Haydos Posted 27 July 2011 Posted 27 July 2011 Exactly what type of midfielder is Wellens? This is where I have the issue with him. He's neither attacking nor defensive. I'd say Wellens is closest in style to someone like Scholes in his later years. He's more attack minded but does it in a deeper position and acts as a fulcrum.

I personally like Wellens and think that most of the time he's very good, but if we get Michael Johnson we are going to have one hell of s midfield line up to choose from!

Wellens can't shoot, misplaces so many passes, goes missing when we need someone to take a game by the scruff of it's neck, when was the last time he popped up with a late run into the box a la scholes? I like the Williams comparison, that's the closest we've had yet.

I have heard all the crap about 'when Wellens plays well Leicester play well', the real and absolute truth is that Wellens only played well when Leicester played well. He was a very average, underwhelming player who when the going got difficult was lazy and ineffective. We had our best 45 minutes of the season, scoring three goals ( against Watford I think ) when Wellens was substituted. Yuki Abe ran the show. Wellens best position is on the bench! This!

Scholes has always been the man nobody can touch, always has space, moves the ball onto a team mate 99/100, and he does still make runs into the box. Wellens has never done any of those things. But yeah, they do both shoot when given the chance. And they both can't tackle for shit. Back on topic, would we have to pay a fee/massive wages for Johnson?
