people slate yak for only scoring goals and not doing enough else

they slate heskey for not scoring goals but doing lots of other work

now if only they had a love child together we could have the perfect player...

Or the moaners worst nightmare!

And I'd still play him as a centre-back. We are absolutely crying out for someone with his strength, skill and know-how to lead and organise our defence. He'd also be invaluable making an extra attacker at dead ball situations. It could extend his career considerably and, looking at the shortcomings of today's two defences, I believe Heskey would be a foundation stone by comparison.

There's every indication it won't be scoring goals that will be our problem next season, but preventing them. Heskey wouldn't just have presence in the centre. His speed in short bursts would also enable him to provide good cover behind our attacking full-backs. it's a much neglected area but the more pace you have in defence the better. Ipswich conceded four today partly because they had sluggish centre-backs.

There's something wrong with your sig.

"Whats he wearing?"

"It was a white woman"

Just sayin.

Someone else mentioned this earlier in another thread ..

Its a quote from Michael Scott in the Office us whilst he's talking to his colleagues .. it's suppose to highlight his stupidity.

how do you know he has that? is he a clean tackler? does he read the runs of opponents quickly? just because he has the physical attributes of a good defender doesn't mean he can ease into a completely new position.

MON did play him at CB occasionally right? But still, I'd rather bring in an actual defender.

not that i recall. played there for 30mins for Wigan and was immense but that was a real back to the walls game (for survival). week in week out, tracking pacey strikers, bring the ball out from the back, etc, would be v different

Absolutely. Just recall MON saying something about him doing a job there at times. Perhaps mostly in training. Think it's on the 120 goals DVD.

He went mental playing for villa today.... ran after the ref, nearly nutted him, then had to be restrained in the tunnel and was brought of at half time lol

You're mad, Thracian, mad.

Perhaps we'll see about that. I was called mad (or similar) about King and Gradel too. One of our huge problems in defence this season has been our lack of experience and pace at centre-back.

And yet we could pair Heskey and Tunchev. Two full internationals, both decent footballers well capable of passing the ball, both accomplished reader's of the game, one fairly quick, the other a natural covering player. To me they seem tailor made for what we need both in the centre of defence and as cover for a pair of genuinely fast, attacking full-backs.

Heskey would also be a fair bet to contribute a few goals too from set-plays which we don't really get from defence at the moment. We'd have an entire close season for them to form an understanding and to work on set-plays.

With Yakubu, King and a quick striker plus a proper winger on the right and Gallagher's goals from the left we'd be virtually certain of scoring enough times to make a challenge and I feel 100% certain Heskey-Tunchev, Heskey-Mee or Heskey/A/N.Other would be far more solid than anything we've had at centre-back so far this season.

I don't mean mad as in wrong, btw, I just love the theory of Heskey being a centre half. And the way you put across all these points make it sound like it's glaringly obvious and would work a treat. But it's just crazy, just doesn't seem plausable, he's not a centre back, surely it'd be better to just sign a centre back?

How long did it take you to write that essay of crap.

He's a Striker. Not Dion fooking Dublin.

How the chuffin Nora do you come to the conclusion that someone who has played as a striker for 15 years will have the skill and know-how to organise a defence?

btw did anyone see DD as a pundit on ESPN yesterday?! Terrible! Apparently Spurs need another midfielder.

When Heskey left City, he went on record saying that Liverpool was the only other club he would have signed for. Since then, he has played for other clubs but he is a Leicester lad through and through and furthermore, he does still have strong and positive connections with LCFC.

I would not be at all surprised to see him back in a City shirt but if he does then I would love to see him play alongside Michael Owen. I have never forgotten when they fleetingly played together for England during which they demonstrated an immediate, almost telepathic understanding of each other's play.

When Owen came on, albeit briefly, as a sub for United against Shalke last week, he showed that he is still a potent threat and would have scored but yet for another outstanding save by their keeper. Owen surely has to reappraise his future and I don't see him commanding a regular spot at United. So being one of Sven's men could well appeal!

so we should sign a striker and play him in defence so he'd add an attacking threat from set pieces? Why not just start with him up front then.

I seem to recall you also lauded Sheehan, Dodds (if memory serves) Porter and Kee - none of which have exactly set the world on fire since leaving in my humble opinion.

I'm not sure how you've reached this conclusion myself. I'd hardly say Heskey has been a prolific goal scorer in his career and he's not exactly renowned for his menacing ability at set pieces is he? and it's not like he's been in teams with average set piece takers either - at Birmingham he had David Dunn, Muzzy Izzet, Savage amongst others. At Wigan he had N'Zogbia, Valencia, Koumas and at Aston Villa he's got Young, Downing and had Milner - so the quality of delivery is there without question and lets face it with that kind of service you'd expect him score more from set-pieces.

I sometimes wonder why you never throw your hat in the ring for the managers job because it sounds like we'd win the league hands down, score four every game and concede zero.

Owen's injured ALL THE TiME though. How many games would he realistically start in a tough, physical, 46 game season? 10? Not worth the crazy wages he'd demand (if he were to even consider coming here, which i doubt he would) imo.

He wont come back because he doesn't like being called Bruno and many LCFC fans don't seem to have got the message.

But then again they'll probable start singing about him eating dogs or something equally stupid.rolleyes.gif
