Don't know whether anyone has seen this mornings mercury yet? An article on the back page with Robbie Nielsen stating 'leicester city will face a battle to keep hold of new sensation Jeff Schlupp'

Nothing like putting a good young player under pressure is there?

We might be facing a harder battle if in "battling for his place" and earning it, he's sent out on loan again.

We lost Gradel cos we didn't play him, we got relegated because Holloway didn't play King and we'd be idiots not to keep Schlupp involved. Schlupp or Waghorn, Howard, Vassell as an attacker? It's not even a serious question. Even compared with Nugent, King and Gallagher he's got attributes that are missing from our team right now that they haven't got.

Even if we buy/borrow a genuinely top striker (which seems less and less likely the more the names appear to be desperation measures) we still need Schlupps, pace, mobility, movement and ability to finish.

I don't remember King, Gradel, Stearman or even other youth players letting us down prticularly (even Weso was just unlucky with injuries) when they came into our side, so why the seemingly bigger, stronger Schlupp should be any different I don't know.

Having watched most of our new signings, Fernandes is the only one who looks even marginally exciting. But even he doesn't offer the qualities Schlupp's got. I bet there's plenty out there wouldn't want to loan him out if he was their player.

I totally agree.

On Tuesday night, there was a time where Schlupp got a loose ball coming out from a corner, he glided past one player and knocked the ball past another defender on the halfway line before getting taken out. He reminded me a lot of the highlights ive seen of Julian Joachim in his city days. Such an exciting player! His pace is frightening. Start him on Saturday Sven!

Im yet to see Schlupp play so can't pass any meaningful judgement yet.

However, I can't agree with you over our lack of exciting players... Nugent, with assistance looks like he can create and take chances... Danns, with time, can be an exciting talent. And, IN THE CORRECT CIRCUMSTANCES, wellens can be an exciting player by picking out a pass to unlock a defence.

You do seem very premature this season Thracian in your pessimism of Svens signings and game plan.. Give it time...

the problem is that those circumstances often don't happen and he just slows us down or gives the ball away trying something ridiculous or a stupid flick when a simple pass is the easier & better option

We "lost" Gradel because he was a bad influence to our team at the time and he was hanging around with the wrong people.

We sold him to Leeds, his distractions where gone look how he's turned out, shame it couldn't of been for us.

Playing King in our relegation season would of been a bad move, Pearson was right to bring him in during our league one campaign.

...

Is that true? First I heard of that. He was/is young and had terrible time with the loss of his mother. He was shipped off to Leeds because Pearson didn't know what to do with a flair player and the fans expect all our attackers to double up as burly defenders.

100% agree, just watched the highlights, reminded me of an 18 yr old Joachim who burst into the city side with absolutely no inhibitions, almost fearless, his movement looked fantastic whereas Waggy looks like he's carrying too much timber. Would absolutely love to see this guy get some time on saturday.

Is indeed, someone posted it who's ITK on here. Possibly knowitall(sadly left know due to, too many dicks on here because he got the Simon Cox transfer wrong sames happened to Bert) or Bert him self.

Both were credit to the forum. Nice to know abit of inside information. Shame people have to ruin it.

If schlupp is good enough, he's old enough and should be played. We're not man city or man utd who can loan out players with the knowledge that the lure of the chance to play at the very highest level means they aren't likely to be taken by another club. If we're not careful, we won't see him play as he'll go out on loan, undoubtedly do well and be snapped up by a bigger club than leicester.

As a fan I want to see this type of player playing at city whilst we can because if he is as good as he looks, he'll be snapped up in a year or so by someone like Villa even if we get promoted.

Charlton boss facing tough deal to persuade Foxes on Schlupp

CHRIS Powell has acknowledged it will be difficult to convince Leicester City to allow Jeffrey Schlupp to join Charlton on loan.

The 18-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to The Valley in recent weeks but those hopes were dashed on Tuesday when he scored a hat-trick for the Foxes in their 4-1 League Cup win over Rotherham.

Leicester boss Sven Goran-Eriksson says he wants to keep the youngster at the Walkers Stadium, dashing hopes of an imminent move to The Valley.

Powell said: “He is a very good young player, who obviously I know well, but he is at a Championship club scoring goals.

“Clubs won’t release players like that if they are scoring goals in their first team, so we will have to wait and see on someone like him and other players we are linked with.

“We are more governed by their clubs if they’re going to be someone who will come in on loan.

“It will be governed by them because it is not up to us, it is up to them when and if they are going to release them.”

Schlupp has no more chance of starting on Sat than I have - he was great at Rotherham in the 2nd half against a poor back four who were totally knackered.

He is going to be some player so lets not get rush him- couple of games coming off the bench against tired defenders will be fine to start with - 90 mins in the cup game at Bury and then lets see how he has progressed. Championship defenders will struggle against his pace so they will stop him other ways ie kick him off the park - let him develop his physique and strength before asking him to tackle some of the animals also known as centre halves - if Matt Mills was marking him what do you think would happen in the first 50/50 challenge ?

His time will come and in Sven we trust

If Schlupp isn't on the bench then it's criminal.

Only 18 yes but you can see he already has a good football brain, is in prime fitness, and already attracting interest.

Sub only for the moment though because the lad doesn't need the pressure that he would undoubtedly attract and should be eased in.

I know it was lower league opposition but i'm trying hard to think of another player in our team who could have scored a hat trick on that night.

I'm not the least bit pessimistic. Signing good reliable professionals is not the same as signing exciting footballers. At Coventry, even though we played boring, fairly negative football I commented that Coventry didn't look like they'd ever score and the win seemed relatively comfortably achieved. I just got no pleasure out of watching it other than for the three points.

Wellens frustrates rather than excites me. Times he sqeezes through into a reasonable position and then fails to shoot or shoots dreadfully. He's okay at times but I don't get a buzz of expectation when he gets the ball. As for Nugent I'm quite sure he can create and take chances he won't do much good at all without support and when he does he appears to be a functional footballer rather than an exciting one.

I've watched Schlupp for years and he seems to get better every time. But what he's always had is, like Gradel, the ability to make something happen however hopeless the situation might seem. And that's because he's forever asking defenders awkward questions by putting them under pressure with his pace and naturally positive play. As a footballer, while many players just move us from a to b Schlupp is forever looking to do whatever will hurt the opposition most.

Dont see why he cant start on Saturday or at least be on the bench , I can remember the likes of Rooney ,Owen and Walcott being involved in they're respective teams (league action ) at a very early age in their careers , wether he compares to the likes of those players only time will tell but seriously hope he gets on the pitch at some time.

A fotballer's life is about pressure. The sooner he gets it the sooner he'll cope with it. He hardly seems the fragile sort.

You don't know what Sven's going to do.

I don't think he should start tomorrow.

Give him a rip when their defence tires and see how he does against quality competitivley
