blue blood Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Atleast he seems to want match time and not pick up his wages by only spending time on the training pitch and not care
Corky Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 All these people saying we have Tunchev- we do, but look at his injury record. It's not certain he'll be fit so St Ledger was a required signing, considering Mee, Vitor and Bruma all went back to their clubs.
Earlydoorsjones Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 With this interview, he has just indicated that his decision to join Leicester from Preston was no different to a rat jumping a sinking ship. OK, a little harsh to call him a rat, but that is the expression and he was not prepared to go down with Preston. Read the interview carefully and he lets it be known that he joined City to continue his international career - NOT TO PLAY FOR THE BADGE, THE FANS OR HIS CITY TEAM MATES. He is not prepared to fight for his place, and wants to go on loan: Commitment issues Mr. Erikson!!! He is not at City for the right reasons, but to pick up a Championship pay cheque and play for Ireland. I want players in Blue that would drink paint for the club. Whilst I admire his patriotism, I am all for City, and we have had so many players join our club to collect the pay cheque - but not really commit to the cause. Think about just how much different Steve Howard's attitude is - not playing regularly, but when he comes on (as he did at Derby) he was all in - 100% passion and commitment! Well up for the cause. SSL is still playing for Ireland and is favoured by Trapatoni. His place is not in question. SSL - I cannot justify your place in a team that has the man mountain of Sol Bamba and a rapidly impressing Matt Mills in it. If you could do better than these two centre halves, then I could appreciate your point. But when others are enjoying the sort of form Mills and Bamba are, either be prepared to fight - or flight! Join another club or get on with it. I doubt he will be with us long because it sounds like he does not really want to be with us at all. City are the wrong end of a 10 year bad patch to want to see another player come to the club to have his real interests else where (think Howey, Keown, Draper, Mattock, Savage...) You can redeem yourself here: stop moaning, play better, break your way into the first team and show commitment to the club that you joined in order to avoid division 3 football. I know that SSL is a bit of a hero to many Irish fans and If I were Irish and not a City supporter, I would feel sorry for him too. But as I am not, I don't. I want commitment.
Alexikokopops Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I like how people assume that whenever a player says anything that isn't all roses and buttercups it's because they've "run to the media". It's almost as though people haven't heard of newspapers doing interviews, or press conferences, or the idea that it only takes one answer from a player to be used as the basis for a headline or an entire article.
Sparky Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I sympathise with his frustation but wonder what he'd do if he was manager? However you look at it, if we play with two centre-backs one of our three resident options is going to be unhappy and, while a loan idea is fine in theory, what happens if one of the centre-backs gets injured? Tunchev, another who might be frustrated, is already out on loan and the only answer to keeping them all happy would be to go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, rather like Middlesbrough. But, after so many games unbeaten and four successive clean sheets it's a high-risk suggestion just to satisfy a guy who proved to be his own worst enemy in a City shirt and who was dropped on merit. That said I've not quite understood the need for us to have four across the back this season. A team like:- Kasper, Mills, Tunchev, Bamber, Peltier, Fernandes, King, Danns, Konchesky; Vassell, Nugent, Schlupp/Beckford..... doesn't look all bad to me. Especially with St Leger/Dyer/Abe/Howard on the bench with either Schlupp or Beckford. But if we did it and started losing there'd doubtless be grumbles. St Leger needs to bide his time. His Irish place doesn't look under threat so he should just see the relatively gentle demands right now as extending his career. Players at top clubs often have to be patient. But what I would hope is that he's ready to show his best form when he does return because, internationally reliable or not, his brief efforts in a Leicester shirt have been disappointing. Looks bad to me, you've picked 12 men !!!
Webbo Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I think some people have short memories, it wasn't so long ago that some people were calling Bamba a bomb scare, Tunchev has a terrible injury record and Mills hadn't signed at the time. SSL had every reason to believe he'd be a first choice defender. He wants to play, that's understandable but like others have said, he'll get his chance.
