Happy Fox Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Fulham-striker-Andrew-Johnson-told-he-can-leave-in-January-if-he-fails-to-agree-a-new-contract-article809749.html Andrew Johnson has been told he can leave Fulham when the January transfer window opens for around £2million if he fails to agree a new two-year deal at Craven Cottage. The 30-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the season and has already rejected an initial offer on significantly reduced terms. He is currently earning £40,000 a week, including appearance bonuses. Johnson has admitted he would like to stay at Fulham if the club is prepared to increase its initial offer. Yet despite him scoring nine goals this season, Fulham seem unlikely to meet Johnson’s demands. Fulham boss Martin Jol said: “Before I came to Fulham it was my policy to give players only one year. “We have offered him two, so there is a lot of confidence in him.” All of which has alerted QPR, Sunderland and Leicester, who are prepared to meet Fulham’s price and pay Johnson a salary in comparison to his current terms. Cash-rich Leicester City had a £3.5million offer rejected for Johnson in the summer while QPR were rebuffed after making an enquiry. It appears Fulham’s confidence that Johnson would sign a new deal to end speculation about his future may be misplaced.
jonthefox Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 I would love to see him here. However i think he 'll stay in the prem. But then again, i said that about beckford.

StanSP Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 £2m an absolute bargain And the big wages? Not so much a bargain. He'll stay in the Prem.

Cue the "He aint gud enuf for us" Numpties fire their usual shite about we should be aiming for better than this etc. All this despite the fact he has scored more goals than any of our strikers at a significally higher level this season. <_<

When we were linked with him in August most said "not impressed" or "prefer Maynard". Johnson's since banged in 9 goals which makes it a surprise Fulham won't cut him a deal, if that's true.

Doubtful. Maynard in Jan? I'd love a new thread about it...
Dan Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 The fvcking Mirror. lol Do their brain-dead writers read this place for the bites? Bullshit. Making Fulham's team and not needed, what embarrassingly lazy journalism.
The Doctor Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 The fvcking Mirror. lol Do their brain-dead writers read this place for the bites? Bullshit. Making Fulham's team and not needed, what embarrassingly lazy journalism. They didn't say not needed though did they? They said Fulham will sell if they can't agree terms for a new contract.
ajthefox Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Would be a decent signing, although if the reason they decide to let him go is because they can't get a new contract sorted then why not just wait until june and get him for free? I guess he could make the difference to someones season but still seems a bit odd to pay 2 mil for someone who only has 6 months of their contract left.
Happy Fox Posted 9 October 2011 Author Posted 9 October 2011 What is wrong with what we have now ? Nothing is wrong, however competition in the striker's department is needed, incase players get injured, loose form etc.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Sod Johnson, would love another decent goalkeeper in case Kasper gets injured.
Happy Fox Posted 9 October 2011 Author Posted 9 October 2011 Sod Johnson, would love another decent goalkeeper in case Kasper gets injured. Too true, who is available?
Fox92 Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 I would have thought some Premier League teams would be interested in him really. I think he would be decent for us, but £2million for a 30 year old; is it the way forward?

Babylon Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 however competition in the striker's department is needed, incase players get injured, loose form etc. Beckford, Nugent, Vassell, Schlupp, Howard, Waghorn..... I think we might be covered.
Thracian Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Beckford, Nugent, Vassell, Schlupp, Howard, Waghorn..... I think we might be covered. a) Not convinced about Beckford, talented as he obviously is. b) Good c) Not a striker d) Good e) Hope I'm wrong but I'd be surprised if he could be effective for more than 30--45 minutes at a time now. f) I'd doubt he'll play for us again. And doubt even more that he's good enough.

Guest Col city fan Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 I'd love to see Andrew Johnson at Leicester... Much better player with soooo much a better attitude than Beckford For me his pace would be fantastic at this level Can't see Fulham not sorting out a contract with him though
Happy Fox Posted 9 October 2011 Author Posted 9 October 2011 Beckford, Nugent, Vassell, Schlupp, Howard, Waghorn..... I think we might be covered. Forget Howard and Waghorn they are not long term options, Vassell as much as I admire him isn't a natural goal scorer, he will score a goal from time to time. That leaves in effect three options Beckford, Nugent and Schlupp.

Neither is Emile Heskey a centre back, I can remember you saying it would be a good idea to sign him for us and play him there because he played a half for Wigan in that position against Sheffield United the day Sheffield United got relegated. >_>
Dan Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 They didn't say not needed though did they? They said Fulham will sell if they can't agree terms for a new contract. I meant not needed by Leicester, mate. Sorry but with a bench of 5, Nugent, Vassell, Beckford and Schlupp is a far strong enough forward line, we don't need a 5th man who for all he was a good player, his career's on the down slope and his wages are massive, if we opted for him over Schlupp I'd seriously question what we're playing at.
