Ipswich Town away Post-Match Thread

It was a terrible game to watch and should never have kicked-off. I wasn't impressed with either side really. I though Ipswich were lucky to have the ball fall to them early on for the goal and after that the whole game was a shambles.

We were effected more by the conditions as we are one of the best "footballing" teams in the league, and these conditions were not suited for this. We needed to keep it tight at the back with no nonsense defending and be patient upfront.

We didn't do that at all and tried to play our usual game in crazy conditions, whereas Ipswich adapted better and took advantage of our failing system.

Sven tried to change it early on with Howard and I respect him for not being afraid to alter things before half-time. However, with the conditions worsening, and Ipswich boosted by the goal, we never got going and were always on the back foot and praying for it to be called off.

I actually think we would have beaten them on a playable pitch, that's the most frustrating thing.

Oh well, will try and forget about today's horror show and looking for a backlash against a confident Leeds!

Just hope any injuries sustained today aren't too serious. Fingers crossed.

Game shouldn't have gone on, but nevertheless our players were near on a disgrace.

If the game's on, it's on. Play the fucker. Stopping play at one point in the first half to remonstrate with the ref was crazy. And at no point did any of them really look like they wanted to be there. Despite Attwell fooking around and not having a clue what he was doing at any point, you've got to carry on but today we offered nothing in any way, shape or form.

Sure, our defending was poor on some of the goals, but EVERYTHING was poor today.

I watched the game at a bar--there were three of us watching this on one TV while dozens more watched Barcelona in a later kickoff on 10 screens. Usually, when I watch Leicester in the Championship, we're a mere afterthought, stuck in the corner on one TV while fans of big teams might occasionally glance in that direction, sneer, and get on with their glory-hunting. Today, however, we were a freak show. I was asked, "They're playing?!" and "The ref is allowing this?!" many times during the game by perplexed fans that caught a glimpse of the train wreck of a match on one of the TVs... but almost as much as that, "Who's playing? Where is this?" as if I were watching amateur football in Greenland or Antarctica.

Sven said that if he weren't a fan of either side and was at a bar in Sweden or Australia, he'd stop watching. Actually, it seemed like the opposite occurred: it was almost like a car crash where drivers slow down and rubberneck to see the wreckage on the side of the road.

Also, injuries happen all of the time but I have no doubt that these conditions increased the risk of injury significantly--and we'll find out all about that within the next few days.

The Ipswich fan there loved the result, no doubt, but I joked about the farce of a game and said if Saturday morning cartoons were on TV for two hours instead of football and at the end, Ipswich got three points, he wouldn't complain! I'd have loved it if Leicester got the win, but I wouldn't have felt too smug--the Ipswich fan there did not even take the game all that seriously watching it and his team was winning.

That said, this weather would have made for a fvcking awesome NFL game. And this game was certainly a novelty--at least I can say I watched this kind-of-almost-historic game on TV. Mad props to the Leicester fans that made the trip to Portman Road--truly loyal supporters.

Can someone please explain to me how you prepare to play in these conditions?

Growing up in Sweden should give you something of a head start......

Jesus fvcking wept.

Well, let's just start with the obvious; anyone who thinks that game should've gone ahead is a one brain-celled disabled, so congratulations to $ky and Twattwell, nice one, you bunch of utter cvnts.

Now onto Leicester - I think they were so convinced it'd be called off that they gave up, well, that's a total lack of character, fvcking bail all this "Sven's got 20 titles" gobshite, does that mean every single move he makes is spot on? Course fvcking well not, he clearly didn't have us motivated for a scrappy battle in the snow, which is what we should've known we'd get.

It's just our luck that it has gone against our style of play - the weather, the fact it was on Sky forcing the game on, but we can only blame ourselves for the fvcking shit we served up, utterly woeful display, a fvcking embarrassment in fact.

We'll finish mid-table, fvck any promotion talk, fvck any relegation talk, we can look forward to revisiting bollocks like this because we're too inconsistent to fall into promotion or relegation. Geniunely wouldn't be surprised if we didn't lose at home all season yet didn't win away - because it's two different sides turn up for us.

