YEP Digital Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Max Gradel insists revenge is the last thing on his mind ahead of his first return to the Walkers. Gradel admits to having had differences of opinion with certain individuals during the latter stages of his time at City, which saw him drop down the pecking order after playing 32 times during the club's League One title procession in 2008-09. Collymore Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 What a lad. Love him. In one way I'm gutted that he has left us and on the other I'm so glad he's being given the chance to show what I always knew he had the potential of doing. Gradel just needed to be managed and loved, for some reason our club couldn't do that.

Gradel just needed to be managed and loved, for some reason our club couldn't do that. He's still as inconsistent as he ever was for us, Grayson has said as much recently. Shame he never got a chance, would have been nice to see him and Lloyd in the formation we are playing now. He's gone, time to move on... most people have except the odd one (i'm looking at you Thrac).
Matt Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 The only thing i'll disagree with Pearson is selling this boy. Apart from bringing Dickov back...Or was that a Mandaric decision. ...Or we're both a Mandaric decision.
tomtom Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Bags of pace, could beat a man but dreadful delivery,... shame he didn't make it with us but not a massive loss Yes I know he will score now!
Guest BlueBrett Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 I couldn't believe it when I heard we had let him go. His potential was clear for all to see and more than that he was such an exciting player who could transform the atmosphere inside the Walkers all by himself. Hopefully he'll try a bit too hard on Boxing Day. If not I can see him doing some damage. Either way he'll definitely make a positive contribution to what should already be a pretty decent atmosphere. Glad he is doing well but I really wish we had kept him.
Jimmy Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 would of been good in this system, but never really got the chance and I think we sold too early, as for Gradel not "being out for revenge", why would he? Pearson has left so who else would have been in a position to stop him playing after a fall out?
Corky Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 I hope he does well for them (after Sunday obviously) and I wish him the best. It didn't work out here for whatever reason but he's a lad you can't not like, and that free-kick against MK Dons was something to remember.
Thracian Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 He's still as inconsistent as he ever was for us, Grayson has said as much recently. Shame he never got a chance, would have been nice to see him and Lloyd in the formation we are playing now. He's gone, time to move on... most people have except the odd one (i'm looking at you Thrac). Young players are inconsistent. They are also often emotional and reactional. Pearson couldn't cope with the individual that he was and we lost a guy who loved this club and were left with alternatives who weren't in his class and didn't have any of his potential. His departure was symptomatic of our failings. I've used the word functional before and all we've been able to handle or have wanted to handle at City for years are the functional and disciplined. It takes someone like Sir Alex to handle people who are brilliant but temperamental - but it's what makes winning managers. How well or otherwise he plays against us will be irrelevent. He's a highly talented player who can make things happen and effect games - in other words he's priceless in this age of systemised monotony. He'll not reach his peak for some time but is one of very few players we've had in the last 10 years with any chance of establishing himself in the Premiership - something of a condemnation in itself. We gave him away to Leeds in preference to the likes of N'Guessan yet people tell me how much they trust our "professionals". Well the fact it our first team professional managers and coaches - and there have been so many - have achieved next to nothing in the last 10 years. Hell we've even forgotten how to score from corners and some of our professional failings have been laughable for all Fatbloke's doubtless disagreeing.

MPH Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 I wonder if the issue for Pearson with Gradel was his lack of defensive attriutes. With Pearson being an ex CB he would be defensively minded. I wonder if he considered a genuine winger to be a luxury? Now don't get me wrong Gradel tracked back on occasions and his efforts were admirable add to the fact he was indeed inconsistent I think, in Pearsons eyes, made Gradel a hot potato. Being the disciplinarian Pearson was he probably also considered it disrespectful of Max to keep asking toplay. A lot of this is guess work I suppose but what atre messageboards if you can't share your opinions? On a slightly different note. A prolific winger is a valuable commodity and if Gradel gets into double figures before the end of January Leeds , and indeed Max might be getting offers they can't refuse. Thracian is right- on his day Max can creat something out of nothing and coming off the benchfor a lowly prem team For the last 30 minutes could galvanise a team with his passion and trickery. He could snatch a vital away point or turn a drab draw into a narrow home win. 2 years ago I think his shortcomings outweighed his plus points forthe position we were in - we needed a regular starter and at the time I just don't think he could keep it together for 90 minutes which mad him something of a liability for a manager wanting to keep a tight unit.. Its lovely to see him getting the recognition his performances have earnt him this season. Delighted for him. And I would be perplexed if anyone thought otherwise...
Tommy G Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 I couldn't give a baboon's arse about Max Gradel anymore and I don't see why there is a topic in this section of the forum about him? He was a flash dandy with flash boots who thought he was Cristiano Ronaldo at times. If he was a superstar then we wouldn't have sold him, simple as. I don't buy into the attitude ''Pearson didn't like him so he sold him'' crap. Pearson made very few mistakes when he was hear and I wouldn't even class Gradel as going a mistake. He's so overhyped it's unreal
Finnegan Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Pains me to say this, but 'what Tommy G said.'

Whether you're frustrated with the Max Gradel love-in that some Leicester fans have with him or not, we made a dirty mistake in selling him for £250k. A goal every 2.2 games from midfield at this level for £250,000 is one of the biggest bargains in the past few seasons. pearson dropped a bollock, a massive swollen one. Simple as.

Ric Flair Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Oh well... we have Gally 5 goals in 17 appearances. And that's not to be sniffed at at all, but Gradel had lots of doubters at Leicester and he's one of a few younger lads who has left us and gone on to prove his worth. So he deserves a bit of credit. Personally, I hope he get's mullered on Boxing Day by Naughton.
dannythefox Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Bags of pace, could beat a man but dreadful delivery,... shame he didn't make it with us but not a massive loss Yes I know he will score now! His delivery wasnt that bad when he whipped that ball in against us at there place last time!

That is a big overstatement. He wouldn't fit in our team now anyway, he would be bench warming like he was when he was with us! Never going to play above the champsionship level in a starting line up. Not good enough
