funkyrobot Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 Given would also demand 6 or 7 times the wages of Westwood and is 7 years older though. For me along with Paddy Kenny the best 2 keepers outside of the Prem playing in this country. Would be a top signing that would not cost the earth. I hope you're right mate but I'm not convinced he's that much better than weale. If he was that good, he would've been snapped up by a top team many years ago. Given was a regular premier league player at a younger age than westwood is now. Old age is also far less an issue for a keeper than it is for outfield players.
The Sven Revolution Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 Owen Hargreaves, when fit, is the best defensive midfielder England has. He's not 'dull,' though I don't even know what's meant by that. England would've been a fantastic unit had they had Hargreaves to select. Classic example of injuries crippling talent. Do we stand any chance to get Hargreaves here? I think that would be a smashing signing! Is he back to fitness?
AaronH Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 What about joe lewis not a bad keeper and still young
Bugg Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 What about joe lewis not a bad keeper and still young I've said this many times on here... HE IS FUCKING SHIT!
Steven Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I've said this many times on here... HE IS FUCKING SHIT! I mentioned Joe Lewis on TB and got much the same reaction on there.
Adster Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I mentioned Joe Lewis on TB and got much the same reaction on there. It's cause it's true
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 ben foster for me. never get given in a million years
Jimmy Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 ben foster for me. never get given in a million years England's second choice keeper, you think we'd get him but not Given?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 England's second choice keeper, you think we'd get him but not Given? Given is by far the better keeper, and could quite easily play in any premiership team. The same can't be said with as much conviction for Ben Foster- Why did Man Utd let him go for example? Given is the best keeper in the premiership since schmeicheal
Jimothy Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 ben foster for me. never get given in a million years Ben Foster would be good at this level, I think he gets a bit like a rabbit in headlights when playing for top teams, hence why he's never really done well for Man Utd or England but has done well at Watford and Birmingham. But as Jimmy said he's first choice for Brum and England's number 2, he'd never come and Brum would never sell. We honestly have more chance of getting Given, who's a better keeper anyway.

To my knowledge he's never actually said he wants to leave Citeh has he? Once he does say that, every club in the prem will be interested. Doesn't Van Der sar retire this season?Could see Given going there

Doesn't Van Der sar retire this season?Could see Given going there Thing is Man City will happily let him sit on the bench paying him high wages, knowing they have a quality back up keeper, rather than sell him to any of their rivals. Man Utd and Arsenal both need a new keeper, but Man City will never sell to them. They can afford to keep him. If they did want to get rid, or he wanted to leave, he's more likely to move to a team that isn't challenging Man City for the title next season. If he goes he'll go to a lower Premiership team or a wealthy Championship team. Foster on the other hand is Birmingham's number one, so it's not even a question of us having competition for his signature, or not having enough cash to buy him, it's the fact that Birmingham aren't gonna sell him, and he's not gonna want to leave his positions as a Premiership number one.

Fair points. Noone would be happier than me though if we got Given
Walshy5 Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I reckon Given was the mystery loan player we tried to get in Jan but couldnt afford his wages.

Nick Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 Shay Given would be a top top signing... he'd help to sort out the shambles that is our defense I reckon we have as much chance as lining up Messi - the que begins for Given at the top of the Prem table.
