North-LondonFox Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Nugent looked potentially dangerous from what I saw Saturday but not without some pace and company around him. I really wish I could play a video on here to show how isolated he was. He was left 25-30 yards from his nearest team-mate at times. Our central midfield players rarely made any of the supporting runs necessary to help him and give him passing options. It reminded me of Cardiff away in the second half. I agree that if we are missing anything, then its creativity from midfield and cutting edge up front. Its not that we are weak in these positions, its just that we have not strengthened with attacking players as we have done elsewhere on the pitch. We need to ensure that we have the ability to unlock games as well as keep things tight. However, I would add that we have a very strong squad and I am sure we have enough to challenge for a top spot - its just if we were to improve anywhere its in these positions.

FoxTrott Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Yak not included in everton squad for friendly says fourth_official. Followed by: "Seems Yakubu was allowed to stay in England due to the birth of his child #EFC" Would love to see Yak back here, but looks increasingly unlikely. Sadly.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 Yak is not at the top of svens list. He has other alternatives due to Yak's wage.

Sadly. He's not coming, we would have tied it up a long time ago if it was going to happen.
tewkesbury-fox Posted 2 August 2011 Posted 2 August 2011 All Sven's contacts, a whole bloody close season, our need for strikers well established and we still can't sign anyone to score goals! Pity we didn't get the attackers before the defenders and midfielders but that wouldn't be Leicester's way, would it? I get a big sense of money being thrown around but no sense of us having a truly attacking philosophy and that was well apparent in the Real Madrid game where we were dogged enough but had no footballing spirit of adventure whatsoever. In fact we were ages before we hit a shot on target and there weren't too many overall... Poor Nugent couldn't have less company if he'd been a leper in the desert. If played as on Saturday, Sven's 4-3-3 will be devoured in its own cul-de-sac by anyone half decent. Pace on the break, width from players who can beat people and cross thoughtfully, plus fast passing and getting numbers in the box quickly are the requirements of attacking effectively, We lacked the whole bloody lot on Saturday except for brief glimpses of pace and ability from Vassell. Are we going to go another season with the brakes on? Or are we going to remember the legacy of the last 10 years and have a go for once? I concour with your assessment,a striker was in my opinion a top priority if we are looking to finish in the top two, sure with what we got we should in theory finish in the play offs, but then it becomes a lottery.

Perhaps if he'd have signed for us (and only he and Sven know the reason why he did'nt ),perhaps you're theory on "Leicesters way",would be a flawed one ?
