davieG Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Merc Leicester City have been given an injury boost after midfielders Richie Wellens and Michael Johnson returned to full training yesterday. City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson said he is confident that striker Jermaine Beckford and midfielder Andy King will also be available for the trip to Birmingham City on Sunday. However, Eriksson faces an anxious wait over the next couple of days to see if Beckford and King can join Wellens and Johnson on the training pitch. Wellens (groin), Johnson (shoulder) and Beckford (groin) all missed the 4-0 victory against Derby County 11 days ago, and King withdrew from the Wales squad last week after picking up a back injury against the Rams. However, Paul Gallagher is unlikely to feature at St Andrews despite making good progress after more than a month out of action with an ankle injury. "They are all getting better and Wellens and Johnson have joined in full training," said Eriksson. "They look okay for the weekend. "Then we have Beckford, Gallagher and King. I am pretty sure they might be available, all of them, for Birmingham. I hope they can train today or Thursday. If that is the case, they could be available. "Gallagher has been out for a while so he is doubtful, but the other two have a good chance. King has a back problem, but it is not serious. The problem is you can't really move with a back injury, but he is improving. "It would be good to have them all back and have the problem of who to pick." Gallagher has been sidelined since injuring his ankle after falling awkwardly at Barnsley last month, but Eriksson said he is not far away from a return to action. "You can see in Paul his smile has returned, ever since he was able to come outside and do some running," added Eriksson. "He was running and watching training, and he is happier now because he can leave the gym. He feels part of the group again." Meanwhile, City are hopeful of taking around 2,000 supporters with them to Birmingham.
Joe. Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Do we really need to rush any of them back after the Derby performance? Ideally it would be nice to have them all available, but you'd expect at least one of the midfielders there to be fine to start on Sunday. Hopefully King at least, he really needs to kick on after that showing.
kylestyle06 Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 King wasn't injured in the first place.... Was it just to rest him from playing for Wales?
Fox92 Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Good to hear that players are back in training, getting fit again. I don't like to see any player injured, but Sven should keep the same team that beat Derby.
Jace Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Even if Beckford is fully recovered by Sunday if he’s not been in full training the last couple of weeks and the team that played against Derby has Sven should keep the same team and put Beckford on the bench for now until he gets a week training under his belt theres no need to rush his recovery
Leicester_Loyal Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Sven should stick with the same team that beat Derby. However if King is injured, Johnson should take his place, not Wellens.
Ric Flair Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Great news! Sven's got a tough task deciding who to play. None of the team deserves to be dropped from the Derby game really, but if King is struggling then i'd like to see Johnson or Beckford replace him depending on their fitness. I fear that it will be Wellens that replaces King, with Johnson and Beckford on the bench and the fat, flowing passing will be lost in an instant. Oh well, i'll savour the Derby performance and cry myself to sleep.
marbelladave Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Not strictly on topic, but anyone have any info on what our players have been up to internationally. King had a somewhat convenient 'back problem' so did not play, training or not?...... Fernandes was an unused sub against Wales, played 5 minutes against Montenegro on Tuesday, hardly strenuous. Abe was an unused sub midweek, can't find if he played at all at the weekend in a friendly against Vietnam. Travel's a real killer though. Sol Bamba did not appear to get a call up, anyone think of anyone else?

marbelladave Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Abe played the second half against Vietnam. Thanks....... Given that and the travel issues he has to be doubtful for sunday, was poor when he played after the last break....... Give Johnson a go in a more attacking role. King or Fernandes holding.......anyone bot RFW......

Jimmy Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 PLEASE don't bring Wellens back in, our midfield worked so much better without him
Simmo86 Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Get Wellens back pronto !!!! :trumpet: :scarf: :appl: NO!
Bugg Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I thought Wellens had gone to Hull on loan? We can all wish...
Jace Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I thought Wellens had gone to Hull on loan? it's only a matter of time...
lestajigs Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 We can all wish... ****ing hell, he ain't that bad!!! Least deserves the bench
Ric Flair Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I thought Wellens had gone to Hull on loan? I'd take a 5 nil drubbing by Brum on Sunday if it meant no more Wellens, EVER
Corky Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 Hope King is fine, after playing so well against Derby. Beckford at least on the bench would be a great boost, and with three games in six days it'll be important to have as much of the squad as possible available.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I'd take a 5 nil drubbing by Brum on Sunday if it meant no more Wellens, EVER Amazing !!! ......and you pretend to "support" Lcfc
