I asked you to discuss it, I like many of the points you make, you just seem incapable of taking on board the fact that other people can hold differing opinions that may be just as valid. You have said in the past that you supported players when others were questioning them, and that later when those players performances dropped (in your opinion) that you then correctly changed your view. In other words you believe that everyone is wrong until you believe that the time has come for that player to leave. That's a tad egotistical, we all have opinions, we all believe them to be correct at the time, disagree with the opinion of others and discuss them rationally, don't wade in with 'bullshit' just about every time someone questions a player that you like. Anyway it sounds as if he isn't going, I'm glad about that but I'd still like to see another midfielder join this month, if only to strengthen the squad for the big push.
jimmygee Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 As good as Wellens has been this season and as much as I like him as a player, I would be inclined to sell if the price was right (£2.5m+). I think he would be the easiest of our midfielders to replace. Wellens is irreplaceable. He is the reason Leicester got where they did last year if leaves will not be replaceable with anyone nearly as good. He has experience knows what to do and when to do it. Is an unbelievable passer of the ball and crossed of the ball setting up numerous chances and goals. He gets the defence and team out of trouble and the reason we were conceding so many goals under Sousa is because he played wellens too far forward instead of just infront of the defence. IRREPLACEABLE

Bentleys has been a lot more scathing about him than this board but everyone agrees that he has looked good recently and if he can continue in that vein then are more than happy that he stops. He can be a good player but has been regularly accused of attempting the hollywood ball.

CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 The first one was his mistake yes - doesn't everyone make mistakes? The one against Doncaster was Vitor's fault. He was outdone for pace and Vitor should have picked him up once he ran past him I could pick out plenty of occassions where Abe and King have made mistakes too. Wellens is our most consistent performer and defifnitely not lazy. The whole team is woeful at marking. Wellens is one of the worst, Naughton not far behind. Excellent player on the ball, Wellens without a shadow and he's our link between defence and attack due to this, he's a very important cog for us. Abe never passes the ball more than ten yards, King looks scared to try and take on a player.

It was widely reported yesterday that the 30-year-old schemer could be a target for Blues manager Alex McLeish. However, the Mercury understands that Wellens is not in the frame for a switch to St Andrews and City fans will breathe a huge sigh of relief. Wellens has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League after failing to break through at his first club, Manchester United, when the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs were first-team regulars. He has been in terrific form for City this season and was man-of-the-match in last weekend's FA Cup third-round tie with Manchester City.
