Some people on here are saying Sven 'has lost the plot', or suggesting he's a 'court jester'...seriously get a grip. He's worked wonders since he came here...the playoffs was always a long shot, and we still have a chance, albeit a small chance or making it. It literally is the best definition of fickle you'll find...pathetic. <_<

looking for opinions in an adult discussion. I do not stoop to call your opinions pathetic, neither do I apologise for raising some important questions..

people are entitled to there opinion as much as you are, and if you read the thread the op didnt even say he was a court jester..

i like sven and have always backed him but just because he got us from the bottom dont make him untouchable (not the word i was thinking off but cant think of it atm)

some of his decisions are strange and as a manager he has to take some of the blame in poor results, cant have it both ways, all praise but no criticism

Are you referring to dropping Vitor for Bruma? On the face of it is a bit odd, but it could have been done for a number of reasons...injury, an agreement with Chelsea that Bruma would play x amount of games etc etc.

If we don't make it this season, have faith! I'm sure we'll be a good bet next season!

Sven has been sussed out during the past three home games.

And his decision this week to put 2 lower-league journeymen on long-term contracts shows that whatever strategy he has to take our club forward is seriously flawed.

He didn't say that to be fair, he just wanted opinions if you actually read the post.

hes already said that bruma is cheaper the more games he plays, but i dont think its that, he just seems to like his own players..

wasnt the first time hes chopped and changes things and everyone hasnt been down to injury..

people keep saying have faith, next season, give him chance to get his own players etc etc but when we cant capitalise on things now due to some of his decisions what makes next season so guaranteed??

why has the sub been vassel for dyer persistantley. When it should be for the yak, especially the last two home games. we are too rigid and hence predictable.

Best look to next season now. I hope I am wrong!!

One of those lower league journeymen has never dropped below championship level...

people are entitled to their opinions, but it is painfully boring wading through the rantings of disgruntled reactionary fans who cant wait to make scapegoats out of the usual suspects.

this is why i haven't been posting/reading much at all recently. there is inevitably a consistent presence of calm reasoning and sense being talked, but for the most part its dire, dull and almost as frustrating as us letting a chance at promotion slip from our fingers.

He isn't losing the plot.

For me, it's more worrying that he doesn't have an alternative approach when the initial tactical setup doesn't go to plan.

As it stands, it's a case of damage limitation in the final set of league games.

Okay lets settle this...sven has made some excellent decisions ( naughton, mee, cunningham) all look excellent, and some not so good decisions (bednar and the yak do stick out)

But overall under sven we have improved greatly and if it wasnt for the poor form under sousa, we would be in the play offs. Thats not to say sven has been amazing, he has also made mistakes, but generally his signings, tactics...etc have been good. Our main problem is our clinicallity, we cant finish, and that has cost us the points this season, coupled with sunday school defending at times.

Not sure that col was just asking for opinions, he seems to have made his mind up, most posts seem to be fairly biased.

That's fair enough we all have opinions but when Hobbs gets a mention I generally jump to conclusions about the poster., Morrison just confirms all.

To me, the problem is with the loan players (well some of them) and the fact that SGE cannot work with his own permanent players. Plus, he hasn't really had the opportunity to go in and purchase his own apart from Bamba. SGE is a god-send here and what do people want, fookin Iain Dowie. Any other club in the Championship would give anything for a manager as good as Sven.

The man can be only truly judged next season when he has a full pre season to prepare.

I think the fact that he 'over-achieved' so much early on meant that expectations rocketed. As others have said, when he took over and we were bottom of the league even the thought of making the Play Offs seemed pie in the sky. The fact is, despite our recent wobble, he has done a sterling job thus far. Granted some of his decisions have been questionable but show me a manager who doesn't make unexpected changes and indeed make mistakes.

I've got no problem with people being disappointed with how things have gone recently and indeed wondering about the logic in some of his decisions but anyone questioning the guy's ability is deluded. He's not spent the bulk of his managerial career at the top level and achieved so much by being a bad manager, he needs time and i'm sure the Thai owners will afford him that.

If he fails next season (i.e at least not making the Play Offs) then fine, he will deserve the criticism, but at this juncture let's appreciate what he has achieved so far and get behind him.

Super post... I think this one sums it all up for me.

Agreed.

I think the idea that Sven has no plan B is probably down to the fact that he has a first eleven and no bench.

With England he didn't even have that.

I can't see that he could be as successful as he has been by only playing one way and not being able to change when it's forced on you.

Posted

I could be wrong but I thought when Sven brought Abe off we changed from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2. Towards the end we went more direct playing more long balls. That's plan B and C.

It is, and he's learning all the time at this level.

If he's still here next season I'm confident he'll deliver, this season is a learning curve for him.

It's fine saying judge him next season but I can't help feeling that expensive signings like the yak, naughton and bruma loans were an expensive gamble to get us up this year. Otherwise Sven would've looked for more long term signings?

I think naughton's great but he's unlikely to be here next year assuming we are in the championship still.

He couldn't possibly get any long term signings because in reality he had only the one month of the january transfer window to operate with. Therefore he had been forced to bring in loanees as he isn't allowed to bring anyone else in.

Give him the summer transfer window, a full pre season and some money and this league will be ours next season.
