Babylon Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Birmingham, Everton and Sunderland the other 3? It'll be in the merc tomorrow as Tanner tweeted about it earlier.
StanSP Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 It'll be in the merc tomorrow as Tanner tweeted about it earlier. Ah right cheers. Didn't see that.
Simmo86 Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 From the Merc Leicester City face a four-way fight to sign goalkeeper Keiren Westwood. The Republic of Ireland international is wanted by Premier League clubs Manchester City, Everton and Sunderland. But City could beat them to the punch by offering the 26-year-old first-choice status. Manchester City are expected to sell Shay Given this summer and want Westwood, who began his career with them, as back-up to Joe Hart, while Everton have a similar role in mind for the former Carlisle keeper behind Tim Howard. Sunderland are said to have opened talks with Westwood's agent but he will have to fight for number one status with Trevor Carson, but only until Scotland keeper Craig Gordon returns from injury. Westwood is out of contract at Coventry and the Sky Blues have offered him another deal, but City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is keen to land him as his number one keeper. Eriksson is searching for another keeper after releasing Portugal international Ricardo at the end of the season. He has been linked with a move for Given, who was the subject of a loan move by City in January. City have been linked with Leeds United keeper Kasper Schmeichel and there were reports yesterday they had lined up a £2million bid. Eriksson worked with the 24-year-old at Manchester City, but Leeds are unlikely to want to sell
StanSP Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 It's all well and good offering him first-choice status, but as Bert said, money talks. I don't know anything about Westwood apart from on the pitch, so I'm hoping he has some common sense!
Soar Fox Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Reminds me of a situation a couple of years back when we wanted Ross Turnbull who chose money over 1st team football.
ScouseFox Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Man City He's stupid if he goes there, unless he's all about the money.
MikeyT Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Man City He's stupid if he goes there, unless he's all about the money. Yep, just thinking exactly the same thing. C'mon Keiren come here, you know it makes sense!

I don't know anything about Westwood apart from on the pitch, so I'm hoping he has some common sense! Dont forget that he want to be 1st choice keeper for the Rep of Ireland and he wont do that sitting on the bench of a premier league team. He needs the garuantee of 1st team football for that.
ousefox Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Can't see him coming to us over City, even if he won't be first choice. Top 4 side and more money, no brainer really.

Simo86 Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Who's there 1st team keeper now then???????? There 1st choice keeper sorry!! Shay Given
Simo86 Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 No shit Sherlock!!! Is it that time of the month? There's no need to be so touchy! I was giving a sarcastic answer to your sarcastic question, you don't have to pick fault with things people say, the guy was just stating what Westwood has previously said! Shay Given has proven himself to be a world class keeper which is why he is still 1st choice for Ireland despite being Man City's reserve. It would be an entirely different scenario if Westwood was a no. 2 because he hasn't proven himself!

Dan Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 I wouldn't rule us out. Leicester he's 99% guaranteed to play every week. There's a very good chance of us going up. We have a manager higher profile than any of the other three. All in all, if he doesn't sign for us it's basically because of money and nothing else. We've got a good chance of playing these soon, can he wait another year for the Premier League? If so, we should be laughing.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 I'll just point out that this was in the Coventry Telegraph today. It said Man City, Everton & Leicester City are in the running but we are most likely as we are the only ones who can guarantee 1st team football. Obviously we have ambition and we're local to him aswell. They're lining up Joe Murphy as a replacement.
thybluefox Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 3 things could swing it for us. 1st team football, local, gallagher. I might have missed the link in this thread but has Sven said we're actually after him?
Hack Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Who's there 1st team keeper now then???????? There 1st choice keeper sorry!! If you had read my statement it said he would want to be 1st choice keeper for Ireland not that he is!! I know very well that it is Given currently. But what chance would he ever have of displacing Given replacing Given on the bench at Man City or Everton. He will never replace Hart as 1st choice or Howard at Everton. He needs 1st team football, short and sweet. He can take the money offered by at MC and say he is in the premier league or play somewhere and stay in the sight of the Ireland selectors. Now if he is offered by a PL club 1st team 1st choice then we are done.
ajthefox Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 Can't see him coming here over all 3 of them. Granted he'll be second choice but money talks and when he plays, he'll be playing Premier league. With us there is no guarantee he will ever even get to play premier league football
