armstonfox Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 I Dont get it, Wellens will have the ball about 20 yards out and will always look for the difficult pass instead of shooting. If he gives the ball straght to them, there on the counter because our midfield has pushed up and then were foooked. Is it a confidence factor or just that he doesnt want to fook it up?
martyn Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 He can't shoot, it's a shame as he's often the midfielder who finds himself in space 30 yards out. His body position and technique when striking from distance is terrible yet still our knowledgeable crowd shout SHOOOOT when he's 25 yards out.
Ozwin Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 That's one aspect of his game I hate, he's one of my favourite players but he always tries the Arsenal ball instead of just wellying it into the net.
Joe. Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 If you have seen him shoot, you'll probably have noticed that he's not actually very good at it.
Matt Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 Why do twats consistently shout shoot regardless of the opportunities open whenever a player is on the edge of the box, only for the player to shoot and see it go flying over the bar then moan and groan about it?!

Yes ok then, so the players shoot coz the crowd say shoooooot!!!!! Ha ha
Matt Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 Yes ok then, so the players shoot coz the crowd say shoooooot!!!!! Ha ha I didn't say that did I? When fans shout shoot and the player shoots they moan and groan when it sails over the bar. Where have I said the players shoot because the crowd want them too or everytime the crowd shout shoot?

Corky Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 It's not that he doesn't shoot, it seems that the alternative doesn't tend to come off either which is most frustrating.
Kent Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 It's not that he doesn't shoot, it seems that the alternative doesn't tend to come off either which is most frustrating. I think half the time when shooting is the only logical option he tries to play someone else in because he knows his shooting is weak, but surely he can at least drill it low and give the keeper something to think about rather than blaze it over the bar, that's what gets me. I'm not saying he always blazes it over the bar or that he always misses, but it sometimes seems like he goes for the top corner rather than making sure it's at least on target.

Yes, test the keeper out and hopefully there's someone in position for the rebound.
Ashley Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 A friend of mine who post on here J.Lisemore spoke to him after the WBA match last season(away) and he asked Wellens why doesnt he shoot, the reply he got was Pearson doesnt like it when I shoot/tells me not. What a load of balls! Yes I know Pearson isnt in charge anymore....
shailen Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 he hasnt got a shot on him. He plays in a more DM position, and picks up loose balls. He also is the best passer of the ball in my opinion at the club, hardly ever looses the ball. Xavi-like.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 The only time I can remember him shooting is against Sheff Utd last season at home where he hit the bar, and away at Derby where he made the keeper pull off a great save. Usually he never wants to shoot for whatever reason.
AyewJoking Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 I'm sure he would shoot if he was good at it.
deep blue Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 Does anyone know how many goals he scored for Doncaster in the season before he joined us? I've been puzzled at his inability for us in that department because I had the feeling that he was into double figures with Donnie. But if that's correct, maybe most of them were penalties.

Mee Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 Sometimes the player's can be not very confident when it comes to a shooting situation. I think he should shoot more, yes, but he does pick some decent passes out on the wings, to offer a different approach into the box.
Jacnah Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 'Cause he's shite. sorry...missed this illuminating point......as milan says..coz hes shite....ish...don't want to knock him to much
orangecity23 Posted 11 November 2010 Posted 11 November 2010 Wellens isn't a good shot, and he's more aware of this than anyone. When he gets into any kind of shooting position, he desperately looks for a pass because he's afraid he'll fook up the shot. Because of this indescision, when he does actually take a shot it's only after dithering to the point where he no longer has any hope of hitting the target. He misses badly, and the next time he gets into a shooting position, he desperately looks for a pass to avoid missing the shot ... repeat ad infinitum. Of course, the irony is that if he just made his mind up straight away, then he probably would get more shots on target and score more goals. It's all in the head.
Flynny Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 He used to shoot a lot more and was awful at it. Shoots less now. Seems fair.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 He might not be the best striker of the ball but he is a decent Championship player which really means he should be able to hit the target from 25 yards more often than not. Maybe he just doesn't like scoring goals or maybe he gets more pleasure out of seeing others score while he looks on like a proud father.
