The Massive News is...

My inside source tells me a young Bert once took snow's crayons in preschool. He's never gotten over the trauma.

You don't know that.

No, wait.

YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.

fantastic news. Never been to a friendy but i'll be happy to pay for this one!

Taking a different tone though, I bet this is the last friendly before the big kick off. Anyone else worried about getting a pummelling and killing the teams confidence?

Can you imagine that if someone had said on the day that we got relegated to league one that in just 3 seasons time we will have SGE in charge, multi millionaire owners and be playing Real Madrid :jawdrop: you would have verbally bashed them all over for being a total Kn*b .

Man I love being a Leicester City fan :scarf::trumpet:

Some are pissed off because there is going to be 32k at the ground for this game, i would rather that than 10k against Birmingham, a team we play our fair share of games against in a league fixture.

So if people are not annoyed about Stringers hype or the fact it will be a full stadium unlike against Watford yesterday, than yes, i have missed the point.

Nah, the stands will be full of Manure and Liverpool "supporters"<_<. I will be really pissed if the plastic fans will pay as much (as little) as me, a loyal season ticket holder. A away tie, this it could be a different story... Bernabeu

This thread isn't cringeworthy. Stringer's handlind of the news is cringeworthy. That is the theme of disheartenment and annoyance.

I think the majority of the posters believe the news of Real Madrid friendly is a positive one. It'll no doubt do wonders for publicity, maybe sell a few more season tickets, and be a nice spectacle for a full house prior to the start oft he season. Who knows maybe with a few decent additions we might pose a threat against them. WIshful thinking, I know.

The point that most people are making is Stringer's inability to conduct himself like a professional on the radio. His sheepish voice this morning suggested he knows he over-egged it. However this won't stop him doing it again, and again, and again, and again. This summer is going to be so full of speculation, every piece of news will be good news. NOT massive news. There might be a couple of big bits, but if Stringer blows his wad on a friendly then how in the hell can he cope when we bring in signings, improving the squad?

As some have said he's only doing his job. But the lad needs to learn scale and expectation. Otherwise he strengthens the opinion that he is unprofessional and his show is a circus of phone-in nitwits and moaners that reinforce his biased and somewhat destructive opinions which leech into his terrible commentary.

Exactly.

It's like he can't remember that a few years back we played a friendly with Barcalona. It's not like it's next to impossible for a club of our stature to get friendlies against the big boys. They don't want to play friendlies against teams they will be competing with, in their domestic league or in Europe, so a club like Leicester makes perfect sense. It's great news (I'll be trying to get a ticket) but MASSIVE? No.

Playing Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly. Just been on Radio.

Fooks sake! Is that it! Stringer is a knob

Would prefer it to be in Madrid, but yeah, good effort from everyone involved in actually getting them here. Doubt it's only going to be £10 for a ticket, though. It surely can't have been cheap to get Real to agree to play here so I'd expect slightly increased, closer-to-normal-league-match tickets for this one.

Will be interesting to see how many Barca and Real shirts are in our end for this as well as there always seem to be a few knocking around in pre-season.

not as bad as seeing a ****ing arsenal shirt in the kop yesterday.

I can't see how games of this type add any real value to the players pre-season preparations.

As a fan I'm underwhelmed, maybe 20/30 years ago it would have been impressive but when they're on the TV every other week it's hardly like you're seeing something special or unique.

Unless it's something like a fiver I've got better things to spend my limited funds on.

It also goes to show how they, the media at least misunderstand many fans by calling this news massive, Stringer getting the sack would be more massive than thiswink.gif

are you serious?

We wont get many other opportunities to see these players playing leicetser City again...

Its not about seeing them on the TV.. its aboout seeing them play OUR CLUB. hopefully in OUR STADIUM. it will be slightly weird for me seeing Ronaldo et all walking past filbert the fox, ect.

Is there a better pre-seaon friendly you can think of?

german team away, get a bit of safe-standing terraces since there's no way we'll get those in this country any time soon.

Well I'm not a fan of 'prestiges' pre-season friendlies, I really don't see what purpose they serve other than a money making scheme, which I'm not against but it's never sold as that. I don't consider it as a thank you to the supporters which it's often portrayed as. The games themselves are nothing more than a kick around with loads of substitutions, it's just not real football for me.

If it's cheap enough I might go like you might go to a local community fun day but as a football match it just doesn't appeal. I've been to many of them in the past and just found them so disappointing.

well their purpose is to see world class players playing against our team as lets face it for the forseeable future the TRULY world class stars wont be coming to Filbert Way under any other circumstances.

I remember the Barcelona friendly... it was pretty surreal seeing Ronaldino strutting his stuff on our pitch...

We played Inter Milan at the walkers not too long ago.

They maybe world class but they're are not performing in a 'proper' football match, it's more akin to comparing tame animals in a circus to ones in the wild or watching a professional singer miming. I just don't see the attraction they just leave me empt compared to a real game whatever the opposition..

I hope it's been mentioned that Real Madrid played the might of Shamrock Rovers two years ago in a pre-season game, so it's not exactly like this is attracting the Santos team of the 1960's with Pele in it over, in some kind of never-seen-before extravaganza.

Of course it's nice. Sky might rim us as well by showing the game live and giving us some love. It will get the desired media attention, but the main priority for me is that Real play a full team; to justify what will probably be £20+ tickets, and that we have our first choice squad ready to face them, which is also an exciting prospect.

Yes, season ticket holders should get a discount, and I'd be surprised if they were below £20 for non STH. But Madrid ain't gonna come cheap, and the club know they'll sell the game out pretty quickly.

PS: I'd be much more excited if it was Barcelona though, just saying

OH **** OF STRINGER YOU TWAT.

Thought this would be something GOOD for the club involving debt pay-off or a signing.

Playing Real Madrid? May be fun, but there is no beneift to the club and I certainly won't be going.

Can't believe how many people are saying when are we gonna see world class players at the walkers again etc. I'm guessing we will be faves for promotion next year so are we not playing man.utd, arsenal, Chelsea etc if we go up? I'm pretty sure they have world class players. Yes it isn't nailed on we will go up but if we don't it's failure. I'm not saying this isn't good news I think it might help attract players here in the summer just to line up against real. Also as we have to pay for them to come I hope they play there 1st team. I like some others also concerned about confidence for the start of the season as we have arsenal in Thailand to play to.
