Vardinhio Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Every year I make the effort to read a few of these on holidays. Recently I've read Roy Keanes, Matt Le Tissiers and Jeff Stelling (ok obviously not a footballer). Le Tissier's was brilliant. He is dead bitter about his England career (or lack of). Any other good ones?
sdb Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Paul McGarth's is the best. Birch's is good. Maradona's not bad. Few good Clough books.
Webbo Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Some parts of Frank Worthington's biog were hilarious other parts were just him bragging about his female conquest . If you can remember when he was playing then his tales about some of his fellow players are well worth reading.
Fox92 Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I'm not a big reader, but when I go on holiday I always read a footballers book - I enjoyed Robert Pires, Robbie Fowler, theres a few good Brian Clough books, and also Georgie Best. Theres some funny stories in Robbie Savage's book as well.
21st Century Fox Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I saw Jamie Lawrence: From Prison to the Premiership on the bargain bin shelf at my local post office... I've not read it though
Zingari Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Tales From The Boot Camps by Steve Claridge is supposed to be quite good . but footballer's life stories ain't my read of choice really
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Pele', My life and the beautiful game Great read Ah, "The Black Pearl" himself. The world's best ever player.
ozleicester Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Ah, "The Black Pearl" himself. The world's best ever player. I agree.. the best ever.... excpet perhaps.... just maybe.... G Best? Im sure i read somewhere a quote along the lines of... Best did everything Pele could do.. but, in the mud! Outside of them... there is daylight until a long way back you see the the hand of.... Oh and just finished this... interesting read for behind the scenes
The Year Of The Fox Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 David Beckhams 'My Side' His first one, which covers growing up, signing for man utd, breaking into the first team, the red against the argies, the penalty 4 years later, the greece equaliser amongst other things. I have so much more respect for the bloke after reading it.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Oh and he has bits and pieces to say about sven obviously
broughtonblue Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 I only read sporting autobiographies. Football wise I would go along with the people that recommend Robbie Fowlers, but Paul Gasgoine, being gazza, and Tony Adams, addicted are also very good. If I could recommend any sports though, Lance Armstrongs 2 books are possibly the best I've read. Just got Pele's today from car boot, 50p. Bargain!
John Matrix Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 Oh and just finished this... interesting read for behind the scenes looks good
ozleicester Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 David Beckhams 'My Side' His first one, which covers growing up, signing for man utd, breaking into the first team, the red against the argies, the penalty 4 years later, the greece equaliser amongst other things. BrummieFOX Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Haven't read an autobiography for quite a while. Used to read them a lot when I was younger. In terms of an interesting read, Paulo Di Canios was good, though it made me dislike him quite a lot. As some have already said, McGrath's is really good. Just can't stand the fact that players now have books based on the first few years of their careers. Rooney has one for **** sake!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Savage's was alright, read two Clough ones which were decent, Gerrards was ok but a few years old now, Shilton's was also ok, maybe try somethign like the Damned United? thats good.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Neil Lennon's and Stuart Pearce's are both half decent.
