Corky Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 Pearson's success in a relatively short amount of time has clearly pulled the wool over some people's eyes. He had two full seasons to work with and on a team that was his own, unlike Sven. Pearson also had the fortune of managing us in League One, which is slightly less demanding and lacking in quality compared to the Championship. But the club was on a downward spiral, and had been for some time. It was no easy job taking over when we'd been through however many managers the previous year. It wasn't less demanding, we just made it look that way.
Brown Fox Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 Your 1st point, see my comment just above about league one and Pearson's relative success. Secondly, who cares what experience the players have, or who they've played for, if they can't make a team. a team of individuals isn't a team, and certainly not a great one. One of Sven's problems is he thinks the best players make the best team, he did that for England (where only McClaren & Capello's ineptitude makes Sven look good) & he's doing the same now for us I don't think anyone hates, Sven - I certainly don't, but more & more people are bewildered by the blind love-in he gets from some sections of people, when he clearly has more than a few, damn obvious flaws. Read MarbellaDaves recent post. It counters all that favouritism bull etc. And shows that you can't make a team with no pre season. Have you just disregarded what has been said by so many people on this forum? Genuinelly? How can he build a team in 7 months with no summer transfer window?
djedmundo Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 considering the players had to get back to full fitness after sousa left and have worked hard to learn a new way of playing under sven aswell as getting us close to the playoffs i dont think we can blame anyone! i bet the players are fooked! instead we should be praising them.... Sven - for coming to a club at the bottom of the championship (when premier league clubs couldve had him) and transforming the team both physically and mentally! Players - for working hard on getting the team out of the s**t we were heading towards and getting us into playoff contention Loanees - for coming to the club to trying their best!! im looking forward to next season as i always do because i support this club and everyone who is involved with it!! (except kevin barclay but thats another matter)
Kitchandro Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 so i guess almost every other manager england have ever had is inept then since sven is the second best manager england have ever had, only behind ramsey - and i have my doubts ramsey would be top if it weren't for a russian linesman and his atrocious eye-sight. Again, not saying Sven did a terrible/is doing a terrible job. But, this is not a great argument. The 2nd best manager England ever had got us to...a quarter-final. With much better individuals than a lot of previous England managers. England fans are split pretty much 50/50 on Sven's reign, I think that's understandable.

In 2002, Trevor Sinclair, Danny Mills and Nicky Butt played every match i believe. 2004 and 2006 we lost on penalties, both times after losing Rooney to injury when he had been the player of the tournament, and secondly to his poor conduct. I meet very few England fans who don't rate his job as England manager, likewise with Man City fans.
Corky Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 The only manager to do better than Sven for England in the last 20 years is Terry Venables.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 The only manager to do better than Sven for England in the last 20 years is Terry Venables. Not really. In my opinion Venables had a better team of players at his disposal in Euro 96 than Sven ever did, and he didn't even have to qualify for that tournament given that it was on home soil. Both did brilliant jobs, but personally I'd class Sven as having 'done better,' despite never reaching a semi-final.

Ronaldinho got sent off, and we just didnt improve. Sven has shown many tactical eroors throughout his England reighn, that was one. He didnt know how to get the team going, really have a go at Brazil. He didnt even practice penalties. And given England's record at penalties, not to practice before a knock out tournament is very foolish. Bad judgement on his part. Many pundits and ex England players say Sven should have done better. Brian Clough is one. In his book he goes on and on about how Sven should have done so much better, and I agree with him. He made England into a bit of a circus. Why any manager would sub the whole team at half time in a friendly is just bizarre. He deserved all the criticism he got for that. There was just no justification for that at all, just like amy other of his decisions. Why take just 4 strikers to the 06 World Cup? No answer to that at all. You go on about Trevor Sinclair, etc. Sven picked them, they didnt have to play. There were better players than those about at that time. Hargreaves is another example of how Sven had and still has his favourite players. Hargreaves was being played, despite the fact he was shite, at least before the 06 world cup anyway. In fairness to him he was the best player in 06. Sven also had a few bad results with England, which really were poor. A loss to Australia at home. A loss to a very poor N.Ireland team. A draw at home to Macedonia.

shade Posted 19 April 2011 Posted 19 April 2011 know what, I like Sven, not in the bumboy camp or the hate camp, but he's ok by me, I do however have this nagging feeling that even with a preseason and his own team, we will still crush a good team one week then play turdy and lose to a poor team the next. I don't know why, but I do.

