Nigel Pearson?

With respect, I don't think any of those points hold much weight.

Style of football? Erm if we win who cares?

Personality? I mean C'mon. Sven was amazing and I loved him but he's gone now. And MON is hardly a barrel of laughs. More importantly, as above, if we win who cares if the press interviews are a little boring and restrained.

Defensive approach? That might be a step back in terms of footballing prowess as I said, but it's not necessarily going to harm us literally. Pearson knows how to win games

Taking us to the next level It's a fair enough stand point and maybe your right, but that is an opinion and we will never know either way unless he is appointed.

Lack of youth development Gradel is one example he let slip, it was a mistake. What about bringing Hobbs up to the point where we were all suggesting he would go on for England? What about what he got out of Waghorn in his time here? And more than either of those, Kingy?! He wasn't the first manager to give him a game but Pearson is the manager that took him from a young lad to the midfielder that scored 14 league goals for us last season

Pearson has his drawbacks but you can't argue with success.

To paraphrase a certain person who's name has also been mentioned this week, "I will love it, love it" if Pearson comes back..

a) What did we win under Pearson apart from promotion from a place we should never have been. We failed in the Championship because we were too cautious and didn't score enough goals or win enough away games.

b) The owners will care if they want a higher profile.

c) See (a). And it will harm us considerably if we wish to lift our profile. "Boring, boring Leicester" has been heard far too often over the years.

d) He's been appointed once and didn't take us to the next level, nor even particularly close. Hull seem to be just the same - a club that might make the play-offs but will be short of the goals necessary for a top two spot.

e) Not one youth player came through to establish himself under Pearson's guidance and it's pointless pretending otherwise. He totally failed to appreciate Gradel's capabilities and King was a first teamer and regular goalscorer at various levels, long before his arrival.

The Reserves all but disappeared as an entity under Pearson with a whole lot of promising youngsters having very little opportunity to develop their abilities at the stage beyond Academy. Even such reserve games as their were became "behind closed doors" affairs as the club took itself further and further from the fans.

What "success" are you talking about? Fifth with no flair, no sign of being determined to win away games. poor media communication and more caution on our travels than a bloke wearing three condoms.

I'll be happy to praise Pearson - when he achieves something. But he was cautious at Southampton, cautious at Leicester and he's been cautious at Hull. Southampton seem to be achieving far more in a short time under the positive, attacking philosophy of Nigel Adkins than they were ever likely to do under Pearson or than we did when Pearson was here because they are focused, home or away, on scoring goals and winning.

yea there was the need.. its how i feel.. i dont rate him as much as others( we havent even touched on the loyalty part of it).. i dont think he did as much as others do..

just because leeds and southamption etc couldnt manage it dont mean its the bee all and end all,. we had a decent squad,it was league one.. if others want to claim that as a major achievement thats fine, im not going to though.

then as you say, 5th,, we should have won the first leg. but we didnt which is what i was getting at..

I was just using other teams as examples, and yes 'it was only League 1' but you can only beat what is in front of you, and our unbeaten run was sensational regardless of the opposition.

I agree we should have won the first leg, but we didn't which put us in a hard position going into the second leg.

Not aimed at you, but people who talk about Pearson's style of football. Ok it wasn't always great to watch, but, if it was as bad as what people make out why would the likes of Mark Davies, Tom Cleverley, Wellens and Gallagher all want to join?

Look, it's fookin irrelevant.

We got to a stage in the 2nd leg where we were leading in the tie. From that point onwards, why does it matter what happened in the previous leg.

The match was there for the taking and due to personal error, we lost the tie.

I absolutely refuse to let people spout this nonsense about the first leg.

Do you think Middlesbrough fans are looking back to the league cup final 13 odd years ago now thinking "What happened in the replay is not important, we should've won the the first match anyway"..?

*I apologise for the tone of the response and for using big letters to add emphasis, but it was necessary

Say what you like as I'm sure you will, but I'm not even going to bother try to debate with such a skewed, stubborn and one sided argument such as yours, it literally serves no purpose but to waste my time.

Why does everyone keep mentioning gradel as a reason for not getting Pearson back? For a start, Pearson said at the time he actually wanted to keep Gradel and didn't want him sold. This smacked to me as a mandaric / hoos sale and may be one of the reasons they all fell out. The way Mandaric interfered with everything was the main reason he went... Now they have gone... Pearson can't wait to get back to the job he didn't get to finish!! Especially when he will probably triple his salary... He'll be back if offered the job he loves the bloody place... And if only to get out of Hull!!!

Our craving for Pearson is a certain testimony to how woeful we've been over these last few years. Indeed a problem with today's fans is that many have never known us when we've played attacking football and been a test for the best. They've have years of such dross that any kind of win is to be celebrated and any style of play accepted so long as we don't lose. But the trouble is we do lose and we do draw far too often. And the reason is we're never committed enough to scoring the goals which will see us winning more often than not. Give me someone like Nigel Adkins any day.

I reckon you should be a Forest fan. You seem to like living in the past.

This is meant with no malice at all, it's just an observation.

Sorry about that, you're obviously a better fan than me then. I'm just happy if we win, sorry for not expecting Barcelona-esque beautiful football.

William Hill will give him to you for 40/1. ;)

Surprised his name hasn't been mentioned as "number one" for the position yet... he hasn't even made any "shortlist" as far as I can recall. We clearly haven't mentioned Adkins nearly enough on the boards... ;)

I agree with your point, I don't how the poster you quoted can argue Pearson doesn't know how to win the most important games, but good grief, I can't believe that 18 months later you're still bitter. I don't even know what your referring to, I assume you mean the Bruce penalty which from what I remember was a penalty, but that is besides the point.

Being conned aside, what we did in that match was heroic, it was personal error that cost us not Pearson's managerial tactics so again, I don't really see where the poster is coming from. Must be another for whom winning just simply isn't enough. And if anyone even so much as mentions the phrases "1st leg" and "should've won" I will be livid.

Yes, I am still bitter, and I will be until we make up for it by getting promoted.

I am not just referring to their penalty, which WASN'T a penalty as Chopra was blatantly offside when the ball was played through to him. I can't believe you do not remember this. I remember thinking just seconds before that we were holding them very well and they looked as if they'd ran out of ideas. That was particularly gut-wrenching.

But I'm also talking about 2 blatant handballs in the first leg for which we should have had 2 penalties. I'm talking about the Whittingham free kick which was taken yards further in than from where the foul was actually committed (and yes that is significant, it went in off the post so fine margins count).

I'm also talking about the second leg where they should have had 2 players sent of in extra time, one where Chopra purposefully kicked Wellens' in the head when he was on the floor, and the other when Berner was running through in the very last minute and was cynically and dangerously hacked at knee height.

It's too often that a supposed world class referee is excused of a terrible, match costing performance just because the game was rightly memorable for being a great spectacle.

I don't know how people can doubt Pearson's ability, he did a great job and made us overachieve in his only season in the Championship. He certainly knows what to do at this level and did 10x the job Sven did on nowhere near the budget.

You're delusional, why would Adkins walk away from a side top of the league, where the fans love him, the players want to play for him to us? Do you really think we're some sort of Barcelona, Man Utd in this league? Fool.

MON or Hughes over Pearson any day for me. Having said that, I'd be fully behind Nige if he came back in.

Consistancy of results, reaching the play offs, not being in lower half of the league while spending 10 mil + etc
