sapalmer Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 As much as i love Pearson for what he did for us, i think it's the wrong appointment should it happen and in a way a step back. I maybe in the minority but I would not be pleased to see NFP return. Dour man with a dour style - we have bigger aspirations and I think we would do better with a number of the other names mentioned. MON clearly but also Hughes, Di Matteo would be better IMO. I think our new owners will have set there aspirations higher to get the club where we all want it. Really hope NFP stays at Hull and I know we were successful under him but the football was dreary.
ADAMSKI97 Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 Nigels Coming Home , obviously the owners read foxes talk If Carlsberg made Leicester City football managers He would pick players in there best position He would create a balanced team He would know his best 11 He would have a prefered formation He would be able to get the best out of each player He would know which players to kick and which to put his arm around He would have a plan B when things arn't going your way He would command respect from the players (they don't fook him about) His team have a good disapline record on and off the pitch You don't hear any rumours about team spirit He would have a track record of success I wonder who would fit the bill I know what about Nigel Pearson ? Havent you got a game to go to later today!!! We shall see mate!!
Corky Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I'm not bothered what he's like in the media, we've had media friendly managers who did nowhere near as well as Pearson. It's about style and results. Who knows, we might be more expansive this time.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 a BIG step back.. people reckoned we was the laughing stock for sacking Sven.. this would be even more of a joke... Bot really. NP should never have gone in the first place. Reappointing him just shows we were wrong in the first place
Webbo Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I guess he'll be asked again after the game today. we'll probably know more by teatime.
Corky Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I guess he'll be asked again after the game today. we'll probably know more by teatime. Will he be there if the rumours are true?
m00nie Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I don't see how getting a manager back who knows how to win games of football is a step back... pity he didnt know how to win the game that mattered the most..
ajthefox Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 As much as i love Pearson for what he did for us, i think it's the wrong appointment should it happen and in a way a step back. a BIG step back.. people reckoned we was the laughing stock for sacking Sven.. this would be even more of a joke... I agree to an extent in terms of how we might play football, but I'm interested as to your reasonings for saying it's a step back. There is a part of me which wants Pearson more than MON. MON took us as far as he could and is a God for doing so, if he did it twice that would be insane but Pearson never had that chance. No-one really knows exactly what happened and the specifics are sketchy, but either way Pearson's reign was cut short. I have never been as proud to wear our badge as I was that night in Cardiff, and its just wrong what happened after it. If Pearson came back, (which I think is highly unlikely I might add) he'd obviously be coming into a completely new team, but he would have the chance to carry on, to finish what he started and to take us to where we want to be. He deserves that chance. I personally think he'd have to be a bit mad to come back and I don't think he wants to, but if he did I can honestly say I'd be happier than if MON came back. Too many people, most of them of the younger generation are going mad for MON because it's what everyone else is doing and they feel they should when honestly, I think they are kidding themselves if they think they can fully appreciate what MON did for the club. I'm 21 this month, and to be totally honest, deep down MON doesn't mean as much to me as he does to someone 10 years older. I've been a city fan since birth but I didn't really take a serious enough interest in my earliest years to be able to realise just how much of an achievement doing what MON did was. And as I said, I think there are a lot of people on here who need to think harder and be a bit more honest with themselves and indeed others about why they hold MON in such great esteem. You show me a 10 or 11 year old who fully appreciates the difficulties and the gravitas of getting a championship side into the Uefa Cup in the space of 4 years, and I'll show you a flying pig..
leicesterisme Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 Will he be there if the rumours are true? I'd imagine so, he's a very professional man.

As someone who is not one of the younger generation I would make the following thoughts for it being a step back: - Style of football - Personality of NFP - Defensive approach - IMO NFP would struggle to take us to the next level - Lack of Youth development I.e. gradel treatment However, I do accept this maybe a minority view although a lot of the generation of fans I speak to are clearly against NFP returning.
Houdini Logic Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 pity he didnt know how to win the game that mattered the most.. You musn't have been at the South End game
Thracian Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 As much as i love Pearson for what he did for us, i think it's the wrong appointment should it happen and in a way a step back. It'll be what it was before - functional tedium. You can't help but respect the man and there's no question he's a good manager in terms of results and discipline but expansive, exciting, entertaining? He'd need a whole new personality. Not impossible but highly unlikely. What I still see first with Pearson is him being all smiles in putting his arm around Gradel after the youngster saved the game at MKDons and then metaphorically kicking him in the balls thereafter. He's the sort who would sooner have the safety valve of Oakley or someone similar on the wing than the flair of Gradel and who will revert to kind whenever we play anyone any good. And as for Hull fans wondering if he'd buy our ex-players back, there's no-one I'd want. They're not good enough. Although, having assembled them I might have thought he'd show the loyalty to see the season through. Pearson doesn't seem to give a shit about pleasing the fans with the football he produces. He only cares about results. And as for being the "big name" the Thais say they want and the media-friendly personality who will lift our profile as we progress, Pearson would be one of my last choices. He clearly didn't like talking to the Press and sounded as if he resented giving even the cursory answers he did. If the Thais want Leicester City to become a global brand we need more than that. We need someone like the Late Sir Bobby Robson - a bloke whose enthusiasm was infectious and who showed the utmost respect and understanding for anyone doing their job.

