Van Aanholt Overrated?

His crossing was way is pacey (when his crosses actually are going in the box) yesterday and most of his crosses were mostly going over for a goal kick. His shooting is as worse as his crossing at times and i thought yesterday's performance was his worst since signing on loan. Bruno for certainly next week please Sven.

He put two balls in which both should have been converted, Gally's first half and Lloyd in the last few mins.

He had a poor game yesterday, Coventry clearly identified him as the weak link and stuck the big striker next to him.

His crossing was wayward and his shooting ordinary.

I almost blew my top when he had that shot from 40 yards in the 88th minute.

In thought he started well and looked lively, some nice passing and movement, but as we became more and more desperate for a second goal to win the match, it was reflected in his play. It's to be expected in a younger player - keeping a cool head with less ability would probably have served us better.

In fact I felt his game was a reverse of Bruma. Bruma had a terrible start - out of position frequently, standing off players and letting them past him, missing passes - but as the game wore on he grew more confident and was one of the better players on the pitch at the end of the game.

I'd give Berner a game or two now. We can't have the loanees playing shite and still getting a first team place week in week out. PVA needs to raise his game and fight for his place like everyone else. Sitting on the bench for a game might just spur him on a bit.

EDIT: Sven won't though.

i was suprised when SGE signed him, he reminds me of Glen Johnson [when everyone started going on about him a few years ago and saying hes not good enough]

i think given the games he might [and i say "might" ] just become a good little attacking Fullback / Wingback. depending on the price and wage demands id be happy if he became a LFC player perminantly

We dont want burner in for QPR because he'll have routledge to deal with and hes no chance of keeping up with him he'll be blowing out his arse after 60mins. My friend who has a season ticket at chelsea says PVA is quality and hes close to being in the first team squad so i'am guessing hes one of those players that plays better with better players around him. I think if we stick with him he'll come good.

It certainly doesn't look like he'll 'cut it' as a defensive player - in fact, he seems very 'dodgy'. The problem is, I can't see Sven dropping him. I think one option would be, to try him as a left sided midfield player / winger - in place of Dyer / Gallagher (who could move to the right - or upfront). Bring in Mee as left back (or Bruno - but I worry about his lack of pace).

Defensively, he's positionally unaware, incredibly lightweight, culpable to losing his man and not great in the challenge. Offensively, he could skin a man every time with his pace, has a few tricks and at times has a decent delivery. Sort out his decision making and a better final ball and you've got yourself a good winger. But as of yet, a left back? No.

1) We have subs nowadays.

2) He must have played about 2 league games in his life for them. If that.

3) He's shown very little of this natural talent so far, especially defensively.

I'm by no means writing him off, I think he's handy. This is just a ridiculous post.

No he isn't but some players in the squad are, such as Dyer.

However, I don't feel he is as good as Cunningham.

Van Aanholt is very good at going forward. That low cross which Dyer missed in the last few minutes was sensational.

I have to say it makes me laugh when we sign a new player from a team in the premiership. Most fans seem to think he'll be great purely because hes from a team in the prem. People on here were getting excited about bruma playing for instance. Hes nothing special. I mean whats up with ben mee?

Same for van aanholt. People thought cunningham was brilliant whereas I thought it was a blessing in disguise that he got injured (without trying to sound cruel, cos noone wants to see a player break their leg)

im sorry but berner is by far and away the best left back we have. And hes been treated like shite by sven IMO. After saturday you cant even claim pva is better at going forward. Thats besides the point tho as left back is a defensive position so you want someone who can defend. Ie berner.

Same for ricardo,he played for portugal years ago. Nothing else.

All I ask is next time we sign someone, can we at least wait til we see them play before making statements like 'hes a great addition to the squad.'

Im never excited by a new signing til theyve played say 4 good games in a row for us

Not sure if this is a wind-up, but anyway.

To say that Berner is better than both Cunningham and PVA is just wrong. Sure Bruno's better in the air and maybe in the tackle but to defend the flanks you have to actually be able to keep up with wingers and lets face it Bruno isn't the most mobile. Plus he's no where near as good as either of them going forward. I think Berner is a proper old fashioned Full Back where as PVA is an all out Wing Back. Cunningham was somewhere in between I thought.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and not judge players until they have had at least 4 games in a row. Van has probably had 4 maybe 5 and Bruma 2... yet it's perfectly acceptable to write them off as crap.

only passing on what my friend said i've spoke to a few chelsea fans and they've said hes quality. You must no more than them!

A lot of people were unconvinced by Naughton and he is now starting to look like a class act (I think all but the the most negative would agree with that).

I think we need to give these young, talented players a bit more time. I have no doubt PVA will prove to be a quality player along with Bruma. It seems as though some people are determined not to rate young and promising players. I think our results overall, since Sven has been using the loanees, speak for themselves...

I understand exactly what you're saying, and obviously the players need games to actually prove they're any good. But is at the business end of the season the right time to be experimenting?? No!

I'll never get excited by anyone we sign til ive seen them play a few times. I think its important to remember where some of our best players have come from. King-academy, wellens-donny, weale dyer waghorn gally berner etc.

My point is they dont have to be coming from a top top club in order for them to make the most impact on us

I don't think its experimenting playing PVA rather than Berner, I just think its playing the better player. I just think we should accept that whilst these players are not world class, they tend to be better than what we have. I know what you are saying about not getting excited about players until they have played - I am very guilty of getting excited about signings and being disappointed, I thought Bednar was going to be the answer for us as an agile big man up top and he was woeful!

In all honesty I support the shirt more than the players so if they give it there all and they are capable enough I tend to be happy with them. Having said that, I do always have a personal preference for younger more attacking players such as Naughton and PVA, that is because I prefer to watch attacking football.

I feel very sorry for the poor kid,and that's all he is,he's 19.What chance does he have ? He arrives here, labelled as,'The new Ashley Cole'.No pressure then is there !? He has talent,is learning.Give him a chance.

This whole 'defenders must be quick' malarky irritates me. If I think about the best defenders I ever saw like Walsh, Taggart, Elliot, they were all slow but such great players.

Yeah but we're talking about full backs, not centre halfs.

Gary Neville wasn't slow, but I really think it is a major asset for a full back to be quick in he modern game. I'd much rather a quick left back this Saturday to face QPR and Routledge.
