MC Prussian Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Bit embarrassing for both St. Ledger and the paper in particular. I can emphasize with the feel that he wants to get games. It's not like St. Ledger has turned bad overnight - he is a quality asset, but when you have Matt Mills and Sol Bamba taking the starting spots and playing well (as of recently), it's a hard task. Also, stripping the subs number from seven to five adds to the tragic mix, as well. Fight for your spot, Sean. Stay classy. And stop complaining via Irish media.
Ziggy1990 Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Limited centre half at best. Couldn't believe we had signed him in the summer, given all the people we were linked with.
StanSP Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Well when you're behind 2 better defenders in Mills and Bamba, who have kept 4 clean sheets in a row therefore creating a solid defensive partnership, as well as making a horrible mistake vs Bristol City (I know, it was a while back), then what do you expect? If it carries on like this, he sounds like he'll just work up a tantrum and throw his toys out the pram.
Jace Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 its his own fault he knew he would have competition for a place, Sven gave him a chance even dropped his 5million golden boy Mills for him and he cocked up badly, I genuinely saw us going on to beat Bristol and picking up 3 points until he messed up. I accept all players will make mistakes and deserve another chance but if he wants a place in the team at CB he will have to earn it like Bamba has
Narborough_fox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He obviously isn't fit every game I see him running up and down the touchline all during the warm-up. From Coventry to Derby he's been doing it so Rennie or Sven must think that he isn't fit for some reason.
davieG Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He has been an integral part of a team that has kept 8 (?) clean sheets against international teams and it's not as if Mills has been without mistakes. Wanting to play regularly shouldn't be seen as bad especially if it affects his chances of playing for his National team so of course it's bit of a nightmare for him with little chance of him getting games unless someone gets injured or banned not something you'd want him to wish for.
Babylon Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Tunchy will come back and he'll go out on loan if he keeps moaning.
Saxondale Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He must have know before he joined that he wouldn't be first name on the team sheet.
Babylon Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He must have know before he joined that he wouldn't be first name on the team sheet. Why?
Ashley Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Oh dear, he knew what he was letting him self in for when he signed. We have Sol Bamba and Matt Mills arguably the two best centre backs in the division. My advice to SSL, shut up moaning get your head down in training play well and you shall be rewarded with a start or sub appearance.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Its a long hard season and he will get games with injuries and suspensions coming into play at some point. Its a squad game these days
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 "But maybe I need to go on loan to get some football for the time being". Like thats going to happen...
Joe. Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 What does he expect? He signed in the summer when it was clear we were probably going to get somebody else in too, he can't have expected it to be an easy ride with our resources. I understand he wants to play football but sometimes you just have to accept you're first choice and work for your place.
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Fair play if he feels like that, but he's gone about this wrongly. Knuckle down, fight for your place etc if you want to earn one, don't cry to your own national newspaper.
LCFCstriker Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Wont Bamba be going to the African cup of nations? So we will need him for then if so...
Schlupp Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I don't think we brought him to start,Well we didn't did we.St Ledger is a utility player at the back it's just unfourtante for him that all of your injurys have been to the midfield,I like the lad I really do but this isn't the right way to go about it.
THEFATBASTARD Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 The lad is young, he has no idea what a REAL nightmare is...,try being stuck in a train compartment to bristol with diarrhea and no toilet....then get back to me....
Guest MattP Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Was a problem we were always going to be faced with having a big squad, going to be a big test keeping everyone happy as the season goes on.
Simo86 Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Wont Bamba be going to the African cup of nations? So we will need him for then if so... If he gets picked in the Ivory Coast squad that is, and if he is Sven will probably start Tunch
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He obviously isn't fit every game I see him running up and down the touchline all during the warm-up. From Coventry to Derby he's been doing it so Rennie or Sven must think that he isn't fit for some reason. He's probably just the '17th man' as it were (i.e. the one who would get the place on the bench if someone in the 16 gets injured in the warm-up). You wouldn't want to be left without someone ready if you did lose a man before the match. I can understand his frustrations a little. I know he had a chance against Bristol City and made a mistake, but by all accounts he's been good in the Carling Cup games and the behind closed doors friendlies. You would of thought that would merit at least a place on the bench, especially as he can play right back too. This 5 sub rule is ludicrous and I think it's hurting us a lot more than other clubs because of the big squad we have (players like St Ledger, Dyer, Moussa, Howard not getting a lot of involvement). I bet the majority of Championship clubs could fill a 7-sub bench so why not just have it that you can have up to 7 but that the minimum required is 5? Every club has a youth team/academy so it really annoys me when they only name 4 subs when they've got injuries/suspensions: stick some of the kids on there! I wouldn't see the problem with giving St Ledger a short-term loan move with a 24 hour recall option. At least it would keep him match fit and keep an unhappy player away from the squad. When Tunchev's loan is up we can always have him back into the fold as back-up. I can see St Ledger becoming a bit of a problem though, this isn't the first time he's moaned about not playing and he's only been here a couple of months. People say he's matured since the Big Ron Manager programme but it showed he's got that petulant streak in him and this is going to be the biggest test that it's had since that programme. But, if he isn't granted the loan move, then I'd expect that he knuckles down, keeps his mouth shut and fights harder for a place. Bamba's already picked up a few bookings and there's bound to be an injury at some point to him or Mills. If Peltier gets the nod ahead of him in the middle then that would be a pretty poor reflection on St Ledger. DJ Campbell Mark II?!
Basingstoke Fox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Like the lad and think he is a great player to have for just backup, although these comments have put him down a fair bit in my estimation. What a stupid thing to do. He's always the one that moans if he's not playing in my FIFA 12 career mode too.
Thracian Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I sympathise with his frustation but wonder what he'd do if he was manager? However you look at it, if we play with two centre-backs one of our three resident options is going to be unhappy and, while a loan idea is fine in theory, what happens if one of the centre-backs gets injured? Tunchev, another who might be frustrated, is already out on loan and the only answer to keeping them all happy would be to go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, rather like Middlesbrough. But, after so many games unbeaten and four successive clean sheets it's a high-risk suggestion just to satisfy a guy who proved to be his own worst enemy in a City shirt and who was dropped on merit. That said I've not quite understood the need for us to have four across the back this season. A team like:- Kasper, Mills, Tunchev, Bamber, Peltier, Fernandes, King, Konchesky; Vassell, Nugent, Schlupp..... doesn't look all bad to me. Especially with the likes of St Leger/Dyer/Abe//Beckford/Howard on the bench. But if we did it and started losing there'd doubtless be grumbles. St Leger needs to bide his time. His Irish place doesn't look under threat so he should just see the relatively gentle demands right now as extending his career. Players at top clubs often have to be patient. But what I would hope is that he's ready to show his best form when he does return because, internationally reliable or not, his brief efforts in a Leicester shirt have been disappointing.
davieG Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 According to this stats site Bamba has 3 yellows and Mills has 4 http://www.statbunker.com/football/btb/index.php?PL=team&TeamID=13&statType=discipline&CompID=370