Let it go, he's not coming back. I'm afraid you're wrong on that point. In his interview, Top said it didn't matter if it was a big name or not. He wants someone to motivate the players and with knowledge of the league. So in that respect, I don't think there's a massive problem if we appoint Pearson.
Petchy Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 Bugger thinking about Leicester being a global brand! How about we try and get on a good run and into the Prem first.. bloody hell! We need to walk before we can run.

With respect, I don't think any of those points hold much weight. Style of football? Erm if we win who cares? Personality? I mean C'mon. Sven was amazing and I loved him but he's gone now. And MON is hardly a barrel of laughs. More importantly, as above, if we win who cares if the press interviews are a little boring and restrained. Defensive approach? That might be a step back in terms of footballing prowess as I said, but it's not necessarily going to harm us literally. Pearson knows how to win games Taking us to the next level It's a fair enough stand point and maybe your right, but that is an opinion and we will never know either way unless he is appointed. Lack of youth development Gradel is one example he let slip, it was a mistake. What about bringing Hobbs up to the point where we were all suggesting he would go on for England? What about what he got out of Waghorn in his time here? And more than either of those, Kingy?! He wasn't the first manager to give him a game but Pearson is the manager that took him from a young lad to the midfielder that scored 14 league goals for us last season Pearson has his drawbacks but you can't argue with success. To paraphrase a certain person who's name has also been mentioned this week, "I will love it, love it" if Pearson comes back..
hemelfox Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I just can't see this happening as much as I would like it. I'm not too bothered about the style of football that we would play under him or his personality when it comes to dealing with the press. What matters is results. We have a good defence which in my opinion can only get better under Pearson but we have far better attacking options than he had previously. Shakespeare is a very good coach and Steve Walsh is an excellent scout. All things combined he could be an excellent option for us right now but as I said I am not sure he would come back.
Thracian Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 I'm not bothered what he's like in the media, we've had media friendly managers who did nowhere near as well as Pearson. It's about style and results. Who knows, we might be more expansive this time. Like it or not the media is a massive part of the football circus. Part of our declared intent is to become much higher profile. Some say Pearson has changed at Hull in terms of his attitude to the media but I didn't see it last time out. He seemed as resentful as ever. I'll happily acknowledge otherwise if it proves the case but, if not, there's no way Pearson fits the requirements for this aspect of our needs. Aspiring managers may be taught on coaching courses to deflect the prying enquiries of the Press but in truth it is the media which fuels so much of the interest, debate, controversy and fascination of football. Pearson should be grateful and appreciate it is the media that puts such inflated wages into his pocket, however boring the football he produces..

You make some fair points aj especially about Andy King, however I do think personally that results are obviously important but style and making the step to the prem are important. MON cannot be compared to NFP with regard to his management of the media - one of NFP's failings. Clearly, we will not all agree but I cannot believe that any fan would not take MON if we can possibly convince him to return-despite the silence it may yet be a surprise that we will all be delighted with. I for one would be disappointed if it is not MON but even more disappointed if NFP returns - give us Sparky if MON says no.
Kitchandro Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 pity he didnt know how to win the game that mattered the most.. The game that promoted us from League one? If you're talking about importance, getting out of league one was number 1. And lets not forget, we were absolutely conned against Cardiff. Had the referees done their job in both games we would have almost certainly been in the final.

And lets not forget, we were absolutely conned against Cardiff. Had the referees done their job in both games we would have almost certainly been in the final. Not to mention the away leg being the game we had to win, which we did. We then lost on penalties; lottery.
Fox92 Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 pity he didnt know how to win the game that mattered the most.. Any need? Pearson walked into a relegation squad, which is hard enough for any manager, and won the League. We won promotion at the fist attempt; something other good and big teams such as Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Southampton did not achieve. He then lead us to 5th place in the Championship play offs. Ok, we should have beat Cardiff in the first leg, but we I personally think we gave a good account in the second leg. We were 0-2 down, and I think everyone would have took penalties then. We were leading 3-2 and then Cardiff made it 3-3 (from the penalty spot remember). The management team had no control in the penalty shoot out, and we all know what happened with Kermogant. And if you were only joking, I still stand by my comment.
Happy Fox Posted 5 November 2011 Author Posted 5 November 2011 I would be very surprised if NP comes more so than MON the reasons being why leave a club that he has built up, doesn't make sense to me that is why I cannot see it happening MON will come I am sure that and if not, Hughes will probably get the job.

I wasn't so much trying to make a point that they were similar, more that personality really for me doesn't matter that much. I love the bloke for what he's done for us and so I take an interest in whatever he says. Oh don't get me wrong, I'd take MON in a heartbeat, I'm just 51% Pearson 49% MON. I won't really be that disappointed if it's not MON, but that's because not for one minute have I ever genuinely thought it would be. I can't see any realisticly likely appointment inspiring me. The game that promoted us from League one? If you're talking about importance, getting out of league one was number 1. And lets not forget, we were absolutely conned against Cardiff. Had the referees done their job in both games we would have almost certainly been in the final. I agree with your point, I don't how the poster you quoted can argue Pearson doesn't know how to win the most important games, but good grief, I can't believe that 18 months later you're still bitter. I don't even know what your referring to, I assume you mean the Bruce penalty which from what I remember was a penalty, but that is besides the point. Being conned aside, what we did in that match was heroic, it was personal error that cost us not Pearson's managerial tactics so again, I don't really see where the poster is coming from. Must be another for whom winning just simply isn't enough. And if anyone even so much as mentions the phrases "1st leg" and "should've won" I will be livid.
