LCFC Management Restructure

From the OS:

Leicester City Football Club is delighted to announce the appointments of Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan and Finance Director Simon Capper.

Current Director of Football Administration and Head of Football Operations, Andrew Neville will take on a new role as the Football Director of the club, with responsibility for player acquisitions in addition to his current role, but will not sit on the board of directors.

Both Susan Whelan and Simon Capper replace Lee Hoos and Mark Johnson respectively, who left the club recently as part of a management restructure.

Speaking exclusively to LCFC.COM about the restructure, Leicester City Vice-Chairman, Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, said: "We thank Lee and Mark for their hard work and service during their time at the club and wish them both the best for their respective futures."

Miss Susan Whelan is the Senior Executive Vice-President of King Power and joined the board of directors of Leicester City in December 2010, along with Club Chairman Vichai Raksriaksorn and Miss Supornthip Choungrangsee, following Asia Football Investments' takeover in August 2010.

Whelan, who brings with her a wealth of commercial experience and success working with King Power, is a landmark appointment becoming the club's first ever female Chief Executive Officer and will ultimately be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, focusing her attentions on all commercial activity.

Incoming Chief Executive Officer Susan Whelan, said: "Leicester City is a proud club, with a great history and it is an honour for me to take on this role.

"I have been on the club's board of directors for over six months now and as such have a greater understanding of how the club works and the leadership required for this role. I am also fortunate to have people around me with great experience and knowledge of the football industry, which will aid my transition.

"One of the biggest challenges we face will be making the club self-sufficient. To even attempt to do this we must work with the local community, the supporters and businesses, whilst creating a venue that people choose to use throughout the week and not just on matchdays. This will build upon the work we are currently doing to improve the supporter experience, which has begun with the implementation of video screens at the stadium. This is just the start of our plans.

"I believe that we are assembling a talented collection of staff, both on and off the field, supporting the owners' commitment to excellence, so we have much reason for optimism. We have the foundations set in place for success, but it is now important that everyone continues to work hard, both individually and collectively, to deliver success as we enter an exciting new era at Leicester City."

Leicester City Vice-Chairman, Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, added: "Susan, Simon and Andrew will all form an integral part of the leadership and direction of the club.

"We are very pleased to have such a wealth of experience and business talent at the forefront of the club's administration staff, supporting our world-class manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, as we attempt to return Leicester City to the Premier League."

EDITED to say, Mods can you can the title to club management restructure or something. Don't want people getting giddy thinking Svens gone!

Anybody care to shed on Andrew Neville's football experience?

It was clear when Hoos shifted out that Whelan was coming in as CEO, but Neville in charge of recruitment?

Anybody on Linkedin care to cut and paste?

I think when it says 'in charge of player acquisitions' it means Sven and the scouts etc tell him who they want and he negotiates the deals with the respective clubs, rather than he picks the players he wants.

The role will be to consider terms and conditions put forward by the prospective player and of course negiotiate the fee, rather than choose the players. However, what I'd like to know is what experience this gentleman has in footballing terms. If he works for King Power, negiotiating the best terms for pallets of whiskey and cigarettes isn't pedigree in my opinion.

...thus anybody got his online Linkedin CV they can cut and paste?

I think this appointment can put at rest a lot concern fans may of had about how long the Thais were likely to stay involved in LCFC. For them to appoint the Ex VP of King Power to the CEO role should tell everyone they are here for keeps. They have effectively merged the operations. It would be much more difficult to sell when you have such intertwined operations between a football club and an external commercial enterprise. This is very good news. I alo think we can now expect significant investment in the playing roster as well as other investments in the club based on this announcment.

I am sure they are not here to fail. The talk about making the club self sufficent (doesn't give time line) indicates they will try to explore and exploit as many revenue angles a they can. Sounds like they want to use the stadium for other purposes other than game day as well as go hard for sponsorship.

Andrew Neville has done by all accounts a very good job behind the scenes at Leicester over the years and i'd not be too concerned about his new role of organising transfer deals for us. He'll not be picking them, just negotiating and even then the manager and chairman have a fair amount of input with the player and their representatives, certainly if it's a big player we're trying to bring in.

He has worked at City for years, he was here before King Power were around.

I wasn't aware of his name to be fair. I do hope that he has the gift of the gab. I feel the internal moves are financially a wise move, but I guess my optimism of bringing in someone external to bolster our transfer capabilities was wishful thinking more than anything.

Well upwards and onwards.

Also on a side point

Simon Capper, formerly of Sheffield United, has been appointed Finance Director.

Now I don't know the details of the Blunts downfall, but haven't they sunk without a trace due to a HUGE blackhole in their finances even though they were promoted to the Premiership?

Or is this gentleman prior to this catastrophe in finances?

Not sure recruitment is his bag. Had dealings with him when I rented property to the club and at that time he seemed like he was something to do with finance or HR?? Nice chap though.

.... and The new commercial director is Laura Oakes, who used to work for the Welsh RFU. She replaces Paul Hunt, who recently left to join Blackburn Rovers. The new make-up of the club's board of directors is expected to be announced soon.

From what's she's saying, I think Susan will be a good internal acquisition as she speaks in a good business sense.:fc:

I like the sound of all of this. I really think the new owners have bought back a sense of "togetherness" to the club. It's early days of course but everything I have read that they have said has encouraged me. I feel that we are maybe at the beginning of another golden era. I don't want to get too excited or be accused of getting carried away so I'll whisper it for now......We can do this. We can bloody do this!!

Is anyone interested in our new Finance Director - Simon Capper? <- click for his LinkedIn profile.

I wonder what the Blunt fans make of his tenure at the wheel of their Premiership millions? Well the ones left after their drop down to League One and the wholesale stripping of their team's assets because of this.

If this gentleman was not involved in their demise then can I please be assured by someone that he's going to take a considered approach to all things financial in Leicester.

Just read that Moodier report. The LCFC store will be like a corner shop to her. I hope she has a high boredom threshold!
