goose2010 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 intresting one! lets hope they get charlie adam!
Wymsey Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 For his age he would be better off really staying with us considering the players we got in on loan and us performing well at the moment. If he goes there, i doubt if he will play every game.
Toby or not Toby Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 If theres any truth in it, I think he will go. Dont know why, just a feeling
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Bugger! Hopefully it's nothing. They haven't got any quotes at least so there's a good chance it's just journalists stirring up gossip.
Criggers Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 You would hope he stays with us to at least the end of the season. Why jump ship to a hardly high flying brum when we still have a shout at going up ourselves? Unless he knows something we don't about any other midfielders coming in .
StanSP Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 If true, I hope he's kind enough to postpone til after next Tuesday, when the proposed Vieira-humiliation is prepared to take place. Thanks Richie .
Houdini Logic Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 ''Leicester would be reluctant to lose Wellens, but they would find it hard to keep the player if the chance of a move to the Premier League came about.'' Top class reporting there
davieG Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 With only 18months left on his contract which wont be very high at today's rates having come from Doncaster it will show whether Sven sees him as a longer term option. If Brum are serious they could offer him a decent 3/4 year contract which we'd need to match, Wellens would be entitled to think we can with all the money being thrown at the likes of Yakubu.
martyn Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 As good as Wellens has been this season and as much as I like him as a player, I would be inclined to sell if the price was right (£2.5m+). I think he would be the easiest of our midfielders to replace.

If Brum are serious they could offer him a decent 3/4 year contract which we'd need to match, Wellens would be entitled to think we can with all the money being thrown at the likes of Yakubu. But Yak is a loan who we can ditch after 6 months. Offering a strong, 3-4 year wage packet to a 30 year old probably isn't so appealing.
Stevosevic Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Probably explains why we are chasing Vieira/Johnson.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Our player of the season so far in my opinion. Would be sad to see him go. If he did leave, then we will need to find a replacement of better quality, which will cost.
Babylon Posted 12 January 2011 Author Posted 12 January 2011 Always struck me as the sort of guy who would leg it to the premier at the slightest chance. If he did fair enough, get a good fee and move on. So long as the money isn't used to fund another massive loan for someone. Otherwise we'll be on the slippery slope of selling off the family silver to pay for loans, which you are left with nothing at the end of. Morrison funds naughton, fryatt funds Yakubu... two assets gone and nothing to show for it come the summer.
Toby or not Toby Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Surely we dont have to sell, so would be pretty easy to reject the, presuming Wellens happy here!
cc_star Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Viera would be a poor replacement for Wellens - probably on more money as well We should offer him increased terms but not be made to get into a bidding war. He's under contract with us anyway and we have no need to sell to raise funds, so its only if Wellens instigates anything
davieG Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 But Yak is a loan who we can ditch after 6 months. Offering a strong, 3-4 year wage packet to a 30 year old probably isn't so appealing. I never said it was I Was viewing it from Wellens perspective. Besides if they're confident we'll get promoted they'll have to make those sort of decisions come June anyway.
RizLCFC Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 He's not someone we can't replace, but I'd hate to lose him, he's settled here and an integral part of the team I rather have him over the ageing Vieira or injury-prone Johnson!
Criggers Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I meant in the sense of getting into a bidding war with Brum. We can get rid of the high earning Yak easily if he's on loan. If we can get good money for wellens (a profit) as a 30 year old, then why not? Yes he is our player of the season probably - so far - but everyone has a price and is aiming on going 4-4-2 I'm sure Sven could get another CM in.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 He's in a purple patch at the moment for sure, but I have my doubts that if a Premier League club had been watching him for any length of time they'd be that keen, and although I wouldn't dream of writing someone off at 30, he's hardly up and coming, is he? Brum will probably slap in a massive bid now I've said that
goose2010 Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Probably explains why we are chasing Vieira/Johnson. have i missed something but since when have we been chasing vieira?
MikeyT Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Stringer: To those asking, yes I saw the 'Wellens to Birmingham' Sky Sports story. I find it highly unlikely, could help with a new contract though
