DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Definitely not. I'm very suprised at some of the video I've seen of police standing by watching (in the first 48 hours). They must have been ordered not to act because they could have sorted alot of this trouble out quickly. I bet they were raring to go aswell and alot of them are probably just as puzzled as the rest of us as to why they were held back. I read this line somewhere else and I agree after watching some of the videos, "It's like the looters had a police escort with the added bonus of a chance of an interview on primetime TV". Do you not think that; The police were heavily outnumbered here and to try and go in an arrest groups would have left them exposed? There was a feeling of - go on, get yourself nicked, we're tapping it and will find you? The police were conscious they had lots of press with them and the camera phone element and they didn't want to be seen to be beig heavy handed (or at least until the public have begun demanding it.) They didn't want t o give any reason for race to be dragged into the equation?
Charl91 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 yes but this isnt what the other fella was arguing about was it, he was saying it was all due to upbringing and background when obviously it isnt I disagree. I would say it is all up to upbringing and background. Just because you were born into a rich family, it doesn't mean you were taught key values like working hard, respect and not stealing shit from shop windows. I know people born into poor familys that I go to uni with that are nice, sensible guys, and rich people who are utter dicks. You're mistaking upbringing with being rich, it's not the same thing. Almost everyone in this country is "well off" - they just don't realise it. If you think you're not, go live in Somalia, Iraq or Africa. Some place where they don't have clean water or food. Then try telling me you're not well off because you can only afford to buy one packet of fags a week with the money you get off the government and your TV only has 5 channels.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Does anyone ever change their opinions in these 'online arguements'? No, but it's fun trying isn't it? (unless you can convince me otherwise)
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Get in, Great to hear. Opening weekend of the premiership - I imagine it would take a lot to call a halt to that!
FazzaF Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Opening weekend of the premiership - I imagine it would take a lot to call a halt to that! Jesus I forgot it started this saturday. I agree too. And even in the Championship it must be a big call to postpone the game
21st Century Fox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Opening weekend of the premiership - I imagine it would take a lot to call a halt to that! Mr Murdoch would not have been pleased. He must have been very conflicted, scaremonger and sell more papers and sh!te news or show football on sky. Football obviously makes more money for him.
acooling08 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 That black kid having a go at Boris was 100% correct.
BoneDog Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Can anyone remember Bad Lads Army? A brilliant program which actually worked for the majority Yeah that was my favourite programme on tele of the year when it first came out! The two sergeants were brilliant (and funny aswell), a Scottish one and think the other is a cockney.
Narborough Bod Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 In terms of the initial police response does anyone else believe that, had they initially been heavy handed and waded in, the whole 'Mark Duggan' protest / riot could have been much worse. My fear would have been an escalation far worse than anything we've seen, with pitch battles, deaths and a move from social deprivation riots to racist / anti establishment fighting. I'd almost go as far as to say that whoever told them to hold back gas done a good job. The rioters now have no sympathy from the public and are unable to hide behind some false crusade of justice.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 #robnixoncity: Self proclaimed leader of #Leicester EDL has been arrested for failing to disperse from the City Centre. 2 minutes ago. EDL were there last night and tonight too by the sound of it.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Jesus I forgot it started this saturday. I agree too. And even in the Championship it must be a big call to postpone the game Of course had they been pre-warned of this, the clubs would have stayed where they were for pre-season and the Prem would have got itsmgame 39 idea off and running - but that is another debate completely.
BoneDog Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 It's all part of Cam's plan to get a mandate from the people to bring about martial law, blame the Queen, (who will mysteriously disappear following riots in St James Park), viciously seize control of the armed forces, name himself Supreme Ubermarshell Eternal and form a totalitarian state called Camerlot. You heard it here first! Unfortunately for Cam he is nowhere near high enough up the pyramid of power to be able to pull that off! He's just a measly PM, they're nothing.

I still think it was more to do with the fact that had they used heavy handed tactics against our own people, our reason for taking sides in foreign conflicts would look ridiculous and leave us open to all sorts of political and moral assaults.
MikeyT Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Leicester City Police 10pm - #police officers continue to provide reassurance patrols in #leicester city, #leicestershire and #rutland. These officers are taking proactive action to prevent further incidents of disorder. During the course of this evening officers have arrested 10 people. There has been no disorder
FoxyPV Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Love it. It would have been better if he'd walked out with Nick Clegg under his arm.

