TO THE MODS

Agree with the sentiment, but do feel saddened that people don't take a bit more pride in their spelling. It really can affect the way you come across to others and people should realise that.

This mirrors my sentiments on the matter.

.............and it's Grammar not Grammer

Well i had hoped that we would get an official comment on this and a guide line.

I thank everyone for your thoughts and comments (good and bad)

I also hope that this has changed a few Attitudes towards those that are not perfect (myself included)

More comments would be good but a guide line from the site admin would be great.

:crylaugh: I'm sorry, you're seriously expecting some sort of guidelines on how people should respond to the poor spelling and grammar of others?!

What do you suggest... that we make those that offer 'unfair criticism' go and sit on the naughty step?

Dear me.

That's because there isn't an official line any comment in here by an Admin or a Mod would be a personal view. Admin/Mods are already accused of having too many rules/guidelines and have even been likened to Nazis on an other LCFC forum.

We can't have rules and guidelines for every aspect of running a forum besides many of the existing ones are ignored either through ignorance or simple bullishness and any more would make a difficult job (getting consensus) almost impossible.

Personally I don't believe it's that widespread that's not to say some people haven't been over critical but from what I can see a fair bit of the grammar 'nit-picking' is done in jest because it can create moments of humour and some of it is actually 'banter' between' friends. It does from time to time surface through frustration on the part of those whose grammar is better than most but then so do many other contentious aspects of the forum.

I think most people do just ignore it unless it makes a sentence difficult to understand or it provides some humour and in those instances you just have to accept it or grin and bear it. If it's raised as part of someone's response in a debate or argument then you should ignore them and consider yourself the victor of that debate.

On a final note I find, maybe it's age thing tongue.png I seem to be making more and more writing errors and therefore I rely heavily on the browser spell checks which leaves me at a loss as to why more people don't use them. They're a simple add on and highlight spelling mistakes as you go along and could also help to prevent repeats.

Look Bruce,

The liar part holds no water, I have said previously, perfection not required on a football forum, just reasonably legible efforts. You seem keen to revisit that point over and over, in a misinformed manner, despite my being clear from my original post on the matter. Why are you doing that?

And anyone who announces themselves the way you did as Mr Proof Reader, or was it Professional Proof Reader ? In a nit picky 'I could tear your post apart if I wanted' fashion, well, dont expect that to lead to a quiet life.

You are coming off as a real ....... here buddy. And I seem to have gotten under your skin a bit, which delights me.

wellyfox !! Look at what you have done, look at your handy work, are you proud of this? Is this what you wanted? Tell me?

 Are you being deliberately obtuse, or do you have some kind of learning disability?

So there we have it, the mighty Bruce, Professional Proof Reader, corrector of errors, bringer of order, our superior, reduced to single line insults inside a few posts.

Just out of curiosity, are your parents siblings?

Well done, you managed that one without even having to edit it. Classy insult too, never heard that before, bet nobody on here has. Original stuff.

Bruce.

I have had to Edit as clearly, I am no match for you, and your intellect. I now live in fear of your ferocious wit, and its highly innovative and never before heard barbs.

Never thought i would say this but I'm enjoying this immensely ! How about you two set up some sort of duel where you can throw pencils rubbers big thick dictionaries and silly insults at each other until one of you gives in ? I for one would pay to watch it .

Its alright Blinking Blue Owl, no need to pay, and I will even lay on a few free Chupa Choops for the fans as they take in the action. Whats your flavour Sir?

And I've got a massive, size of a small car, comedy prop pencil sharpener, which I intend to launch to clinch the bout. Its blue, Leicester blue.

I seriously can't believe this thread has grown to reach 6+ pages.

In all honesty, what grinds my gears most in terms of other people's language is the obvious use of "i" instead of "I", txtspk as well as not being able to use capitals when really needed (at the beginning of every new sentence and for special terms, such as Stockholm Farce Trophy).

Oh, and let's not forget the specialists creating new topics when there already is an existing one ON THE VERY SAME PAGE!! angry.gif

wellyfox, you might really have a writing disability, but this is the internet and I've seen way too many so-called jokers who only pretend to be burdened with a certain handicap.

I'd love to meet you at one point in order to find out more about your story.

There is correcting someone, and there is taking the piss out of someone. Sometimes there can a fine line between the two.

If I knew I had a problem with spelling then I would just install auto correct on my browser, in fact I already have it on my work computer so that I don't write anything silly to customers. It won't pick up their/there type mistakes, but at least it gets 90% of stuff.

Personally unless it's text speak, or someone writing a book without punctuation / returns, I couldn't care less how they spell.

People who correct other people's grammar or spelling, when you can clearly understand what they are trying to say, are obviously lacking substance in their personal life.

Not really, some of us get paid to do it in our day jobs. That's not to say I trawl the forum correcting every little mistake (unless it's an absolute clanger, or as part of a 'piss take' anyway) but for wellyfox to suggest there should be guidelines for how spelling/grammar mistakes are dealt with is, quite frankly, laughable.

Dear Mods

I am not the longest member on the site and enjoy most of what is posted.

banter is great i have no problem infact i do love banter.

However one thing i do find offensive is the people on here that pick up others on their grammer.

Had i wanted to read this tripe i would go on a mensa site.

My grammer is not that great does that make me thick or a bad person.

Also people have been on other sites (BCFC) to name one, came back on here and ridiculed members of that and other sites for their grammer.

Why should i and others have to come on here because we are not accademic and put up with this as members of a site for my beloved LCFC.

Also how good does this site look to anyone that visits it from another club and people on here are taking the piss out of other sites because someone can't spell or put a full stop in the wrong place.

Like i say banter is one thing taking the piss out of some one who struggles at some thing is not fun.

I myself suffered this abuse on this site a few years ago under the nick of barnsley fox and for a period left the site.

My question to you is should i suffer this and should others ?????????????????????????????????

The reason i have put this here is so everyone can see how I and praps many others who would like to join in feel.

So all you piss takers feel free to rip me.

Do they not have a dyslexics anonymous

Just kidding

But maybe in your day job spelling and grammar are more important? Does it really matter on here if someone spells the name of a footballer incorrectly (I've seen a lot of people being slagged off for that recentley - one letter out!)? Like... really?

For me this is a forum where people come to talk about football and other random stuff, and naturally there are people from different backgrounds with different educations and different lifestyles. For someone to get on their high horse and go around correcting people's spelling, having absolutely no idea about their back story is, to me, very ignorant.

And let's not roll all of these points up into one, I'd actually agree with you that there shouldn't (realistically there can't) be rules on how to Police this - I just find it unfortunate how many people seem to be encouraging it.

Come out and play,

Come out and play.

Dont be a bed wetting quitter, sat there with your balls disappeared and winky all shrivelled up now. True, you have had a bit of a roasting, a good seeing to as it were, but its not the end of the world, better men have fallen to ol' Conscript than you, no shame in that.

Come out and play.
