FoxTrott Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Now I know I keep on harping on about Peter Odimwingie here are his latest developments, I hope Sven has eye on this one http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7102496,00.html Skysports.com understands Peter Odemwingie's talks regarding a new contract at West Bromwich Albion have stalled. The Nigeria international enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League last term and finished as the Baggies' top scorer. His exploits have seen the striker linked with several clubs during the summer and Wigan Athletic had a £1.5million bid rejected before the weekend. Baggies boss Roy Hodgson laughed off the size of the Latics' offer and confirmed he is hoping to secure Odemwingie on a new deal at The Hawthorns. However, it is understood those negotiations have reached an impasse, with Newcastle United also showing an interest in the 30-year-old. Odemwingie missed West Brom's opening game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday through injury and Hodgson insisted after the 2-1 defeat that the former Lokomotiv Moscow forward is not for sale. I would absolutely blow a metaphorical load if we signed Peter Odemwingie, but I don't think it will happen. 15 in 32 on the wing for West Brom (their top goal scorer)? The only reason he will have stalled is either a) more money or b) more money. He's a Premiership player and as much as I'd love to see him here, not happening.

Sven's comments said we offered more money for Shane Long, if Odimwingie wants more cash safe bet is we would offer it I would have thought
dannythefox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Well if you don't try and make contact you will never know, however I seem to remember that Odimwingie was on a trip to Thailand with Sven who knows Hey its worth a try but wouldn't get your hopes up
Happy Fox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 If we can match Odimwingie's ambitions, yes he would have to sacrifice one season in the champ, but my word if we get him it would be a masterstroke :sge: get on to it please. Get real people. Were you saying that when we got the Yak?

Were you saying that when we got the Yak? Yak was bench warming and out of favour.... not really much of a comparison sadly.

Were you saying that when we got the Yak? The Yak wasn't in Everton's starting 11 so while yes I was surprised we got him I could see that it was realistic. Odemwingie plays week in, week out at WBA and is one of their top 2 or 3 players - he's never going to come to the champ - why would he? Still, I'll happily eat humble pie if I'm wrong. I hope I am.
Happy Fox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Yak was bench warming and out of favour.... not really much of a comparison sadly. Fair enough but I still stand by my comments about Odimwingie well worth to pursue
accessory Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Fair enough but I still stand by my comments about Odimwingie well worth to pursue Simon Cox would be a better option. He's behind Odimwingie and Long in West Brom's pecking order and unlikely to start many games there this season.
Happy Fox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Simon Cox would be a better option. He's behind Odimwingie and Long in West Brom's pecking order and unlikely to start many games there this season. I would prefer Odimwingie If I am honest, contract is stalled with WBA perfect opportunity to make contact and offer him the wages he wants, he would be well worth it imo
Hack Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 From the Mirror today: Harry Redknapp is weighing up a move for West Brom star Peter Odemwengie as a replacement for Peter Crouch; I truely doubt there is a chance in hell that Odemwengie would cosider a move to the championship. He is waiting for his big pay day in the Premier League either from WBA or more likely the reason he has not signed an extension from the likes of Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool, all of whom have been mentioned in regard to him. This one is purely a dream not reality.

Hence the need to at least act now and try and offer him good wages instead of doodling about, yes I know it would be difficult to entice him, the same as Keane although admit-tingly we almost had him then LA Galaxy came in.
Libertine Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 The only reason he'll leave West Brom is for someone bigger. And right now we're not. No matter the money. Quite sure WBA will be offering quite a decent amount anyway.
Tielemans63 Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Sven-Goran Eriksson says it will be tough to persuade Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane to drop into the Championship. "We can compete with Championship clubs but, when a player decides to go to the Premier League it is difficult" Tomorrow Sven reveals that the sky is blue but sometimes grey and that 4 is less than 5. Cutting edge journalism from the Merc.
Dicko Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Odemwingie to LCFC is This x 1000 If he leaves WBA it will be to go to a bigger club. Spurs would seem logical as they need a striker. Back to planet earth people....
Dicko Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Oh yeah, and coming back to the subject of the thread: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/08/15/2620716/ireland-captain-robbie-keane-completes-initial-22m-switch Looks like Keane has signed for LA Galaxy. To be honest even if he hadn't I don't think he would come here.
Toffee_Fox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Why are people even considering Odemwengie? absolute non-starter

WHAT!! He is not coming here!! Why would we waste time playing games offering him a contract he wont accept. Let him play it out with the PL teams that are interested. Happy, its good to be always optimistic, but, please lets not be silly.
Dicko Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Apparently Andy Keogh is available for loan from Wolves - Leeds are in for him. It could be worth us trying to hijack that move. He's decent in the air and can hold the ball up, and is a good finisher as well at this level.

Happy Fox Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Andy Keogh is rubbish anyway he is not coming here off to Leeds done deal http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20110815/striker-keogh-returns-to-leeds_2247585_2420682?
Dicko Posted 15 August 2011 Posted 15 August 2011 Oh, didn't realised he'd signed for them already. Let's get a bid in for Tevez then....
