21st Century Fox Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 This has been discussed to death no doubt, but this was an extract from The Guardian today after Allen's appointment at Barnet. Then there was Leicester, where he forced players to clean the toilets – "if they are not prepared to do these jobs, I don't really like them" – and rewarded those who excelled at training with Mars bars. "You might say, 'well crikey, how would that motivate professional footballers that earn good money and have played in front of big crowds?' But when I showed them the Mars bars this morning they were like little kids – they were jumping for joy!" he said. "Then out of the orange plastic bag I pulled out the Man of the Tournament award, which was, for £3.99, a summer barbeque utensils set ... they loved it, thank god, they loved it." Not everybody loved it, though: after three months and three league games, his stay was prematurely curtailed because of "differences between both parties regarding the direction of the club". It certainly puts having Sven as our manager into perspective.

Raj Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 What did he do in football after City??? Think we all know he was a joke.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 ..and old Penthouse mags. They're special Kinder Eggs with miniature mucky pamphlets in them
StanSP Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 Sven lets the players have a go on the ladies after he's done with them.
Libertine Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 I'd love to know the whole story around Allen. Meant to be a right nobber.
muzzy1981 Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 What did he do in football after City??? Think we all know he was a joke. Went to Cheltenham and Racially abused a bouncer outside a nightclub. Really nice bloke...
MikeyT Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 The man sounds like a complete plank. I think I'd actually gladly have Peter Taylor over him.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 Before becoming new Barnet manager he was doing some very commendable work with Pro-FC, taking players to trial days and getting them training with first team squads. There's a good video on Youtube of him taking some kids to us and them playing against the Hoddle Academy with our Youth Team, I know at least one was invited back for a trial with us. As much as he gets a reputation for being a dick, he's an old school manager who tries to instill control over his players and is actually a relatively nice guy.

Ogh what a humanitarian, he is racist bully end of, he's a disgrace to the sport!
Bettsj2 Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 He used to call Odihambo, Odisambo. The bloke is a piece of shit.
Corky Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 We actually had three decent league performances under him, should've gathered more than four points.
Matt Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 The man sounds like a complete plank. I think I'd actually gladly have Peter Taylor over him. That's not even funny, it's actually quite an offensive statement.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 Ogh what a humanitarian, he is racist bully end of, he's a disgrace to the sport! He was never proven to have racial abused someone from what I've read. He also instills in footballers an idea that they aren't layabout celebrities. Cleaning toilets is hardly anything to some of the things I used to have to do at Rugby training. He's a disciplinarian, how many jumped up prima-donas stayed around while he was in charge? None with us, we had a team who played for each other and despite not playing the best football, we were entertaining and got results.

I enjoyed the Watford at home match where Allen came out to the middle of the pitch waving, I loved him, then we won 4-1 I think. I'm sure De Vries could of had a hatrick that day.
Wymsey Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 Met him after the Accrington game. What a cocky idiot he is.

The Doctor Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 One of my favourite games, that. Can't remember who scored but 4-1 was a deserved score as we played pretty well that day. Hume, Campbell. Sheehan, De Vries. I liked him - he was sort of like holloway in that he was a character, but a dodgy transfer policy aside, he got the players working as a team. And any manager that can get De Vries firing is a genius.
skinnydipper Posted 24 March 2011 Posted 24 March 2011 Allen was as mad as a box as frogs but giving the fan a player matchday experience when he had the pre-match meal with the players, warmed up, sat on the bench and then came on for the last few minutes of the pre-season friendly at The Walkers (Birmingham I think) was pure class.
