Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 31 May 2011 Posted 31 May 2011 Surprised West Hams are ok about this, they're always going on about having a passion for 'proper football' being played, whilst Allardyce is a long ball man.
Corky Posted 31 May 2011 Posted 31 May 2011 Could've managed Inter Milan. They've done well to get him.
AjcW Posted 31 May 2011 Author Posted 31 May 2011 Well its been changed to "set for" now but its as good as confirmed. Allardyce set for Hammers post31/05/2011 West Ham's hunt for the man they will entrust to take them back to the Premier League could end on Wednesday, with Sam Allardyce thought to be close to taking the Upton Park reins. The Hammers sacked Avram Grant last month after their relegation to the npower Championship was confirmed with a game to spare, and a number of names, such as Dave Jones, Neil Warnock and Malky Mackay had all been touted. But Press Association Sport understands that 56-year-old Allardyce has impressed co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan so much that he could be unveiled on a two-year deal imminently. If Allardyce is the man, it will be his first job since he was dismissed by Blackburn in December and it will be the first time he has managed outside the top flight in a decade. Having cut his teeth with Blackpool and Notts County, he made his name as a manager with Bolton and took them to the Premier League through the play-offs in 2001. He then established them as a Premier League club and even took them into Europe in 2005. His work on a relatively low budget did not go unnoticed and he moved to Newcastle in 2007, only for Mike Ashley to take over the club two weeks later and sack Allardyce after just six months. After an 11-month absence he returned to management with Blackburn in December 2008 and was thought by many to be doing a reasonable job, again on a low budget, when he was sacked six months ago. Again his dismissal was authorised by an owner that did not employ him, but, if Gold and Sullivan make the decision to appoint him, Allardyce can hope to get the time he needs to reshape the east London club. One of his first tasks will be to resolve the future of the club`s leading names, the majority of whom are expected to leave. England quartet Carlton Cole, Rob Green, Scott Parker and Matthew Upson will all have suitors, as will midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger.

FoxyPV Posted 31 May 2011 Posted 31 May 2011 Did I miss something? Bog Sam claimed that if he managed a big club like the one mentioned then he'd win silverware every year.
Ozwin Posted 31 May 2011 Posted 31 May 2011 I wouldn't say Big Sam is a long ball man, he's more of a safety first/kick your fackin' head in sort of guy.
Wymsey Posted 31 May 2011 Posted 31 May 2011 Perhaps on a smaller budget but whoever plays for West Ham, Sam will get them performing well.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Surprised West Hams are ok about this, they're always going on about having a passion for 'proper football' being played, whilst Allardyce is a long ball man. Well how ever they were playing before didn't help them.
ajthefox Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Good appointment for the Hammers. Say what you like about his football style but he makes it work.
sdb Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 That's a very well suited pairing. I wish them everything but success.
Head Honcho Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 This may come back to bite me on the arse next May but imo he's an average manager at best. He took over from Ince at Blackburn and it was a win win situation. My gran's a better manager than Ince. He replaced Roeder at Newcastle again win win! He made poor signings ( although getting rid of Titus Bramble has elevated him into Geordie folklore) and it wasn't long before this started to show, he was promptly replace after 6 months! No one can deny his success at Bolton. It was however 10 years ago! There's no way on earth a team from this division could get into the top 2 playing in the Bolton style of 2001. I can't be arsed to see who the last team who did was, but can't see it happening anytime soon........too much quality in this league these days. I can see them finishing top 6, but unless they keep their big guns, top 2 never!

I can see them finishing top 6, but unless they keep their big guns, top 2 never! If I'm led to believe what I've read, it was more the "behind the scenes" stuff that went on with Allardyce which was why he was so successful. He was one of the original managers who mixed science with football and his attention to detail (diets, eating times, individual tailored programs, heart monitoring...etc) mixed with the ability to leave no stones unturned, meant he held a considerable advantage over other similar sized clubs. Even though we were successful around the same time, it was frightening to hear some of Walshy's stories of drinking and tomfoolery. Pearson developed a similar ethos at the club during his reign and we rocketed. Sousa however didn't and we all know the consequences. So why does Allardyce look the shadow of his former self? Well it's simply the fact that most teams (even down to league 1)now understand the importance of mixing Science so his advantage is lost. It's a bit like Formula One - Allardyce might have been the only manager 10 years a go spending his Sunday worrying about the aerodynamics of his driver's left glove. Now even the Force India boss is in the wind tunnel trying to gain splits while his wife tucks into the sprouts.
purpleronnie Posted 1 June 2011 Posted 1 June 2011 Seems like a great appointment, I'd be amazed if they dont go straight back up.
AjcW Posted 1 June 2011 Author Posted 1 June 2011 As an aside.... Tony Fernandes. Boss of Air Asia and F1 Team Lotus has made an offer to buy West Ham Utd. Team Lotus Formula One boss Tony Fernandes claims he has made an offer to buy West Ham United. The 47-year-old Hammers-supporting entrepreneur missed out on buying West Ham last year to current co-owners David Sullivanand David Gold. Fernandes also rejected the opportunity to form a partnership with Sullivan and Gold as they sought investors. Fernandes admitted in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League that he would get involved in the club if fans wanted him to and now he has tabled an offer to gain control at Upton Park. The Air Asia tycoon posted on Twitter: "For all you west ham fans an offer has gone to the present owners of west ham. Let's see if they accept." West Ham's relegation could see the club's debts soar past the £100million mark, but it remains to be seen if Gold or Sullivan will decide to sell to Fernandes.
