Captain... Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 ...got in common? they amongst others, Dyer, King, Oakley, Howard, and some notable loanees were responsible for restoring pride to this club. They fought for this club our club to bring the club from it's lowest point in its entire history to return some pride to the club that had for the previous 4 seasons really turned me away from football. Add to that Wellens, Weale, Waghorn and Gallagher and you have the team that restored respectability to this club, if we hadn't escaped from League one at the first attempt, if we hadn't reached the playoffs last year, we wouldn't be where we are now, we wouldn't have rich Thai owners and Sven, we wouldn't have a team capable of competing with the best in this league. So for those that don't get it, that is why we love these players, that is why we support these players and that is why we get pissed off when these players are replaced unnecessarily. Sven came in took one look around and set about dismantling that team, understandably in some respects, we were playing poorly and had overachieved the season before, our limitations had been exposed by Sousa trying to get these players to pay in a way they couldn't. Short of confidence and fitness they were easy targets. Nobody believes these players were the best in the world, and nobody believed that we couldn't find better, but the way Sven systematically took apart that team was brutal. I'm fully aware the Max was sold by Pearson but the feeling is the same, we loved him, he was shipped out by the manager, did anyone else notice that he didn't celebrate when he scored against us even though some people were booing him during the match. What pisses me off is the way that a number of fans on here have dismissed these players, have conveniently forgotten what these players did for us, Sven doesn't remember, because he wasn't here, but we were. So when I see other fans taking the piss out of someone who is trying to defend Jack Hobbs, or Berner it saddens me, they got this club back on it's feet and will always get my full backing and support, the way they have been dropped and excluded at every possible opportunity is sad, whilst we have had Cunningham or PVA, Berner has played 0 minutes of football, likewise Hobbs whenever we had any 2 other fit centrebacks. Then there was the Fryatt incident, top scorer last season, worth about 4 million last season. We sell him for 1.5 and all the fans can do is pick on his negatives, top scorer for last 2 seasons, still a good championship striker, just look at his record for Hull not given a chance under Sven. This is what still gets me, if you become the manager of a squad you should be looking at how to get the best out of last season's top scorer and best player, not get rid of them. Finally dropping Weale because he was playing well, my views on this nonsense are elsewhere. Yes Sven has his favourites, yes so do the fans , sometimes they are not the same players, that is normal, it happened with NP and Max and countless others before. The team that Sven took apart wasn't just any old Leicester team, it was the best one we had had since MON and it hurt to see it ripped apart, I can see the benefits that Sven has brought in, better quality throughout the pitch, and a much prettier passing style, arguably he has done it at the cost of team spirit. That is not the point though, the point is that as fans we should not be ridiculed for still liking these players, for being grateful for what they did and for questioning why they are no longer wearing the royal blue of Leicester, when they performed so heroically in it before.
lcfc81 Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 A nice sentiment, I will also remember these players fondly.
deep blue Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 Shrapnel, a great post and much overdue. Well argued, in contrast to the petty, pathetic dissenting replies above.
Corky Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 This reminds me of a Birch pre-match crowd rousing speech.
nickelbyfox Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 Nice post, agree in some ways, but people on this forum seem to get genuinely offended by opinions of others! Granted sometimes people are purposely obtuse or wind people up, but your favourites and views maybe not the same as others... Fact
The Doctor Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 Shrapnel, a great post and much overdue. Well argued, in contrast to the petty, pathetic dissenting replies above. you do realise Hackney was taking this piss in that "sven should be sacked" thread? The petty, pathetic dissenting replies you mention are people who are fed up of people falling for it hook, line and sinker.
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 The best since Martin O'Neill? Oh that explains how we just about finished fifth. We've never been higher than that since O'Neill left. ... wait a minute....
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 I have to agree with most of that, but there is little place in business for sentiment. And LCFC are in business for success and that comes at a price. That price has been the ousting of certain 'fans favourites' and like you, I get annoyed at people who can't understand 'our' sadness at seeing these players get pushed out by loanees. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating and we are doing very well with Sven & long may that continue, regardless of who pulls on the shirt.
MrSpaM Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 You do realise HackneyFox's post was some sort of bad attempt at trolling dont you? Hate to ruin everyones game, but it's a bit stupid that an attempt at a wind up has caused somebody to waste a crazy amount of time typing that essay out.
The Doctor Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 The best since Martin O'Neill? Oh that explains how we just about finished fifth. We've never been higher than that since O'Neill left. ... wait a minute.... Taggs and Muzzy.
artursteppe Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 Aaaah, Captain Shrapnel, I quite understand that some people can get quite emotional and sentimental about things. Usually this sort of thing is prevalent with pet owners. Now I do understand that those sort of feelings are important to some folks and maybe we all need to show those sorts of emotions from time to time, however with the best will in the world they are better bestowed on pets than professional footballers. Now if you were getting all wishy washy over someone the equivalent of Steve Walsh or Peter Shilton or Graham Cross or Alan Birchenal, or Muzzy Izett who were all stalwarts of the club for very many years, I could more readily understand your banter ( a bit like if you had a pet pekinese whose age was in double figures ). However the players you are getting so agitated about have only been, or were, with us for only a little longer than five minutes. Let me explain, unless you know differently of course:- players want to be in the best place for them, in whatever form that takes, and the reasons can vary. Very rarely do they demonstrate true allegiance to any club or it's supporters unless there has been a passage of some considerable time, which is exactly the way I feel about them.
JmorsonLCFC Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 I think it's a great post. Agree with the part about Fryatt, Gradel and Berner. But I do believe the team spirit is still there... and our promotion team in 2002/03 was a brilliant team.

Completely agree I have very little sentimental attachment to any of those players mentioned, they a did a job getting us out of League 1, but a club our size and the squad we had it wasn't really suprising. They certainly ain't no, Matty Elliot, Taggs, Keller, Lennon, Sav, Muzz, Bruno, Guppy, who brough Athletico Madrid to Filbert Street. This club is going through the most important transformation since MON days and this sentimental BS is lame. We still have Kingy Leicester born and bread, Wellens, Gally, and involvement all be it not every week from Dyer and Waggy. Apologies for the cheesy quote but "Change is the essence of life.Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become”
shen Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 I can't quite figure out whether the post by Shrapnel is funny or outright pathetic. I'm willing to believe that it's a consequence of teenage over-sensitivity.
sdb Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 This has been the lowest day in FoxesTalk history. And i'm not just talking about this thread. Spring's coming, get outside people. And post when necessary.
MrSpaM Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 It took you an age to realise though didn't it? What part of me posting "Who's this Abe Yakubu? is he in the reserves or something? " makes you think i thought you were being serious? You really are a cock arnt you I think it's more of a case of it took 7 pages of your meaningless drivel for you to realise how much of a complete tosser you were/still are being.
Guest bennytwohats Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 If these things genuinely bother you i'm surprised you're in to football tbh - not having a dig, but isn't this what modern football is about? Sven is here to get us promoted, not get all sentimental. Also if the shoe was on the other foot and a premiership team came knocking for these players, offering more money - how many do you think wouldn't go without giving it a second thought? Ultimately Sven is gonna play the team he thinks will do best - and rightly so. I will get behind those 11 players on the field. Also, you're having a laugh if you don't think the team spirit is there.
Fox You Forest Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 This place is giving me a headache today. Just today?
