Tuna Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Get Brian Stock and Michael Brown in to replace him.
Dylan Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 If we're looking for promotion, we need to KEEP players like Wellens. He is OUR best player this season apart from King imo. Good buying players, but we need to keep our main players too.
richardsfoxes Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Cant see Sven letting him go, unless wellens wants to leave. If he does, get 2M, buy Brian stock.
Simmo86 Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Jesus people!! He won't leave without a suitable replacement coming in! Sven's not stupid!
Salieri Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I like Wellens but he's not exactly irreplaceable, some people need to calm down.
Bugg Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Get Brian Stock in to replace him. Just imagine the "we shouldn't have sold Fryatt" brigades reaction if that happened. Radio Leicester's listening would be even more hilarious than it is now.
okie fox Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 Not for one instant suggesting King or Bamba as playmakers, thats just silly, someone to take on the playmaker role would be a gimme. When suggesting moving Bamba into midfield I nearly said that it could only be done if we had the back 4 sorted, but it was so obvious I didn't bother... Sorry to be so obvious and silly, but what exactly is your new central-midfield omelette? Is it King, Bamba, and an unidentified playmaker to replace Wellens? How would you fix the centre of defence now that you have cracked another egg there (i.e., moved Bamba)?
Spiritwalker Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 He,s leaving next week. If he dont play saturday it wont be because he,s injured. Sorry to report this people but according to my source which id say is 95% accurate we could,ve seen the last of wellens in a city shirt! Is this the same 95% accurate source who told you he wouldn't be in the squad for Preston and would be joining Birmingham for 1.3m last Monday ?
bigneville Posted 20 January 2011 Posted 20 January 2011 I know someone who has links with Birmingham City. He has confirmed for the 2nd time in the past two weeks that BIRMINGHAM CITY HAVE NO INTEREST IN SIGNING RICHIE WELLENS. This story is either Wellens agent trying to get him a new deal, or very poor journalism. He may have been on a list of possible players a while back, but there is no interest in Richie Wellens from Birmingham City.
Darkon84 Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Just saw Richie Wellens at a Morrisons in Birmingham
Walshy5 Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Is this the same 95% accurate source who told you he wouldn't be in the squad for Preston and would be joining Birmingham for 1.3m last Monday ? Yes so there is hope

marbelladave Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Sorry to be so obvious and silly, but what exactly is your new central-midfield omelette? Is it King, Bamba, and an unidentified playmaker to replace Wellens? How would you fix the centre of defence now that you have cracked another egg there (i.e., moved Bamba)? Been busy buying eggs, however; Our back 4 is still a shambles, more work is clearly required so somthing has to be done. For Hobbs to be even remotely effective he has to play on the right, Mee and Vitor (when fit) are comfortable on the left with Berner or a new younger left back. We need a player who can sit in front of the back 4 and cover, particularly if the fullbacks are expected to get forward, on Tuesday Abe tried to play that role and failed horribly, ok it was Citeh but he was much better second half when he moved further forward, but as a holding player, no! Playing Bamba in front of (say) Naughton-Hobbs-Mee-Berner is a possible solution, Hobbs or Berner might not cut it, Mee could be gash, hence only a possibility... With a good holding player you can have two other midfielders who can play with a bit more freedom, a playmaker such as Wellens or Gallagher and a runner like Abe or King. Different balance, maybe more effective but then again.... These are just options involving just the players we currently have, if Sven brings in more players, as is promised, then the possibilities increase hugely, so I'm just floating ideas of what we need and where to play them.