Tielemans63 Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Read the interview carefully and he lets it be known that he joined City to continue his international career - NOT TO PLAY FOR THE BADGE, THE FANS OR HIS CITY TEAM MATES I don't think any of our new signings were realising a lifelong ambition by signing for our club. They all joined to further their careers and why not? There are very few players in the side who have true affinity with the club. Maybe Kingy? I'm not saying the others don't care, I just think to them it could be any badge if the price is right.
LCFC BEAST Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 He is NEVER going to break up the partnership between Bamba and Mills unless for injury/suspension but I think he still has a lot to offer. Just needs his chance to prove his worth.
MattyR Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 People are blowing this way out of proportion! He hasn't said anything bad, he is showing desire to play in fact!
Stay Positive Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 People are blowing this way out of proportion! He hasn't said anything bad, he is showing desire to play in fact! Totally agree. People seem to be missing this bit from the interview: "It's hard to get angry with the manager as he's such a nice man and a good person, he's brilliant to work under. I want to be successful at Leicester. It's a massive club with great potential so I have to keep working as hard as I can to stay in there".
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Totally agree. People seem to be missing this bit from the interview: "It's hard to get angry with the manager as he's such a nice man and a good person, he's brilliant to work under. I want to be successful at Leicester. It's a massive club with great potential so I have to keep working as hard as I can to stay in there". Agreed. Just because he was seen to be immature on a tv show about 5 years ago now, people are jumping on the bandwagon to question his attitude. What would people prefer him to say? "I couldn't give a **** because I'm on loadsamoney!!" I prefer players who want to play for a club rather than ones who couldn't care less one way or the other.
Guest ttfn Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Glad to see he wants to be playing. Hopefully this means that when Beckenbamba goes to the ACON he'll be desperate to step in and do a good job.
Kitchandro Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Totally agree. People seem to be missing this bit from the interview: "It's hard to get angry with the manager as he's such a nice man and a good person, he's brilliant to work under. I want to be successful at Leicester. It's a massive club with great potential so I have to keep working as hard as I can to stay in there". I don't see what he's said wrong either. I didn't want him here in the first place, I've never rated him, and then he had a nightmare against Bristol City (and it wasn't just the horrific error, he looked scared to be in possession throughout the match and it eventually cost him). But all he's saying is he wants to play football, he's hardly moaning. Somebody probably asked him a direct question about how he's doing at Leicester and he's just being honest and saying he'd rather be playing. No need to overreact, I think his reputation is preceding him.
ronnup Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 He's never been as good as he thinks he is, ask Preston fans.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Piss off then Sledge you duck-faced goon. *In all honesty, he didn't really say it was a "nightmare" being here. Clear he just wants to play. No chance at the minute, mind.
paddy Agyemang Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 thought this was a needless signing, would rather have Wayne Brown as back up tbh
Kilworthfox Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 He thinks he is alot better than he is! IMO he is an average Championship Centre half, & no competeition for 3 of our centre backs in Mills, Bamba & Tunchev.
Head Honcho Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I think Sven made a mistake signing him. He was signed to create competition with the squad, nothing wrong with that, but he's an international player and it was obvious he wasn't going to be happy sitting on the bench. Saying that he's on a 3 year contract so he needs to knuckle down and fight for his place.
Haydos Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Why do people keep using the phrase 'run to the media'? It's unlikely he's phoned up a journalist and asked to give an interview. I agree that he should knuckle down and mentioning loans is a bit unprofessional but give the lad a break, you lot will moan about anything.
Ambitious Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Right then Mr St Ledger, allow me just to bring you down to reality. Last season you were part of a defence that was relegated. The fact a high profile Manager like Sven feels you still have something to offer in the championship is a miracle. You were brought in as back up, a Club that want to get promoted are not gonna sign a defender who helped take a club down last season, as our number 5 or 6. Mills and Bamba are better than you. You could have stayed and played week in week out, you chose to move to a better club, grass isn't always greener is it son? If You dont like ur current squad status here then **** off to League One on loan, Im sure George Taft would be more than happy to step up to your place.
MrSpaM Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Well I hope he likes disappointment, because as our squad is at the moment, there’s no way he's getting let out on loan any time soon, the only other cover we have is Bruno (who’s pretty much past it) and Ball (who’s looked under par when he’s played).
