I think John Carew is a free agent. :chant:

i said this the other day till ppl started slating me telling me he is to slow i think ppl forge we are in the championship, any way think west ham are about to sign him so this one is over

Sounds like Carew to West Ham is progressing nicely for them.

I know what people will say about him being overpriced, and us being held to ransom, but I will still push the boat out for Maynard as our main striker. Get a bid accepted at the end of the window (Even if it's 6m - Cheaper than long), then offer him a contract where he can leave next season IF we don't get promoted BUT with a minimum release clause of the amount we payed for him. Then if the worst happens and we don't get promoted and Sven leaves, he can have his wish and move on to a premier league club if one wants him, but we get the money back?

Gives him the incentive to go out and score 20+ goals to either get us promoted, or engineer a premier league move next summer.

I remember seeing Jacques Maghoma for Burton last season, excellent player took a Chesterfield defence a part last season, Sadly not a striker but!, put him up front with Nugent & we will see a few goals :chant:

I'm less convinced that we need one. None of the names we've been linked with scored yesterday, so having any of them is hardly gaurenteed goals.

Nugent may surprise us all and get 20 goals this season.

I'd say they have all deliberately played shite, so as to make the transition a little more palatable to their current fans, and a little incentive to their manager's to get them sold quick like. ;)

Having only listened to yesterdays game, an allowing for the fact we only had 10 men for the last 80 mins, I think a quick mobile forward is key but he doesn't have to be a goal machine. From what I heard and how I understood stringers commentary, the candidates for goals were coming all over the pitch, we need a striker that can play in the top 3 that will create. So I don't mind who comes in as I think all the strikers mentioned could do this job.

I also think we will see 2 front men come in before the end of august.

He got sent off after 10 mins.

True point, but now I assume he's out for 3 games?! Squad depth in that area is lacking. That's more the point I was aiming at.

If Maynard or Long don't join our rostrum, I can see Sven forking out for an average striker and bringing a decent Premiership striker in on loan. There'll be plenty to choose from, so if neither of the main two targets we are looking at don't come to fruition, then I'm not that concerned. Sven will find an alternative. The Chairman has stated we will not be held to ransom. I think he's right.

Yes it'd be great if we had a great goalscorer on a perm deal, but as above there'll be other options. Chins up lads (and ladies)!

Think this is pretty much what will happen, of those players we seem to have bid for, i wouldn't be surprised if Long ends up at WBA, Maynard at WHU, and Bochum stick to their principle of keeping Jong Taese. With Miller signing for the trees and the Yak seemingly no longer an option, and of course Sharp who could have been an alternative crocked, the options to buy are pretty limited. Didn't think missing out on CMS would be an issue, but the longer this rumbles on the more I just wonder if bizarrely our achilles heel this year will come from our attacking options....

Would love to see us sign maynard for 5m Jong for 2-2.5m and maybe a cheeky bid for le fondre about 350-500k and maybe sending waghorn on loan the other way just to tempt them to sell even more

i think we should try a cheeky bid for the forgotten Germany international Lukas Podolski 1 fc koln bought him for £10mil a few season back, season just gone they ended up bottom half of the table and he scored 14 in a team worse than ours

Has anyone considered the realistic option of CraigBellamy. Could be used out wide instead of Vassell and/pr Gallagher or down the centre with Nugent. Class act big wages though (loan deal perhaps?) Been told to move on by Mancini.

Seems more realistic than Podolski (Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are interested for fooks sake) Adebayor , Keane Long and Johnson are looking for Premiership or top flight football. Need someone on the way down like Bellamy or way up like Le Fondre.

Also can anyone confirm if we have given up hope on Matt Derbshire...looks a decent player and still young?

Ireneusz Jelen is a free agent. If he didn't have his back problems, he would probably be playing for top clubs in England or Spain. This guy is pure class!

Taken from his OS:

IREK

June 30, I became a free agent, and from four weeks I practice individually. On Monday, visited my physiotherapist Rafal and I train at full speed. I did not think about that for some time to train in a club, I believe that with Rafal prepare the appropriate form. It is known that train yourself differently, and differently with the team, but I feel better. I try to be in good shape and I am waiting for a phone call from the agent.

:sge:, sign him up!

I like it. But doubt it will happen. He would be perfect.
