Chelsea agree fee for Lukaku

[Article here: http://www.guardian....elu-lukaku-deal]

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Anderlecht for the signing of striker Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian club have confirmed on their official website.

The 18-year-old has been linked with the Blues throughout the summer and scored 16 goals in 37 league appearances last season and already has two to his name in two games in the current campaign for the Brussels club.

A statement on Anderlecht's official website read: "RSC Anderlecht and Chelsea have reached an agreement regarding the transfer of Romelu Lukaku. Subject to the results of medical tests and the conclusion of negotiations between the player and the English club, Romelu Lukaku will therefore move into the colours of the London club."

Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck added on the official website: "We regret the departure of Romelu...but the agreement is a win-win situation for the player and RSC Anderlecht. The club's management is committed to finding a good replacement in the short term. We wish him every success for the rest of his career."

Chelsea also released a statement which read: "An agreement has been reached with Anderlecht for the transfer to Chelsea of striker Romelu Lukaku. The move is now subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing personal terms."

The player posted a comment on Twitter which read: "I have an announcement to make...Next week I'm going to London for the medical tests."

The Chelsea manager, André Villas-Boas, is now closing in on the third signing of his reign, and admitted after Saturday's friendly against Rangers that a deal was close.

He said: "He is a very interesting young prospect and the situation is now that we have to position ourselves to maybe get this kind of talent. So I would say that anything can happen."

The Blues reportedly had an £18m bid for the player turned down last month.

Always signs for them on football manager anyway.

Shane Long to West Brom

Is he going to be a real stand out their and in the prem or do you think he should of come to us and gained more experience and then gone up with us?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Arsenal £12 plus £3m in add-on.

Could have bought one and half decent centre-backs for that Arsene, you nutter!

That is crazy money.

Just another reason to be aware of Southampton now. £12m buys you at least three to four more than decent additions.

The Saints have just gone up in my estimation and should pose a more serious threat now.

I wouldn't underestimate them now - still have plenty of time to get replacements in and running.

Barring an unparalleled cluster****, Wesley Verhoek to Forest for an undisclosed fee thought to be in the region of 2m or so.

Well done your first decent signing

Stoke sign Matthew Upson on two year contract.

If Woodgate and Upson show what their capabilities are most games, I don't expect Stoke to concede many than they have done in the past few seasons.

To be fair to him, going to Nottingham has that effect on me too...

I get a bit queezy when Ratcliffe power station comes into view to be honest...

lol

He was photographed at the shitty ground with his gf. She probably saw the smashed up shop fronts and had a few things to say about the place.

Wenger's a twat. They can score as many goals as they want but if you have clowns like Koscielny and Squillaci at centre back, you're going to concede more.

A mate of mine who supports West Ham said that Upson was awful last season and one of their main causes for getting relegated.

Chris Riggott has returned to Derby, the club who helped to launch his career, and has signed a one-year deal.

Scored for Derby at Leicester once.

They still lost.
