The Massive News is...

It's not massive news no, but it is fairly good news, jesus!....I for one will go the game if for nothing else to see our new players (whoever they may be) against potentialy the European champions!...but then again some fans like to moan about absolutely anything nowadays

How is it a thank you to the fans? You'll have to pay to watch it , not my idea of a thank you.

So on your next birthday if people get you a present and ask you to pay for it you'll be fairly pleaseddunno.gif

What was everyone expecting as 'massive' well obviously not this, to me it's just news. Massive is to something that would fundamentally change LCFC or it's prospects for success.

A fairly digressive analogy, I must say.

I agree with what people are saying re Stringer's build up, but that's his job, and he revels in it - I thought we'd have all learnt by now to not get our hopes up when it comes to these massive news developments...

I'm a massive football fan so I absolutely relish the prospect of watching the best squad in Europe play on my doorstep : )

I guess the people that moan would prefer the 'glamour' ties of Birmingham and Sunderland in the past?

An yes, they were actually called 'glamour' ties by the OS. :frusty:

Beat you both, 2 days before I go to South Africa :D

Nasty pasty :(

I hope someone goes somewhere 2 hours before kick off

Pretty sure we have a right to moan a little bit when it was bigged up as much as it was and claimed to be MASSIVE.

P.s, they won't win the Champs League, Barca will :scarf:

People, are pissed off because Stringer hyped up a minor announcement, so am I.

Some are pissed off because there is going to be 32k at the ground for this game, i would rather that than 10k against Birmingham, a team we play our fair share of games against in a league fixture.

So if people are not annoyed about Stringers hype or the fact it will be a full stadium unlike against Watford yesterday, than yes, i have missed the point.

Usually middish August. Like 10th-15th

I'm sorry but people having ago at Stringer for doing his job, He's trying to get more listeners for bbc radio leicester, so he's going to say it's massive news! god some people

Posted

Great tie would have obviously preffered the fixture reversed or elsewhere in Europe for a few days away but can't have it all.

Don't mean to be sexist when I say this, but just looked at some of the replies that Stringer got on twitter to the MASSIVE :frusty: news he posted, and funny how the only people that think it is really good news and are happy are women!! Just so they can go and smash one out over Ronaldo I dare say!!!

WOAH WOAH WOAH THERE!!!!!!!!!!!

Ronaldo is NOT FIT!! In fact he makes my skin crawl!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha why are people getting so heated about Stringer when we all know he wants to drum up listeners and how's that any different to companies doing the same with the bullshit of their adverts on television every night?

We're all part of the circus but why so much antagonism? The Leicester Mercury sells 120,000 papers a night fewer than when I was a traineee there and daily sales were 180,000 according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation so I'm quite sure Radio Leicester needs every listener it can get.

Sure Stringer can be a bit up his own arse but I'll defend his input anytime against the constantly inaccurate diatribe of the guy who moved to Dubai.

I know Stringer's biased and he knows he's biased but at least he's a Leicester fan and at least he shows some enthusiasm in what is not nearly as easy a job as some might imagine.

Pretty well all broadcasters grate raw in the end because their approach becomes over familiar. But would the rest of us do better? I'd doubt it and include myself in that, for sure.

As for the friendly, if Real Madrid bring a half-decent team I'll look forward to it. More so because I believe Sven will ensure we play our part in what will be a worthwhile and memorable day instead of the bore draw we played out against the last Spaniards who came here for a friendly and which was the last kind of advert we ever needed for season ticket sales .

I say well done to Sven and our owners for getting us the sort of friendly we've been crying out for at The Walkers - a friendly that writes our name up in lights for a moment and shows we've got some ambition and determination to move among the best.

Five pounds, £10? What's that, a couple of gallons of fuel? I'd fork that out anytime if the game's played in the right spirit and with the right players - and happily pass a few souvenirs to my friends as a bonus.

Massive? It's in the eyes or mind of the beholder really and dependent on what you've been used to. And we've been used to some turgid crap over the years. Nobody is forced to go but me, if possible, I shall just hope for a sunny day and to thoroughly enjoy the afternoon out with my lad if he can get.

I'd say it was pretty damn big news, the only bigger news could have come in the form of big arrival/departure in the summer or a big issue with the ground

Big news can still be big news even if its not big to you personally

It's Real Madrid ffs... at the Walkers. Yes, really!

And maybe our next manager  (after Sven retires on a high, after qualifying for the 2013/14 CL)

How can a friendly be described as bigger than Fergie leaving Man Utd. Utter disgrace.

I'm happy I didn't tune in and just got the news off here. They don't deserve listeners with the amount of bullshit they spout out!

Was that actually said?! I saw it mentioned but assumed it was a Chinese Whispers scenario, where people were going even more OTT than Stringer. Embarrassing.

This thread is cringeworthy. Seems like some fans are turning a blind eye to the fact real Madrid are coming to play a friendly in our stadium. Who cares what it cost or what strings are pulled, people will take notice. Not just fans and potential fans in youngsters but possibly players worldwide will see we are playing real and want a slice of what this club has to offer.

But I won't go cos it isn't really MAHOOOOSIVE news

Posted

Thankfully I wasn't aware of the RL hype surrounding this so I can't really comment on that.

What I will say is that the biggest club in the world are coming here in the summer, cheer up folks.

Would prefer it to be in Madrid, but yeah, good effort from everyone involved in actually getting them here. Doubt it's only going to be £10 for a ticket, though. It surely can't have been cheap to get Real to agree to play here so I'd expect slightly increased, closer-to-normal-league-match tickets for this one.

Will be interesting to see how many Barca and Real shirts are in our end for this as well as there always seem to be a few knocking around in pre-season.

Yea not as big as Stringer made out but how can anyone be disappointed or not excised?, It's LEICESTER CITY Vs REAL MADRID when ever else or if ever will we get to see our beloved club grace the same field as some of the best players ever . Or so many of us fans have the opportunity to be able to a) Be in with a chance of getting a ticket to see Real. b) Be able to afford it . So in that sense it is MASSIVE as for most of us this is once in a life time .
