wigan in the January transfer window
nickelbyfox Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 I know it was a long time ago but what happened to the captain write ups on the website? Remember reading tiatto's which was quite interesting. Or do the captains write up in the match day programmes? Would love to read about what King or even Oakley would have to say about everything.
mountsorrel fox Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 All i can say is once a fox always a fox!
Thracian Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Seconded. In the past we have worried about our best players looking to move on to better clubs, but I don't see that with King. It almost feels like, yes, he's aiming to be a Premiership player, but he wants to drag the club along with him*. Top lad! *I've now probably jinxed it so that he gets snapped up by someone like Wigan in the January transfer window I'm not at all sure he'd go, even if given the chance. Kingy might be young but he's not some flash, impressionable kid and his captain's armband pays testimony to that. In fact he's the definition of "feet on the floor". He was at Chelsea before he came to City so he knows all about trying to make an impression when surrounded by superstars of whatever age. From all I've seen he loves it at Leicester and is fully aware that the club has given him every chance (Holloway excepted) to build a career. He's progressed as fast as anyone could have hoped through to the first team and captaincy of City and also through to the Welsh senior side. His abilities are known and appreciated at Leicester and, while it is not impossible for anyone to be tempted, I don't think Kingy would swop a potential bit-part role at a struggling or middling Premiership side for what he's got here, especially given the current, exciting, regime and Sven's liking for King's style of football. Yes, situations can change, but King is the kind of player who's more likely to shine with people he knows than those he doesn't and I think it would take a great deal to prise him away from what he has here. And, quite apart from anything else Leicester is a relatively convenient place for his dad to see him play - once again he was there in the stand with our fans at Barnsley - and places like Wigan would not be nearly so convenient. Nor should it be ignored how well his name goes with that of the club owner's core business, King Power. Of course that's coincidence but it's quite a marketable coincidence nevertheless. And the club has been quick to see it, with his image being the main thrust of shirt advertising around the ground, his elevation to the captaincy and his regular appearances as a club spokesman. Happily he's thoroughly deserved the recognition and responded to it admirably. It's given him a higher profile than he likely imagined and one that means he's got more to lose than most in moving anywhere.
shailen Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 lets just hope he stays with us for at least a few seasons. I do think prem clubs will go in for him, but our financial position atm means we dont have to sell Awesome player he reminds me of Gerrard/ Lampard

ajthefox Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 There is definitely something different about King and as has been said he's destined for big things, fingers crossed with us. I
Heskey2011 Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Shows how much faith Sven has in him by making him captain. Brilliant. Yeah, agree, for me, Sven's spotted a potential banana skin in King being tempted away to the prem because if he continues playing the way he has at the beginning of this season a good few will be interested, keep him skippering the side and he can build something real, ie/ premier league and well, the sky's the limit i suppose.
The Doctor Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 I know it was a long time ago but what happened to the captain write ups on the website? Drift Posted 9 November 2010 Posted 9 November 2010 Chances of Oakley seeing that captains armband again?
