MikeyT Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6926716,00.html Skysports.com understands a host of Championship clubs are chasing Leicester City defender Jack Hobbs. Hobbs is expected to leave Leicester this summer after finding himself out of favour under manager Sven Goran Eriksson. The former Liverpool youngster ended the season on loan at Hull City and he impressed during his spell at the KC Stadium. The news that Leicester are prepared to offload Hobbs comes as a surprise as, only last season, he was voted player of the year and players' player of the year, but it appears he does not figure in Eriksson's long-term plans. Hull are leading the chase for Hobbs with Tigers boss Nigel Pearson a huge fan of the central defender having signed him during his time in charge of Leicester. However, a number of other Championship clubs have been alerted to Hobbs' possible availability and are ready to battle Hull for the former England Under 21 international's signature.
bmt Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 It is a shame, I used to really like Hobbs, however I trust Svens judgement. Just wish there was a way we would see Vitor again.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 Will be a decent signing for some team, just not sure what happened to him this season.
SMX11 Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 If we are to sell him it can't be on the cheap, 1.5 mil + is worth considering.
MPH Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 I Have mixed feelings about this. I love the guy and he was great for us... but under Sven he wasnt that impressive and lacked the passing ability for our 'total football'. He looked equally shaky with the passing style under Sousa. I Just hope this one doesnt come back to bite us on the arse.
cc_star Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 Will go on to be great for someone else It's a shame that he was the one pushed to an unfavoured position, would have loved to have seen Sven bring in an experienced LCB to play alongside him, instead of pushing the young lad out of position and sticking him with people even more inexperienced than himself. He will be a leader at the back one day I had hoped it would be with us, but it looked doubtful ever since Sven signed numerous defenders, choosing to develop players for other clubs rather than a talent on own books, whom I might add, also failed to stop the goals being shipped.
Ozwin Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 We've got hardly any perminant defenders at the club now all the loanees have gone back. We should be keeping players like Hobbs for now, even if we're thinking of signing one or two (which you'd expect). We can always sell him once we have actual players on contracts here but there's no point risking getting rid of a decent defender in Hobbs and then getting in someone not as good like Bruma.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 If he goes I'll wish him luck and thank him for being here in those two brilliant seasons. Fact is, we've seen in the likes of Mee and Vitor that we should aspire to players like these, better than Hobbs. He'd be a good back-up Centre-back, but does he want that? Does he deserve that? I doubt it. Also the key is that several Championship clubs are chasing him, not Premier League.
Ricey Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 It would be a mistake to let him go. A good, young player with time to improve. Unfortunately, it's clear Sven doesn't rate him, most probably because of his pace.
Fox You Forest Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 most probably because of his pace. Plus his inability to play out from the back. Ian C has it spot on.

Come on dude! There is no way Sven will clear out all his defence in one go, before bringing in replacements. As you seem not to be aware our manager is very experienced indeed and regarded by many as one of the best in his field in the world Just because Hobbs may be sold, it doesn't mean that will be today or tomorrow.
Callabinho Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 I wish him luck, but im not to fussed, there are much better defenders out there he did not look up to the race start of the season this is why I believe his good performances were more down to the no nonsense defending of Brown.

I would imagine Tunch's contract will have in impact on this one way or the other.
GianEmmo Zola Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 Hobbs is a no nonsence defender he was always going to look shaky under paolo sousa he wanted every player to pass pass pass. Even from the back was never going to happen. Hobbs had never looked the same since, the hobbs of old.
BrummieFOX Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 If we are to sell him it can't be on the cheap, 1.5 mil + is worth considering. No chance!
stu Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 No chance! Agreed, we'd be lucky to get what we paid of him. £400,000 at the most.
SMX11 Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 Agreed, we'd be lucky to get what we paid of him. £400,000 at the most. I meant I wouldn't sell him for less than 1.5 mil. If someone offered 400k for him I would laugh in their face.
David Guiza Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 Why would anybody pay 1.5m for a defender who's out of favour at a mid table Championship side? Like the above poster said we'd be lucky to get anymore than 400,000

I understand your thinking, but if he is not going to get in our team and he is not wanted here we are not going to ask for that kind of money. Because of this and due to his form this season I think 400k is pretty realistic I'm afraid.

ozleicester Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 If its true, (which logic suggests it is)... then thanks Jack, you were superb in the previous two seasons but dont fit the style that Sven is looking for. I will be proud to say he was a city player and wish him good luck. I have no doubt that he has a big future in the game... but, im not sure at what level. 500,000 would be a fair deal in my eyes. well played
RowlattsFox Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 We got £1.2m for fryatt didn't we and he wasn't in our team. I don't think a million atleast for hobbs is unreasonable. If we are only being offered 400,000 then he should stay.
