Remember him being linked with us a few years ago. Seems an odd move to me.

Good little run-around. Pretty economical and 0-60 in a decent time.

Skysports.com understands that Leeds have made a move to take Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale on loan.

Stockdale: Leeds link

Simon Grayson's side are searching for another keeper after allowing Kasper Schmeichel to join Championship rivals Leicester, and have considered a number of options.

The likes of Jerzy Dudek and Andy Lonergan had been in Grayson's thoughts, but Stockdale is now believed to be their top target.

Stockdale has earned good reviews for his performances over the past couple of seasons but remains behind Mark Schwarzer in the Craven Cottage pecking order.

The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Swansea but Leeds will be hoping their desire to sign him on loan rather than permanently works in their favour.

John Arne Riise set to have Fulham medical

Riise already has experience of playing in the Premier League

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed that former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise is close to completing a move from Roma to Craven Cottage.

The 30-year-old Norwegian is due to undergo a medical with Fulham, suggesting terms have been agreed with the Serie A club.

"He's coming for a medical. If that's okay we've got ourselves a very good player," said Jol.

Riise's younger brother Bjorn Helge Riise is already on Fulham's books.

He came off the bench in Thursday's goalless draw with NSI Runavik which saw the club progress into the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

John Arne Riise spent seven years with Liverpool, making 371 appearances and scoring 34 goals before moving to Roma in 2008.

He played against his brother and Fulham in the 2009/10 Europa League group stages.

Loved Riise at Liverpool. Would be great to see him back in England.

Wes Brown joins Sunderland for a fee believed to be around £1m - BBC.

Posted

He was more than likely on a hefty wage at Man U, hence the low price.

What has the transfer fee got to do with his wage? Just saying

Posted

Because when a club budgets and thinks about buying players they look at how long they are giving him a contract for and what wages he'll be on + the fee to get an overall idea of how much he's going to cost. Utd will have allowed a relatively low fee to

a) get a mid- to reasonably high earner off their books

b) allow him to still get higher wages at Sunderland

Posted

I see what your saying but it doesn't make complete sense. Wage is irrelevant to transfer fee surely? Two different aspects of the "transfer"

Posted

But it all comes out of a 'players budget' so to speak. Fees and wages are therefore mutually dependant. Spend too much on one and you're left with less for the other. Ferguson allowing Brown to go for £1mill allows Sunderland to pay him higher wages than they would have if they'd had to pay his 'market value' so to speak.