Coach Two was a decent craic, shame it was spoilt on the way there by Kevin & Perry being "not nice", fvcking hell, is that our serious away day mentality? Jesus.

Sorry for the even higher use of bad language, i'm just REALLY FVCKED OFF at the fact that utter joke was played today, and that we've become the laughing stock of the weekend on TV, again.

Fvck off Sky, fvck off Attwell, fvck off dis-interestedness, and fvck off Ipswich, you small-time wools.

Also to add.

"The referee has paused the game, this is due to the weather conditions, please remain seated in the interests of Safety for an announcement".

There are that many fvcking contradictions with that, it's actually so fvcking laughable, it's actually fooking unbelievable.

lol

Jesus.

Farcical.

Should never have even started.

Obviously the H&S exec at Ipswich is on par with ours or even worse.

But then again SKY probably had a MASSIVE say in it.

However we were shite from the start, lacked any heart and desire and Sven should stop starting with loanees who aint even fit(Kirkland)

Just cos you got em on loan dont mean you have to playe em!

Another note, the game should have been PP for the fans' safety regarding getting travelling home, the roads etc around Portman Rd must have horrendous.

Anway on a brighter note, atleast we will beat Leeds on Boxing day as our current run of away loss then home win continues!!!

:santa:

Haven't read the thread and didn't attend (watched the game in the pub) so just going to say this :

First and foremost, total sympathy to the fans who travelled to watch that shower of shit. The game never should have gone ahead BUT it did and Ipswich were up for it and coped with the conditions far better than we did. We never looked up for it from the off and there should be no excuses as it was a level playing field so to speak.

We were an embarrassment, the whole lot of them should be ashamed. Totally inept.

I've still got faith we will do well this season and this was a freak game, but the players should be ashamed of their performance in front of the hardy fans who made the trip this evening.

Agree with this. 3-0 down in first half. Against donny last week we could have been facing the same scoreline with the chances they missed, and in perfect conditions.

How many away matches this season have we failed to turn up in the first 30 mins? We seem to be chasing games far too often, is this lack of preparation or some players can't be bothered?

Something is fundamentally wrong and needs sorting fast if this season is to be saved and play offs are to be achieved.

Both Davies and Vassell had hamstrings earlier and rested before the game, Kirkland and Vitor with their background. How the f**k can we play under cirumstances like this....

Ipswich had nothing to loose and it was at their ground. They know the conditions in and out. I believ Abe was the only one with feets in this and he was mugged because of the snow.

As for injuries, we don't have so many quality players as backup. We need at least 6-8 players more to fill the gaps and the possibility to let players like Vassell and Davies rest or be benched under theese situations.

Forget this and we'll be back. Both QPR and Swansea lost so it wasn't so bad.

We see this all the time when Sky televise speedway matches. If Sky were not there it would be called off, but racing takes place in unnecessarily dangerous conditions just to ensure Sky get their match and their viewing figures. Safety and entertainment are not the priorities when Sky are in town.

Yesterday's match should obviously not have started, comparing the images from Ipswich with those from other grounds where matches were called off early. Yes, we were awful - compared with Ipswich - but it wouldn't be wise to make judgements on anyone's performance in those freak conditions. There's another factor that S****horpe boss Ian Baraclough picked up on recently - the safety of the public who are expected to travel to matches that are not called off early. Baraclough suggested Sky have undue influence over matches going ahead. It's notable that today's Chelsea/Man U match was called off yesterday, rather than today, when there would have been more pressure to get the match on. I can't imagine Fergie willingly sending his team out to play in conditions like we had to endure, but Man U and Chelsea were saved from being put in that position.

This game has drawn me into registering i have previously resisted all temptation to register here due to the high moron ratio but this one has got the better of me.

Was it only leicester that had to contend with the conditions?.. no

Were the conditions in any way an advantage to Ipswich more than they were to leicster?....no

Was the result a fair one?....yes

Was the result influenced by any descision made by stuart atwell the referee?....no

Was the pitch frozen hard?...No

What in the living **** is wrong with people i applaud the fact the match went ahead and i applaud stuart atwell for having the balls to go ahead with it how many times have the same members here pissed and moaned about fixture pile ups and games getting called off? fooking plenty well make your mind up because im sure you will be back to pissing and moaning the next time a game is called off.

