Matt Derbyshire

Pleased.

He has a great goals per starts ratio.

He's a finisher, plays on the last shoulder of the defence, could play in a two with Nugent or even in the middle of a three with Nugent on the left.

I think this emphasizes that just because we have the cash doesn't mean we are going to pay massively overweighted fees for the likes of Maynard and co

There will be a few who moaned that Long and Maynard were way over-priced but will also moan that Derbyshire is an anti-climax as he's essentially another free transfer. I think this is a great signing and if needs be we can bring in a big name on loan in a month or so such as Keane or another high earner that's not getting a game in the PL.

Derbyshire will score goals. FACT. If this is true and we have got him, its a bloody bargain. Him and Nugget up top could be potentially lethal. Very Happy :)

Sven's spree not slowing down as Leicester manager signs Ball and Derbyshire

Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson has taken his tally of summer signings to 12 with the capture of Michael Ball and Matt Derbyshire.

Ball joins on a one-year deal with a one-year option subject to Football League approval.

The 31-year-old has been out of the game since leaving Manchester City in 2009 but knows Eriksson from his time there and earned his only England cap under the Swede in 2001.

Ball started his career at Everton and played for Rangers and PSV Eindhoven before moving to Manchester.

He has been training with the Foxes since July.

Eriksson told Leicester's website: 'Michael is another very experienced player that will add further depth to our squad. He is a good influence both on and off the pitch and has a positive effect in the dressing room.

'He has come back from a spell out injured and has a good opportunity to recapture his previous form. If he can do that, he will be a bargain for us.'

Derbyshire has joined after being told by Olympiakos he was free to find another club.

The 25-year-old striker moved to Greece from Blackburn in 2009 but spent last season on loan with Birmingham.

Leicester travel to Rotherham in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

I have a feeling we will get someone else, either a striker or "winger" someone to play wide in the front 3.

I have to disagree with him. I refer to one of my posts from about 5 pages back in response to something 'wherethefoxhat?' said.

For the minimal price you would pay, he would be a decent player to have, and im sure given the chance, he would score at this level. The reason Derbyshires stats dont look so good is because so many of them were made as a substitute, whereas (if comparing) Maynards strike rate looks alot better as he has always been the main striker and rarely starts as sub. If you take this in to account by assuming sub appearances are 45mins, their rates arent too dissimilar.

Alot of assumptions i know, but i think Derbyshire would be a decent acquisition, but thats just my opinion

I cant remember the exact figures, but I think both were around 1 goal every 2.2 games

The Mercury is late publishing online.

Usually a hint they are waiting for something to happen.

...or that they're waiting and watching this thread to see if anyone claiming to be ITK says anything, their journalism always strikes me as seriously lazy!

I thoguht his goal scoring record was better than it is, 31 in 130 games instead great.

However he's someone I've always rated and maybe the drop in division will be kind to him.

I don't think he's our 20+ a season striker though.

if you ignore his Blackburn and Birmingham record where a lot of his appearances were as a sub his record is ok. .... 21 goals in 54 games :dunno:

A large amount of those apperances are as a sub though, particularly at Blackburn.
