Robbie Keane

For those that think he is past it?! He scored 16 goals in 19 appearances for Celtic only a season ago.

Barely got a look in at Spurs for the first half of the following season and played with a woeful west ham side for the remainder of the season.

£3M for a 31 year old striker? F Off

Will be a one season wonder at most, wont be worth having next year.

Not known for being a lone striker either

Really 1 season wonder. People on here were saying earlier in the off season they wanted Phillips who is 38 and has been signed for another CCC club. We have Howard who is 35, yes not as a starter but someone that is admired by many and still can do the job. Even rumoured to be a target for other CCC clubs. i could go on about many other past 30 players, but what is the point.

In the right place and circumstance Robbie would be a starfor a number of years. Maybe Trappitoni has told Sven to go and get him, also maybe Trapp has told Robbie that a move to LCFC won't hurt his ROI chances. Play with one of his ROI team mates in St Ledger.

If we do get him it would the coup of the year.

Maybe if we were in the same sitution but 5 years ago, he's well past it and acts like a right sarky gett.

Still think he thinks abit to highly of himself to play CCC

You sir haven't got a clue. I reckon if he comes here and starts banging them in you will be the first person to be singing his praises and saying what a great signing he was.

Grow up.

I'm sure Leicester City isn't Robbie Keane's first choice either, but I think the partnership between club and player will be great for both parties. So sign him up

Three summers ago he was going for just under £20 million. He'll get goals, lots of them and I've got no doubts about that.

I still won't be sure until I hear it from a stone concrete source, but this is stacking up to look pretty good. Must say I'm very surprised.

This is happening! He was great in the SPL with Celtic.

Who cares if he only has a season or two left in him? We need a striker now to take us into the premier league. He can definitely be that man. When we get to the premier league, we will be able to get people like Long and Maynard without a problem. The goal now is to get to the premier league, once we get there we will rebuild again.

And this deal will be done in the next 48 hours......

Just kidding, just having a dig at some posters who continuously said that Long or Maynard etc were a done deal! Hope it's done in the next 48 hours !!!

When he signs he'll tell us that he's always wanted to play for Leicester City, the team he supported in Tallaght as a lad (as well as Wolves, Cov, Inter, Leeds, Tottenham, Liverpool, Tottenham (again), Celtic and West Ham).

F*** off m8

IMO He isn't the man to lead our line, we need a potential to blossom on our frontline this year, and give our players a feeling of togetherness, ready for the Prem.

Not an ageing has been, who has no point to prove by fighting through the Champ. With a personality that could break the changing room at any stress point. And the fact that if we go up with him, he won't make the first 11 next year.

He has got talent, grit and experience. Would be worth getting in on loan untill Jan with an option to buy to test his attitude and if he still has fire in his belly, but no way should we go straight in for him HUGE RISK.

Let's not get personal 'Hack'. I've only given my opinion, I've not had a go at or discredited anyone

You have outlandish statements about Keane that you couldn't possibly know. Like With a personality that could break the changing room at any stress point. And the fact that if we go up with him, he won't make the first 11 next year.

I am all for people being able to say whether they are in support or not any player, but lets try and be factual about what we are talking about, not made up conjecture to try and support a point of argument.

Where in gods name has it been said that he is a cancer in the dressing room? These are the type of statements that make yours or anyones statments look weak and frankly up for attack.

Just say you would not be happy with him because he is 31 and be done with!!

I think most on here would love him to bring what he has to Leicester, based on what they see.

lol

This really is getting pathetic.

I just don't think he's the player and personality we need. Clearly on a downward spiral and he does look quite resentfull about all that's happened with him.

I think we need young spunk with good personality ATM

And 'Hack', WTF are you going on about 'weak' and 'up for attack'? I bet you surf around forums picking arguements with all people with all your time. Go get some air mate!

Im not going on with this, I've made my points. And I hope he doesn't join on a perm anytime soon

Hi everyone, Spurs supporter here

Havent read through the whole thread but though I'd come in and comment about Robbie potentially going to you all.

Ever since he returned from Liverpool his form has been terrible. The season that saw us get into the Champions League was an alright season for him (at least the first half of it) but I think the arrival of VDV has seriously put an end to Robbie's Spurs career. Obviously Robbie plays higher up and is fitted for a 4 4 2 but to accommodate VDV in our side we have to play with a lone striker. Robbie isnt the sort of player who suits this style and its clear to see that he is no longer in Harry's plans. If WH had stayed up then we would have gotten 6 million from them and Robbie would have been off our books. Obviously having that lot in the Championship is far better to see then Robbie playing for them (even if we miss out on some of that 6 million).

The biggest issue with him and where he goes are his wages. He is one of our highest earners (65-70k a week) and this has been a stumbling block for clubs who have come in for him. IIRC Yakubu was on about 50k a week that you all picked up? Dont know if that is true or not but I read that somewhere. If this is the case then I dont see why you couldnt afford Robbie's wages, or if he took say a 10k cut in his wages to play on a regular basis.

He has hinted that he'd rather play for a PL club. QPR, Blackburn, Fulham, Villa have all been heavily linked to him and he could end up at any of those clubs. However, I think playing on a consistent basis at this point in his career might mean more to him then whether he's playing for one of those clubs or you all. I think he would light up the Championship and could definitely help in your push for Promotion. I would imagine a fee anywhere between 3-5 million will get him, although Levy is a serious penny pitcher when it comes to milking clubs for fees (part of the reason why we've struggled to bring a striker in for our own club, he wants cheap deals for top players and it just doesnt work that way.)

Thats all I've got to say at the moment. I'll check back in throughout the window to see how things develop, good luck this season.

Mixed feeling on this one. Great player but expensive, aging, and not really a lone striker.

Agree about him not being a lone striker but If we had a fluid front 3 with Keane, Nugent and Vassell/Gallagher/Schlupp I think he'd flourish

keane would be quality at this level and if it's financially viable then i'd love it to happen. i think any fan doubting his ability or questioning whether or not they'd like him here needs their head looking at. he's a proven, quality goalscorer.
