Wonder who it was?

Maybe it's wasn't anyone, maybe it was just a stunt to stop other clubs and players taking us for mugs and thinking we will pay whatever they ask . Atleast it's out there now that we have a limit all be it a big limit but there is a limit :)

Owen.

Wowsers!! although to be quite honest, unless he would have come on a "pay per play" basis, I'd have been sceptical.

Not because I don't think he could do a job, but I don't quite see where he fits into out current system? he is a deadly box striker (or at least he was in his pomp) but not the kind of player anymore who runs at defenders and beats his man.

We don't seem to score "scrappy" 6 yard goals anymore!! (and please don't tell me yakubu scored a goal from 6 yards at the weekend.....that goal was anything but scrappy!!)

For me, for the money he would cost. I don't see the value he would add.......would have sent shockwaves through the league though!!!

Glad he was asking for too much if it was Owen. He's done us a favour. People have had this discussion in the past and are shocked that other people wouldn't want Owen but why would we want a injury prone, has been. I still ask the question why Man Utd signed him.

People say he'd score for fun in this league, he would if he played, stayed fit and kept injury free but in the Championship a much more physical league he wouldn't last 5 minutes.

If he can get clubs to pay him the wages then I can't fault him, fair play to the lad, I'd do the same but really he should have retired a couple of years ago.

Whose to say we wouldn't have switched to 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 to accommodate him? I for one would be surprised if we didn't see 3-5-2 tried at least once before the end of the season.

I heard Berner rejected the chance to go to Huddersfield on loan, (Walshie told me against Barnsley their manager rung him up.......) so maybe Wayne Bridge?:dunno:

People who are saying that no one knows what the Yaks wages are, are talking bollocks. Agents, managers & other people in the game know & they all have a reporter or journo mate so the figures being bandied around have a truth in them. It just which source has the right ones.

Of the names mentioned here we know Beckham wouldn't step down, Henry didn't want to play for anyone, Emile was doing great business for AV & they let Carew go anyway.

Could be Owen, but he plays a part for ManU who are going after league, FA cup & CL, so it's unlikely Fergie would let him go after loaning Macheda(?) out.

My money is on Robbie Keane - he'd be on a fortune & he'd turn out for anyone whatever the division if they paid him

If it is Owen and as Bert has suggested it is then my only question is, this doesn't make any sense unless Sven has been mis-quoted. This is a recent enquiry, since the transfer window has shut and therefore he could only have come on loan. If that's the case then Manchester United are contractually bound to still pay him all of his wages and it would be down to us to negotiate with them as to how much we pay, we wouldn't be negotiating with the player on that matter. But the article suggests that we agreed it with the club and then Sven pulled the plug when speaking to the player and realising how much he was on/wanted. That seems odd. Sven know's Owen will be on the best part of £100,000 a week.

This doesn't make much sense, unless this was a transfer deal in the pipeline last month and it was a permanent deal but The Mercury suggests otherwise with the 'one more in' statement after Bruma.

Of course SOMEBODY knows, but none of us do (except the person who has posted just below you, who might have an inkling).

The fact the figures swing wildly show that you can't believe any of it, so to use those figures in any debate is pointless. You yourself just admitted that most of them make it up by saying one source could be right... well they all can't, so obviously there is a lot of shit talked out there.

The press and pundits always go with the highest figure they have heard or read in the press, it's more exciting, more of a story etc. Like Robbie Savage saying Yakubu is on £85,000 a week and then back tracking when challenged about his figures.

I was thinking something similar especially as we have 5 domestic loans already and you can't have more than 5 in the matchday squad, the international loan window is also shut, so I can only think that it was a free agent, I believe we can still sign free agents, hence him trying to negotiate better personal terms than Sven thought he was worth, but I would have no idea who. Or it's an old news story on a slow news week. I also liked the idea that it was released to stop people thinking we are made of money and will pay anything people ask.

Thought he had gone to play in the States ?

Newport county.

Akinpanicbuyi really should have retired by now though.

(also why does google chrome spell-checker suggest speaking-tube as a correct spelling for akinpanicbuyi?)
