fatboytim Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 With our search for new strikers seemingly not making much headway - CMS apparently off to Brighton, all quiet on the Nugent and Maynard fronts - it seems to me that quite a few people are saying 'give Waghorn a chance', but not many are saying the same about Vassell. Which got me wondering, if you ONLY included the games where he played for us up front does anyone know what his goals/games ratio was? Before I get slated, I will freely admit that I don't get to the Walkers very often, and although I enjoy football, I am not at all knowledgeable about it
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 I just remember the reaction on here when we were linked with Vassell. Turns out he's been a more than decent bit of business, especially considering he cost nada apart from signing on fees and the like.
Houdini Logic Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Vassell down the middle is immense. Certainly a more than capable plan B
Callabinho Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Well I thought considering Vaz had no pre season he did well. He still has pace to burn he is skillful and when he is on song he is a nightmare to deal with! I think with a pre-season under his belt he will be a real asset next season out wide or down the middle! I like him and I think at this level when fully fit he will score goals!
Itsthejoeker Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 His contribution to the team is brilliant, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he playing a Midfield role?
Callabinho Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 His contribution to the team is brilliant, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he playing a Midfield role? A wide role, effectively winger/forward, or down the middle.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Vassell could be important this year. I think he could end up scoring a fair few goals.
Joe. Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Whenever Vassell played down the middle last season (which was extremely rare) he seemed to do very well. We could do a lot worse, but he won't be first choice in the position when the season starts anyway.
cc_star Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 If he was any good down the middle these days why didn't Sven play him there? Before the Forest goal I think he'd scored about 1 in 20 He's been a good bit of business on a free, but I just can't see he's going to be troubling the top of the scoring charts
Monk Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 As it stands, it looks to me as if Sven is looking to play 4-1-2-1-2 or a flat 4-4-2 in the new season, and I think Vassell can definitely be one of those front 2, interchangably with Waghorn. I think we''ll be playing a much more attacking style of play (if that's possible?!), and I think we'll be playing more through balls at pace, with both strikers feed off. That said, we still need a second key striker in the 2nd spot up front, and for me it has to be someone with physical presence. Who that ends up being remains to be seen. I think Vassell will be in the starting 11 on the first day of the season.
Christoph Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 He did well up front, I think he scored a nice little volley when he was playing up there. Him linked up with the Yak wouldnt be a bad idea I think
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Vassell is one fo Sven's 'favourites' has been since his England days. He will have a big part to play next season I'd have thought.
BrummieFOX Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Love the Vass. Very consistent last season, a calm head, lightening pace and the ability to hold the ball up if paying through the middle. I expect him to start against Cov.

I agree with this! And he is also one of my favourite. I have seeing him att M. City and he is a man given 100% and now fuel season :scarf:

Before I get slated, I will freely admit that I don't get to the Walkers very often, and although I enjoy football, I am not at all knowledgeable about it Thought he had some outstanding games playing down the middle. A classic example was Bamba's early goal v Man City, the corner was won through Vassells ability and tenacity.Using his pace and touch he had the Man City defenders panicking. This was not a lone moment and on most occasions when he played centrally he put in some excellent performances. I don't think playing wide suits him as much but it would not surprise me if he builds on a more than decent half season this year.
Father Ted Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Very good squad player but won't be starting every week next season I would have thought.
Fox92 Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 I think he was the most consistant player last season, can't remember him putting a foot wrong. Vassell would most certainly be in my plans if I were the manager.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 I think he is a reliable player, and great to have within the squad.
uconn83 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 from @jasonbourne1986 Vassell is contracted until the summer of 2012. Nice site showing the length of footballers contract and up to the date squad lists from around europe. City page here, http://m.transfermarkt.ch/en/leicester-city/startseite/verein_1003.html

City page here, http://m.transfermarkt.ch/en/leicester-city/startseite/verein_1003.html Very interesting page - also gives details of some of the players' agents. Nugent and Gallagher share the same one, which may have helped to attract the former to us. In addition, Jeffrey Schlupp apparently has Tony Yeboah (mid-1990s Leeds striker) as his agent. If he turns out to be half as lethal in front of goal we'll be in for a good season!
Guest Bilo Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 He doesn't score many but through the middle, he is an absolute pain in the arse. Quick, clever, hard working and unselfish. If we sign Maynard he won't get too many starts, but I can't imagine too many Championship centre-halves being happy to see him come on with half an hour to go.
