kingfox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Wouldn't be surprised if some lazy journo posted that Man Utd and Arsenal are tracking the services of Leicester City striker Jeffrey Schlupp in tomorrow's sun or whatever. Just like they did with Reneil Sappleton and look where that went
topharry123 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 When you bag a hat trick mid week i think you earn a start at the weekend. Sounds like he had a good game, will be interesting to see how he performs against a higher standard of opposition,

Sounds like he had a good game, will be interesting to see how he performs against a higher standard of opposition, Yeah, when the game you bagged a hat-trick in is again League opposition; not Rotherham. Put him on the bench and he'l b very happy about getting 30-20 against Reading. Start him up front as the lead and he might start to think to highly of himself, as he's still a very young lad. Could be the rising of a star were watching, really happy for him. Just hope Sven can convince him to be English
Thracian Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Yet again you seem to expect the earth from a youngster. Schlupp may have done well tonight and on loan at Brentford last season but to throw him straight into the starting line-up on Saturday against one of the forerunners in this division is not wise, it will only serve to increase the pressure on him. Start him on the bench and give him 20-25 minutes at the end to ease himself into playing at this division. I don't "expect" anything. I've described his abilities - apparent for years - and have asked who anyone would leave him out for given that we haven't got a functioning striker of any kind, partly because we haven't signed one and partly because the ones we have used have been isolated. Schlupp would be under no more pressure than anyone else - and has been her far longer than most. He's not some fragile kid who's had no football and he certainly didn't seem any more naive or vulnerable than the rest last night. Someone's referred to what happened to Gradel but the problem with him was in playing it was in not playing him and Pearson showing no faith in him whatsoever. But Schlupp isn't Gradel anyway. He's a completely different person and footballer.. Schlupp has earned and deserves his place on merit and while I might well accept your argument if we'd got anyone to do the things he does - which we're missing so dreadfully - but we don't have such players. King and Gallagher don't bring the same qualities to a game, though either might benefit from playing off him, and Nugent, a better player han he's shown so far,, had a fairly simple chance at Coventry from about 12 yards and fluffed it completely. So much for experience. If Schlupp was to do badly I doubt it would not be due to inexperience. Reading will pose a far sterner test to everyone - and there were senior players at Rotherham who didn't look too hot - and the other problem would likely be the lack of support from midfield cos that's was what snokered Nugent, Gallagher and King on Saturday and it was equally apparent against Real Madrid.
Babylon Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Well Darius is suspended, so he will either take his place, or take the place of the person on the bench who takes his place.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=450&fid=215&sty=2&act=1&mid=2116677912 The first line of the 20th post makes me laugh. lol lol Really made me laugh. Nice find!
STUHILL Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 I don't think it comes down to if he is ready for Saturday. It's more of a case of who else do we have at the moment?? At first I thought he should start on the bench but then again, with his confidence sky high and the lack of other options we have for a direct, fast striker, why the hell not?? Put your faith in him Sven!!!
darko2k7 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Brilliant! Can I request a slight change before it becomes his chant throughout his career though: "The only way is Schlupp baby for Leicester City" May it ring around the ground on Saturday And may i suggest you change the word "baby" for "Jeffrey"
Sexylady1 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Schlupp was outstanding last night, I don't see there being any harm in giving him a chance at championship level. What's the worst that can happen? At very least he should be on the bench. Come on you blues!
Ric Flair Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 In my opiion he'll never be more confident or relaxed than right now after a hat-trick on his debut. It also takes his tally to 9 goals in professional football in about 10 starts, he's on the rip. As we haven't bought a new striker in yet and Vassell is suspended he has a chance to really stake a claim and Sven should give him the chance to shine. I can see him starting against Reading and so he should do.

h1210 Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 The only way is Schlupp baby for you and me now the only way is Schlupp! Also, on a serious note, the only way is 442! Surely it has to be Jeffrey, Jeffrey Schlupp to KC & The Sunshine Band - Baby Give It Up
Guest Bilo Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 There aren't enough footballers called Jeffrey. That's reason enough to give him a chance. JEEEEFFREY, JEEEEEFFREY, JEEEEEFFREY!
Guest Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 watching him yesterday this lad is a natural goal scorer. He needs someome to feed off and some service from the wing and if he gets that the sky's the limit. The lad's a natural.

I can see him starting against Reading and so he should do. I can too. It's more or less a toss up between him and Waghorn, and after last night Schlupp should have more than enough behind him to stake his claim. It'd be a bold move from Sven if he did decide to hand him his shot, but I think it's one he should go for. An under-confident Waghorn or Schlupp, who's now bagged almost one a game in his professional career?
Father Ted Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Vassell = 4 goals in 32 games. Schlupp = 3 goals in 1 game. Says it all to me... Vassell is nothing but a headless chicken with no end product, nothing more than a squad player but Sven loves him to bits. Give Schlupp an extended run in the team instead of Vassell!
Webbo Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Walcott was playing in Soton's first team at 17, that Camberlaine(spelling?) is around the same age as Schlupp. While Vassell is suspended and Waghorn doing nothing against the same Rotherham side that Schlupp scored against he has to be the obvious choice. I don't know if he'll succeed but I don't believe it'll ruin his career if he doesn't.
FazzaF Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Would love too see him play against Reading this weekend. Could be the answer to are "Striker Crisis"
glen parva fox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Let's go with what we have and don't be held to ransom, this boys class, stick him in, young with hunger who needs another striker.
dannythefox Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Would be nice to see him along side Nugent he could learn a lot from him. Very good last night hopefully he will get rewarded on Saturday he deserves it start with him and Nugent or have him on the bench instead of Waghorn and give 25 mins later in the game.

Personally I think he should start, he earned that right regardless of who we were playing; it was a competitive game at the end of the day. But on the other hand he is only 18 so maybe it might be too much giving him a start. I'd say either give him the first hour or ensure he gets 30 minutes at the end. He's probably not going to last a whole season playing every game because of his age, stamina and experience at this point so we need to tread carefully to bring him along in the right way. As another poster said, look at Hernandez at United. Didn't play a full game every game but still bagged plenty of goals and kept going all season. Maybe we need to do the same with JS and try and nurture his talents in the same way.
Jimmy Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 what would Heskey of done if MON had the attitude of "he's too young" when he was only 17 and debuted? If he's good enough, which seemingly he is, then he is old enough
MikeyT Posted 10 August 2011 Posted 10 August 2011 Sven-Goran Eriksson backed Jeff Schlupp to make a big impact for City this season, after the teenage striker's hat-trick saw off Rotherham in the Carling Cup. Schlupp, 18, became the first Foxes player since 1945 to hit a debut treble, putting the Millers to the sword after Paul Gallagher had wiped out Matt Mills' early own-goal at the Don Valley Stadium. And while refusing to put pressure on his prodigious young forward, Eriksson insisted the German youth international could well have a role to play in City's bid to reach the Premier League.
