SystonFox Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 But it all comes out of a 'players budget' so to speak. Fees and wages are therefore mutually dependant. Spend too much on one and you're left with less for the other. Ferguson allowing Brown to go for £1mill allows Sunderland to pay him higher wages than they would have if they'd had to pay his 'market value' so to speak. +1. i completely understand how it works but in a logical sense it doesn't add up. Especially when you think we got Nugent on a free, that's basically saying if we'd paid £1m for him then we'd only pay him 10k a week rather than the 25k we are rumoured to be paying, surely Nugent wouldn't be happy with that? or does it only work one way.

I think what he's getting at is the Fergie wasn't to fussed about the fee he received for Brown, so sold him to Sunderland for a low price to allow him to get a higher wage. Almost as a thank you for his years of loyal service.

Nugent's contract had expired so no fee would be involved. However, I understand what you mean. It's not about an offer being split between the selling club and the player, but rather that the selling club wants to get rid of an expensive player. If they set the price high and the player asks for high wages, few will be interested, so they have to lower the price. I think what he's getting at is the Fergie wasn't to fussed about the fee he received for Brown, so sold him to Sunderland for a low price to allow him to get a higher wage. Almost as a thank you for his years of loyal service. That. Assuming Brown was on something like £40k a week, that adds up to over £4mil for the remainder of his contract. Add a £1mil fee and that's £5mil that Fergie has extra to play with...
IronHidez Posted 8 July 2011 Posted 8 July 2011 Swansea have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Benfica goalkeeper Jose Moreira for an undisclosed fee. Skysports.com reported earlier that Moreira was in Wales to hold talks with the Swans. And the Premier League new boys have announced the 29-year-old will be moving to the Liberty Stadium, subject to a medical. Manager Brendan Rodgers had been searching for a new keeper since Dorus de Vries chose to join Wolves on a free transfer last month. The Swans had been linked with a move for Poland international Grzegorz Sandomierski but have instead moved for Moreira, who has a solitary Portugal cap to his name. Good signing!

Wymsey Posted 11 July 2011 Posted 11 July 2011 Good capture that for Stoke. But he won't be guaranteed a place though, that's for sure. Some good defenders already in the squad prior to Woodgate arriving.

ScouseFox Posted 12 July 2011 Posted 12 July 2011 If you believe the papers up here then he's being fast-tracked into the England U21s and it shouldn't be long before he represents the full national side. He's not that good. Really not that good.
