Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Looking at Arsenal's current youth crop, Wenger's currently set to do more for British football in the next ten years than any other manager. By not playing ANY OF THEM.
CloudFox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Hmm. Not sure if they count as second teams, but I do have soft-spots for Villa - Have a few friends who are fans, they can play some good football, and obviously they had O'Neill last season. Everton - Purely because of Tim Cahill and Tim Howard. Arsenal - Some great talent coming through, especially Wilshere. Generally impressed with their business model/team set-up and admired them from afar since I was a kid. Would love them to win something this season. Plus, Nasri is a beast. Southampton/Brighton - Family and home ties there respectively. But all in all, I'd rather the Foxes any day
filbertway Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Coalville Town, probably more of a joint first club rather than a second though . Should they ever draw Leicester in the FA Cup I would have no idea who to support. Thankfully there's more chance of us signing shay given than that happening.
MC Prussian Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 correct - english players are ridiculously overpriced, paticularly when they are usually inferior to cheaper players from abroad. Seconded. As seen with Andy Carroll, who'll have a lot to prove at Liverpool now - in particular, his £35m price tag. Clubs I have a soft spot for are Notts County, to an extent Manchester City, Sochaux in France as well as Atalanta and Triest in Italy.
Ozwin Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 You all need slapping down. 'Seconds teams,' in my day you'd be lynched for saying something like that.
Mikey Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 You all need slapping down. 'Seconds teams,' in my day you'd be lynched for saying something like that. Hence why the 'Second' is in the inverted commas as most of them aren't really a second team, just a team you like more than others.
Bert Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 You all need slapping down. 'Seconds teams,' in my day you'd be lynched for saying something like that. Good job we're not in your day then isn't it.
tartanowl Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 It's nice to see some love for The Wednesday! My two 'second' clubs are Heart of Midlothian and Leicester City. I always look out for your results now. Yesterday was the topper!
Fosse Boy Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Can't understand why people have favourite 'top flight teams'. Fair play following another English team if you've got family/lived there or whatever, but it just seems weird to me otherwise.

When I'm not watching Leicester I'm watching the Premier League, and there are teams I would prefer to see win it. Don't really see anything wrong with that. I'm not gonna go and watch them or buy a shirt or go mental when they score, I just have a preference, like I prefer certain tennis players or F1 drivers.

This is exactly right. Fosse Boy's elitist comments are to be expected, it's probably the main thing people have against the group he represents too.
Fosse Boy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 This is exactly right. All I was saying is I don't understand people having a 'second' club just so they have a top flight team to support as well as Leicester or whatever. Nothing against people preferring one team to win over another. Oh, and by the way I represent my own views, no one else's. Thanks.

Fosse Boy is a top lad and sticks to his morals and hardly elitist.

Your initial post makes out that you couldn't possibly understand why anyone would even think about having a preferance for any other team. I didn't say you were speaking for all of the Fosse Boys when you said that. I said that people get a similar impression of the Fosse Boys' in general being elitist. Doesn't mean he's not allowed his own opinion does it? Fosse Boy is a top lad and sticks to his morals and hardly elitist. I was arguing against the post not attacking him as a person. I'm not questioning his moral values. I've got no problem with him stating his opinion either but he ends up with a certain responsibility as his views rightly or wrongly are always going to reflect on the group he represents as a whole, it's in his name for a start. I'm not here to have a personal argument with anyone and definitely not attack someone I don't even know so please don't accuse me of that.

Your initial post makes out that you couldn't possibly understand why anyone would even think about having a preferance for any other team. Why should I even have to say that? I think most people can make a clear distinction between wanting a particular team to win a given match and outright declaring a club to be your 'second team'.
