Nick Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Not got a great record - this is a gamble surely? Couldn't break into Birmingham's first XI last season.
MGLCFC Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Waghorn not a great signing, couldn't break into the Sunderland first team last year. Difference being Waghorn cost £3mil, Derbyshire nothing!!!
Nick Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 From Olympiakos linkage provided above: Yes he made some heroic performances - however - please come on fellas lest be honest - who would you play him ahead of ?? and lets be honest - we are Olympiacos - sorry but Matt Derbyshire is no where near good enough for us - even off the bench. I dont know maybe a bit part player in the early rounds of the Greek cup and thats about it.
Pookie Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 I think his record with Olympiakos in the league was 17starts (9 sub) 11 goals
Stevosevic Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Not got a great record - this is a gamble surely? Couldn't break into Birmingham's first XI last season. To be fair to Derbyshire, that was a premiership side. And even if he did get a few games for them, Birmingham were one of the worst footballing sides i have ever seen so that wouldn't have suited his style of play.

Jobyfox Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Not being funny right but what does being Gallys father in law have to do with anything? I doubt sven goes shouting potential deals around in the dressing room before their completed somehow Whilst I'm far too mature to get involved with the Twittering (or is that Tweeting?) fraternity I have managed to glean that Paul G is mates with Matt D. Also Paul G's wife is mates with Matt D's wife. I would imagine that the whole Derbyshire family probably go round to the Gallagher's for Sunday dinner when they are in town. But, if it is Gally's FIL, then it's nice of him to take the time to share this info with us.
Blinking Blue Owl Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Hope sven has bought him as back up only ? not impressed with this signing .

Leicester_Loyal Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Decent signing, even if he is only a back up striker, he'll be one of the best back up strikers in the league, if not the best. Here we are seeing Svens 2 players competing for 1 position theory again.
Nick Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 There is also quite a lot of praise for him on there. nostalgia associated with big moments - no consistency and released from contract. Surely that tells a story. He'll have a lot to prove, that's for sure.
MGLCFC Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 On a free it is not really a problem - I'm more impressed with this signing than some of the names banded about, Anochibe, Miller, Le Fronde et al. It also gives Sven time to ensure that the main target (whether it be Maynard or Keane or someone else) can be successfully concluded. I can't see for one minute the Thai owners saying to Sven, you've got a great defence and midfield now, but hey we're stopping the money, so you'll have to make do with what you've got up front.
Bezzanator89 Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Still waiting for the 20-a-season goalscorer. Decent auxiliary striker though. <_<
Simmo86 Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Won't happen Please dont tell me he's signing for those ***** in Notts!
Nick Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 I'm going to take a step back and hold off with the negativity - up front with Nugent he could be immense. Age is on his side top flight experience - real tryer. I'll see him play first - this could be a masterstroke even if he was our third/fourth choice option.
sphericalfox Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 I've seen Derbyshire play both wings inthe past. He's a good crosser. He's not our man up front. That will come yet. Good signing in a free.
Happy Fox Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Maybe Sven realized that he was not worthwhile pursuing and is going for someone better i.e Forsell?
MC Prussian Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Won't happen Please dont tell me he's signing for those ***** in Notts! Well, F"*çst are pretty much skint - why else did the Verhoek deal backfire? As it stands, just scaremongering from a Rovers fan.
Simmo86 Posted 9 August 2011 Posted 9 August 2011 Maybe Sven realized that he was not worthwhile pursuing and is going for someone better i.e Forsell? How is Forsell better?

He'll have a lot to prove, that's for sure. 17 starts, 11 goals.. pretty consistent to me He was released from his contract due to change of management, was never really given a chance before being loaned out to Birmingham. He was relatively limited regarding first team oppurtunites at Birmingham, there's a couple of tidy finishses against Milwall here though: I can understand the point your making, and I appreciate it. But i can't help but think this is a very, very shrewd signing by Sven. It might be a risk, but it's a risk worth taking on a free IMO.

Really, another Vassell? We'll end up with 5 players that can all play anywhere on the pitch that'd be scary for teams - tough to learn your opponents traits then! Being bought as a versatile winger come forward is interesting - I had not considered this.
