Today's referee

I expected him to be rubbish, as he always is.

I think he was the man who sent off Wellens against Newcastle a few years ago when Routledge dived.

No. A dangerous tackle is a dangerous tackle. Where do you draw the line?

Exactly... Where do you draw the line? The game is either contact or non contact. If it's going to be a contact sport you have to accept there will always be an element of risk and mistakes will be made.

He was bad and dishing out yellows left and right (mostly Leicester players, though) made him look like he was simply eager to steal the limelight.

I don't know why it is that too many referees still think they need to be the centre of attention.

The sign of a good referee is when you don't notice him at all and only then when it matters.

Deadman and his fellows are miles away from that status.

Yeah the ref was shocking

But the lego-head linesman on the dugout side was appalling! He had no idea what he was doing!!!!

The referee was Darren Deadman, and everytime he refs someone always makes a thread on him lol

Yeah I thought straight away that Vassell should have gone, but quite a few people around me seemed convinced that they heard him make contact with the ball. The replays should clear that up one way or the other though.

Oh so that makes it ok then? lol:rolleyes::mellow:

Coincidence? :dunno:

For the record both reds were reds, but he was shite for every other decision, no doubt you'll disagree though.

Gallagher gets carded for 'time-wasting' not giving the ball back to their keeper, fair enough, however, their keeper blasts the ball into the stands in anger when we got a corner late on, he doesn't even get a talking to, DB11 explain....

(That's just one example of many)

Half the free-kicks were soft as fook, there really was no need for a fair few of those given.

With regards to the red cards, I didn't initally think they were, but I would like to see replays again before making further comment.

In fairness to the ref though, he was at least consistent in that he treated both tackles the same, and that is something which you can't really argue with.

I do agree he was consistent... consistently fookin appalin!!!!

I don't exaggerate when I say that today's reffing performance is possibly the worst I have ever seen since supporting city. ANY physical contact was met with a sharp blast of the refs whistle. The sendings off should have been yellows... Gallaghers yellow for throwing the ball up in the air was not matched by Joe murphys blatant kicking away of the ball when we got a corner.

Is this the face of things to come with referees? Have they been told to reduce the game to a non contact sport?

Today's ref was an absolute fookin disgrace and it was clear that he wanted to 'stamp his authority' right from the start. Ok this was a local derby game but the twat completely went over the top.

Comments please....

Totally agree, twat just wanted to get his name up in lights on sky sports with the early kick off, I thought Cov were like schoolkids at times, shirt pulling and generally falling hard under soft challenges, but the ref bought every single one, a shocking display, I cannot believe how these guys are elevated to championship/premiership levels based on displays like today.

I thought Vassel went in one footed, slightly late and caught the player with his studs up although his foot wasn't high. Could have seen either a red or a yellow IMO, but the ref litterally ran to the incident & couldn't have dealt with it any faster if he'd wanted to. He did the same with their red too, but for me Wellens sold it to the ref & he was probably looking to even it up. I thought he had a shocker, he looked out of his depth.

I was out myself today on the line so cannot possibly comment. The only thing I know of the game is the video in the OP and the comments I've read on the forum. From what you say, it sounds unfair and inconsistent... but whether that's what happened :dunno:

NB: From the video ofc both challenges were SFP and therefore a dismissal

I think he was the man who sent off Wellens against Newcastle a few years ago when Routledge dived.

Actually that was Andre Marriner. The worst thing Marriner did that day was let Ryan Taylor get away with a chest high kung-fu challenge on Waghorn. He gave a throw-in as I recall.

Deadman is always shit though. It doesn't help that he has such a recognisable name, so I always remember his performances. And they're always rubbish.

I do think he got both red cards right though.

I've seen Darren Deadman officiate a few times for us, and he has almost always been woeful. One that stands out is Bristol Rovers at home in the League One season, where he missed at least two stonewall penalty calls in front of the Kop.

Not a great referee.

Fell a bit sorry for these refs... if they go by the book by who they are employed by, they get promotion to higher leagues... if they go against the book the FA sends them back down leagues even if it favours the fans

Vassell, whilst making an attempt for the ball, 100% red card all day. Studs up, above ankle height, no complaints. Vassell protest? no. Bakers sending off, i actually thought borderline. There was some inconsistencys with the brandishing of cards, but they only humans! Calling the referree all names under the sun is inappropriate though, we aint calling Vassell are we??

im absolutely dumbfounded that such a twat can officiate at a game at this level. Talk about the letter of the law... I sincerely hope that football does not become so sterilised in this way that it becomes ridiculous

He found out before the match that Sven had made a woman out of his wife.