Take those rose tinted glasses off numptys we didnt lose because of the weather.

As for sven well im very dissapointed in his comments is all i will say blame shifting is not the word why wont he man up and take some responsibility.

Looks like you've proved everyone wrong. Good job.

Was the result influenced by any descision made by stuart atwell the referee?.....YES. Did you miss the disallowed goal and concrete penalty for the handball.

Was the pitch frozen hard?......YES. According to Stringers twitter and the sky pundit whose pen nearly snapped when he tried to push it in the groud,

Besides, the majority aren't blaming the weather for the result, but the team for their failure to adapt to the weather. The game being postponed is a completely different topic.

Looks like the moron ratio isn't going to improve any time soon. Your opinions are pretty irrelevant if you miss out on obvious points like these.

Have you ever tried to push a pen into the ground after a couple of weeks of dry warm weather?...it will snap never mind "oooooo my pen nearly snapped" should games be called off in august/september because of dry weather?

im as pissed off as anybody that we lost but take those rose tinted glasses off and grow a pair snow had fook all to do with the resultand neither did the referee they are dumb excuses.

your other points are frankly pathetic grow up bye.

This was definately in favour of Ipswich. It was a fair result because the match was on but Ipswich definately had much more to win and it was on their ground.

We play football and slippery slides isn't football.

We risked too much injuries with a thin team already. I could agree with your opinion if Sven had many player options to play but we don't.

Take off your rugby tinted glasses and yes, we lost because of the weather. Or you can use the excuse injuries and the risk of injuries.

I respect your slightly more balanced view i bloody hate egg chasers though!!!!!!!!!! :)

slippery slides should be as much part of the game as much as muddy flip flop and oh bugger its hot im burning!(and a squad built to accomadate the english game)

or maybe we should just move the game indoors and play all games on some sort of fuzzy felt and sterilise the game even more than it has been already.

Seriously? There's not quite the amount of ice around in august to cause you to fall onto said hard ground that there was yesterday.

**** off now if you just have unjustified points and are just going to insult people.

woke up today still annoyed at the result. for me we have too many loan signings and there was only going to be one winner in those conditions, ipswich in a relegation battle or us lower mid table with loan signings who dont want to get injured before the transfer window, any loan signing who as no intention of staying with us,should piss off now for me.we need players who are gonna battle for this club not ones who are using us to put themselves in the shop window.end of rent still annoyed!

Again proof that it's all about control. Nothing more, nothing less.

The ball was rolling fine, we just played like pussies in the first half, men against boys.

Funny how some forget the snow at Donny last season particularly 2nd half, there were no complaints with the 1-0 win there.

Of course the pitch was frozen hard. The temperature in Ipswich had been below freezing for days on end and had been as low as -10 the night before. They don't even have undersoil heating. I imagine those who were actually there (Stringer, the Sky Pundit, for example) are best-placed to make a judgement on whether it was or wasn't frozen. Were you on the pitch yesterday?

In my opinion the conditions did suit Ipswich as they are a tough battling side, the conditions suited their play as the ball did not run true. It is also true we were outplayed in the first half so Ipswich deserved to be in the lead.

Should the match have continued, absolutely NO, nothing to do with the football or who were the better team.

Second half was a farce, as was the third half, neither side was able to play but I have to mention Kyle Naughton who tried his best for the whole of the match to get the ball and do something with it, he never stopped.

Also I must mention the atmosphere in the second half, the second 'half time' and the third half, it was brilliant everyone singing some funny songs, bouncing around and having a great time. It made the trip worth while.

We can't see you through the snow.

Small town in Lapland

let's all build a snowman and many more, ivapplaud my fellow fans who were there kept singing and supporting and thanks to Yuki who walked the length of the pitch at the end, he looked pissed off and tired but came and clapped and bowed in front of us.

No, what I like to see is a game played on some aspect of grass. By half-time there was no grass to be seen, just a carpet of snow.

We lost the game because Ipswich took their chances, but as a spectacle it was dreadful, Ipswich misplaced plenty of passes as well, they just had a striker who took his opportunities.
