Webbo Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 This Sunday will be the last issue of the News of the World That's amazed me. I was only arguing with someone today that this would never happen. Expect "The Sunday Sun" to be coming out soon.
accessory Posted 7 July 2011 Author Posted 7 July 2011 With today's Matt Mills signing (especially the fee paid for him), I feel like I'm living in a revolution.
Guest MattP Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 A very good day for humanity. Shame it means a "sunday sun" - wish I could get odds on that.....
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Armando Ianucci has just tweeted: Ding dong, the c*** is dead Well it made me laugh anyway. Brand damaged beyond repair, but still surprised they've sacrificed it that quickly. Drastic damage limitation, but News International is such a f***ing huge monster they can afford to do this. Will it get worse for them? I really hope so
sdb Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Sounds great but it'll be re-imaged and everyone (the idiots that buy it now, anyway) will forget this ever happened. Still, a great moment.
Jon the Hat Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Did not expect that. These News International guys don't piss about when they see a risk to their business. As someone who is heavily involved in risk management, I have to say that is a seriously impressive response to as significant risk.

I'm enjoying it while I can. Just the Express, Sun, Daily Mail etc etc to go. (yes I am aware that only one of these is a News International publication)
hairy Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Wonder what they will change the name to? Cant see him giving up on a Sunday paper all together. I would have prefered to see the end of New International all together
accessory Posted 7 July 2011 Author Posted 7 July 2011 The most likely rebranding is The Sun On Sunday. But do News International really think we won't notice? This could end up as David Cameron's Watergate. He must really regret getting too close to Murdoch. His partners in the coalition (and indeed elements in his own party) cannot be too impressed.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Bit out of date now in light of the day's events, but thought this was a good article: http://www.spectator.co.uk/essays/7075673/what-the-papers-wont-say.thtml

Rebeckah Brooks nee Wade was considered a new labour insider, Gordon Brown even went to her wedding. Please lets not make this a party political issue.

We don't want any twats turning this into a political issue, especially the Labour party supporter twats. Truly though, this is a very sad indictment of media callousness. The NOTW, is the most rotten apple, in a barrel load of rotten apples, that will go to any lengths to get what they want, no matter who they hurt in the process.
FoxyPV Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Funny what happens when all your advertisers pull out....
Guest Bilo Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 There was a fantastic article in today's Guardian before this latest news broke. I can't link it at the moment because I'm on my Blackberry at work but the gist of it was that politicians are now finally operating without fear of Murdoch and his empire. This could finally be the last straw, where his political power is finally broken. Interesting times indeed.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Funny what happens when all your advertisers pull out.... They were apparently down to their last four, one of which was BSkyB.
Guest MattP Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Wonder what they will change the name to? Cant see him giving up on a Sunday paper all together. I would have prefered to see the end of New International all together Some very good stuff is attached to NI still, just some very vile thing too......if the whole of news international was destroyed millions would be out of work and life would be a lot less entertaining. Plus we would probably be all ****ed. Just getting rid of the Sun and NOTW would be fine.
Head Honcho Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 No, I've never bought a newspaper in my life, and the sun/notw would be bottom of my list if I did. I just disagree that everyone who buys the paper is a 'cretin', in fact, if you have the audacity to say something like that and stereotype a large section of a population just under the pretense of what newspaper they buy, I think you need to have a look in the mirror at who is the real 'cretin'. By the way i am not arguing for what the notw did, i think it's appalling. I don't think it's any coincidence that the morals and standards of folk today mirrors the standard of articles in rags like this. I stick by my original post!
John Matrix Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 what am i going to read when I'm round my nans on Sundays
Head Honcho Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 what am i going to read when I'm round my nans on Sundays How about just chatting to her?
jonthefox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 I'll miss it. The photo storys in the problem page were sometimes worthy of a tug.
Nationwider Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 thesunonsunday.co.uk and thesunonsunday.com were registered by persons unknown two days ago. 'Read all about it, read all about it...'
Nationwider Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 The world needs more Guardian/Observer love. Oh, I think the Guardian loves itself about enough for all of us right now...