Not at all, we wouldn't have shot hundreds dead, we would have instead sprayed water cannons, threw tear gas and gone in with truncheons. This constant comparison with the Middle East protests is just ridiculous, not comparable at all.

This constant comparison with the Middle East protests is just ridiculous, not comparable at all. I'm not saying we'd use equal force as they did. But forcible putting down our own people infront of the whole world while engaged in a conflict with another country for a similar reason doesn't look at all good and give us little or no moral high ground when trying to quash Gaddafi. Middle Eastern propaganda would and have to a certain extent jump on it. Just for the near inexplicable reasons for the riots themselves.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Urgh. Right not sure if I saw the same interview or not but I did see a young white lad condoning the looting, and illegal things happening, yes he was a cockend. I'm not sure if it was the same interview because he wasn't blaming the Poles or unemployment or anything, however I find you're post not offending (because if I did i'd be just as bad as the do-gooder, PC twats of the world) but annoying and in my eyes wrong, and we've been through the arguement before, right, Poles/Foreign workers. I lost my job, I was made redundant, before I was made redundant I worked with Poles, They knew fuck all to do with the job - They didn't even have any kit (tools) when they first came, now I ain't gonna claim I personally taught them everything to do the job because I didn't, but I taught them bits, I showed them how to do certain jobs, anyway I was made redundant, out of work for 3 months, I always thought if they wanted to employ anyone within 6 months of making someone redundant they had to offer the job to you, well 3 months to the day after I was made redundant they employed a load of Poles, Poles I had help learn how to do the job, I went to Citizen Advice and asked and they said you had 3 months to appeal against redundancy. It took me a year and a half to get back in perminent work. Now don't get me wrong put me in the manager/company owners shoes, Would I employ someone who is paid £2 - 3 more an hour to do the same job as someone on £2 - 3 less? No, of course not, it's business, however the Poles can afford to work for £2 - 3 less because did I tell you the company I worked for provided house and transport for the Poles, and they didn't have any friends or family to go home to? Not the Poles fault, Not the company's fault, but they been allowed to get away with it and at the end of the day I went to college for 3 years, they waltz in learn from us lads who have been forced to go through college and get our pieces of paper, now see if an English lad who not qualifications, no certificates to do with the job can get the same job and learn on the job, I think they'd struggle unlike the foreign workers i've encountered in the past. Don't get me wrong I get along quite well with the Poles I think some of them are quite a laugh, I've even gone out on the piss with them in the past, but are you telling me the point i've raised are wrong, and not a factor towards unemployment in the UK? N/B - Not blaming foreign workers, companies, I'm blaming the people who have let them get away with it, I also don't agree with the lad you were originally talking about, but I am commenting because you have bought foreign workers up. Matt, I can understand the sensitivities of the subject for you given your circumstances, but I wasn't cheerily mentioning foreign workers for no reason and throwing some sort of bizarre out of context leftist curveball into the mix to wind everyone up. Having interrupted someone else being interviewed, the bloke I'm talking about says everyone should go mental. and when asked why he's doing it he says something along the lines of 'it's because of all the Poles they let in',, without explaining how that relates to his circumstances and with no conviction whatsoever, as if plucked from the air as an afterthought or an opinion borrowed from someone else. The point I was making is that the bloke is such a div that his employment prospects are probably pretty dire without any competition from anyone, foreign or otherwise - on the evidence of the footage, a box of Coco Pops would have a better CV than him. I wasn't commenting on the rights or wrongs of workers coming from overseas. I'm far too lazy to get into debates like that one

How has this country become dominated by these idiots?
Narborough Bod Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 He's just been on again, Manchester must be so proud of him. Oh, and it's 'the f#*king poles'.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 What a fine specimin she is. And a fine role model to her kids, which brings us back to the debate me and 21st century fox was having with Lcfc80! Shame he's in bed.