A draw at home to Macedonia. Why have a 22 man squad for a friendly fixture and only use 11 of them? Surely the purpose of a friendly is to have a look at the squad, see what works and what doesn't in a game situation with minimal negative consequences if it doesn't come off? Sven did that with England and the result was an excellent qualification record and a tournament record which in hindsight doesn't look bad at all with the resources available to him. As for bad results under Sven, the same time period saw Holland fail to qualify for the World Cup altogether in 2002, Portugal draw with Liechtenstein, Italy lose to Slovenia and Wales and Germany also losing to Wales. One off bad results do not make a bad side any more than our 5-1 win in Germany and victories over Argentina in 2002 and 2005 made us world beaters, especially considering the Italians lost to Slovenia in the qualifiers for the World Cup they went on to win. Looking back, Sven has been by any measure the best England manager certainly since Bobby Robson and most probably since Alf Ramsey. The failures of McClaren and Capello, both of whom have shown themselves to be very capable coaches elsewhere in their careers, shows just what a good job Sven did in the England job.
Guest ttfn Posted 20 April 2011 Posted 20 April 2011 Hargreaves was never shite. He played in a Champions League winning team in 2001
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 April 2011 Posted 20 April 2011 Hargreaves was never shite. He played in a Champions League winning team in 2001 Agreed. I'd have fancied us to win something had we used Hargreaves more often, especially looking at the alternatives we've always had for more defensively minded midfielders, Barry and the like.

I expect some girlfriend chatting next.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 20 April 2011 Posted 20 April 2011 To everyone moaning about Sven... We are a mid table Championship club, we aren't getting any better than him.
accessory Posted 30 April 2012 Posted 30 April 2012 I am drunk and can't be arsed to trawl through all the negative shit posted by the ****ing morons that seem to post on here these days so I want to start a thread to say thanks to Sven and his team for putting some pride back into Leicester after the shocking start we had this season. A few would suggest he has not done well enough (some even suggesting there are better alternatives than him in the championship -Idiots). When he came we were on our knees and to get so close to achieving a play off spot with the shit he had to work with is in my opinion a fantastic effort. I can not wait for next season with Sven in charge as I believe we will storm this league with him in charge and a full pre season to get players in. I think we are in for good times and his record speaks for itself. We lost badly today fair enough but at least we went down trying to attack after losing 2 shit goals. I for one think the future is as bright as it has been for years.
Petchy Posted 30 April 2012 Posted 30 April 2012 Was it worth the year long bump to post such a shit 'funny' pic?
accessory Posted 30 April 2012 Posted 30 April 2012 I saw it among the 10 most popular posts. Its status suggests there are a lot of folk on here who clearly know jack. The blind faith also serves as a cautionary tale to those who idolise the present manager.

If you're really THAT smart and knew it all beforehand, why not going the wise way by not trying to show off all the time (aka my shlong is longer than yours)? Oh, and say hello to jack.

Guest Col city fan Posted 30 April 2012 Posted 30 April 2012 Thank you Sven!?? Ive heard it all now..... What? Thank you for lumbering us with players we will find it difficult to offload? Thank you for taking a sizeable pay off from the club? Thank you for bringing in Fat Johnno and Balls? Thank you for paying a big transfer fee for Beckford who went on to have an utterly dire first half of the season? Thank you for losing 3-0 to Millwall at home? Thank you for signing Mills for big money and making him the skipper? And finally... Thank you for spending over ten million quid on a squad that have looked hardly better than we had before? Yep... Cheers... The forum becomes ever more funny!
