Benji Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Guy was class tonight, won loads in the air, threw himself into tackles and was even organising at the back. Much better ad will teach people not to overreact after one game...maybe.
The Doctor Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 didn't see him play last night so can't really pass judgement but he's got a decent bit of pace and looked alright on various other loan spells - we are missing pace on the left, that was clear v millwall so on paper i'd prefer PVA, i'll wait 'till i've seen him play before i make my mind up though.
Rich Fox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Van Aaholt for his blistering pace which we need as we are going to have to gamble by getting forward if we want to make play offs, Bruno will have a part to play though.
StanSP Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 For home games especially, Van Aanholt needs to start at home. Him and Naughton are great at home because we are much more attacking. With those two down the wings, and Dyer especially on one of them, we have more of an attacking threat. Hopefully all the attacking pays off, and by middle point in second half, we can bring Berner on in second half.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Start the kid in 3 or 4 games then judge him
lanxfox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Hearing the reporrts from people who went, sounds like Brrrruuuuuunnnnnoooo should be playing, but anyway I would rather see Bruno playing
Adster Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 This is kind of the same situation as Ben Mee after his first game, don't be quick to judge guys, give him a few more games.
Unit Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 This is kind of the same situation as Ben Mee after his first game, don't be quick to judge guys, give him a few more games. Agreed, he reminds me a lot of Glen Johnson and Gareth Bale, possibly better to be a winger rather than a fullback. He didn't seem to do much defending yesterday but should've been awarded a penalty in the second half when he was dragged down in the box.
Bluefoxtim Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 He wasn't great, but neither was anyone else. He can only be judged against a good team performance IMO.
themotivator Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 rated highly by chelsea fans i know so no doubt i would like to see him play more.
shailen Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Ive seen him play for chelsea. He is good enough to replace ashley cole, so he is good enough for us, regardless of his performance yesterday. As much as i like bruno, he had to remain a backup here for me
Corky Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Haven't seen him play yet, after Saturday I'll be able to make a comparison.
hackneyfox Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I'll give him a few games before I make my mind up but on paper it's PVA every time.
Jakemoore Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 I love Bruno Berner he's gee!! But I think PVA's pace will damage teams so I'll wait till I see him on Saturday till I judge him. come on City!!
crisp monster Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Hard to judge the guy in a game against sheff u We need to see him play against a passing side like Norwich The championship as we know is a tough league but I'd imagine that was quite a tough debut for the lad Well chuffed with last nights result even if we wer'nt at our best
Bert Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 The quote without any post was referring to Ben Mee not Van Aanholt.
cc_star Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Too soon to tell, but he didn't cover himself in glory on his début by all accounts, and lets not forget Berner is a huge threat from corners which we miss when he's not playing. However I am in favour of playing PVA for the next two home games and take stock after that, I'm intrigued by the earlier rumours of playing Berner at LCB as well
Edmund Posted 2 February 2011 Posted 2 February 2011 Even though it was harsh that Bruno got dropped after the 4-2 win over Millwall, you don't change a defence that's just kept a clean sheet.

I said when we signed him that a back four of Naughton Bamba Hobbs* PVA is far too attack minded to play away from home, especially without a good defensive midfielder to protect them. We don't play with traditional wingers so we will always risk leaving our full backs exposed or leaving the front man isolated as our wide forwards are forced into defensive duty. As it is we got away with it against Sheff U, a club in the relegation zone that have the worst scoring record in the league. Against better sides, of which there are many, we could be seriously exposed especially away from home. I am not saying that PVA played badly nor that Bruno is better but you look across that back four and there is very little experience. Bruno can provide that, he can organise the defence and secure the left side, allowing Dyer or Vassell to attack without having to think about defensive duties. It will be intersting to see how Sven starts on Saturday, we are at home against a decent side but one we normally do well against, so lets start with PVA and see what he can do, but if we are being overrun in the defense then bring on Bruno. *I'm aware that Mee started last night.

I can't remember Bruno ever scoring from a corner. Ball brushed his head for one of Bamba's goals the other week but that is about as much of a set piece impact as I can recall him having.

Really, it no coincidence that he scores on his first game back in the team after Cunningham's injury, the game after that he flicks one on for Bamba's tap-in and at all times he's either on the end of them or taking markers away from whoever else gets on the end of them. Next time he players and we get a corner, take a look.

Problem is, many people on here think that picking their 'best' players makes the best team and forget that you need a range of skills and blend them altogether. saying that we've got 2 home games coming up which will ideal for the lad to show us what we can do when we'll almost certainly see a lot more of the ball
