I wanna book a table at a curry house for a group. Wheres best?

I've been feast india a fair bit, but I think you tend to over eat at buffet and enjoy it less at the end. Someone has reccommended The Tiffin restaurant on London Road...

Little India in Arnesby is very good, it's sister restaurant, Dine India at Countesthorpe is also very good. They're two of the four that have been chosen to represent Leicester at the Restaurant Awards. The only downside is that they're a bit of trek out of the City.

The Tiffin is nice, but I found it a touch expensive.

We're pretty damn lucky. Must be some of the very best curries outside India in this city.

Very true, only place i've been that equals it is Brick Lane.

We've been going to the 'Grand Du Bar' on Melton Road for over 20 years and never had a bad meal.

Anyone else been there?

Very nice there, quality food all the time

Had some guy in Swansea telling me the same thing the other day, our city is famous for something.

From an Indian i'd say Shimlas or 4550 miles to Delhi as it now is on London Road near the train station is quality. Tiffin is expensive and wank.

I thought Shimlas had gone for good?

I had a curry in Liverpool a few weeks back and one of the waiters asked me where I was from because I don't sound that scouse, and I told him Leicester. It was as if I was actually Indian, he was like "we'll try our best to get everything tasting how you're used to it" or something, it was weird.

Still not even close to anything I've ever had in Leicester, curries are up their with home matches as the main reasons I come to Leicester!

Went to Ashas in Birmingham Saturday night - truly incredible food....... for a starter and a main you'll be needing at least 40 notes though.

Swatlands in Oadby or Sands in Glenfield.

Sands is quality - been there a couple of times.

Can also recommend the following:

Curry Fever, Belgrave Road

Mem Saab, Highcross (though it's a tad expensive)

Laguna, Narborough Road

T & K Balti House, Green Lane Road (though you'll have to buy your own booze from the off-licence next door).

Nila Palace, London Road

Ashoka Tandoori, Melton Road

Mem Saab is a no no for me, to expensive and not close enough to a home made indian meal!

The Blues pub in Oadby have got a new menu and it is foxing great. tastes really nice and good variety. they have nice beer too (which makes a change as most Indian restaurants have crap beer)

Kinda strange comment if you ask me. You don't go to any other type of restaurant and hope to get home style cooking, you expect much, much better! Otherwise there is no point going out!? :dunno:

Phube, i hear what youre saying, but most indian restaurants that i go to serve oily foods.

My mum makes the best Indian food, so i would apreciate home away from home food!

The one in Arnesby is good that used to be a pub on the corner..

Spice42 or 52 in Narborough is good also, as is the one in Cosby.. I just signed up for 50% discount card for 12 months on main meals.. Means we can have a quality take away for about £11... Poppadoms, pickles, rics, bread and 2 mains... And good quality.

The card cost £25 and got a £20 off voucher when bought it.. That means only £5 which you save on your first meal order.!!

Love it
