m00nie Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Why do people assume he's itching to "prove" himself for us? He came to Leicester for the money, plain and simple. He'd be happy as larry sitting on the bench, preferably not as a sub, and taking home his wages for not playing. My Evertonian friends told me: "that Beckford lad will do a job for yooze lot: a very bad job!!" whilst the idea of sitting doing nothing but still getting paid sounds good to us, i doubt footballers really imagine that.. football is a short career as it is so sitting away in teh background isnt going to help your chances.. they would want to be playing, well, scoring.. making a decent name and career to help prolong it ending.. Evertonians where quite happy when they had him.. people thought he was decent then,, how many times do you hear people say good riddance etc whilst there still there....
RyanB89 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 and Yes i would start him, but only because i wouldnt start howard
EnderbyFox Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Hate this "never change a winning team" if this worked we wouldn't have not won consecutive games since February or whatever it is.
Fox92 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 We won our last game so I would make no changes regardless of Beckford and Leeds.
Jace Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I would start him perfect game to kick start his Leicester career. If everybody wants to drop him and get on his back already before hes even had a decent chance to prove himself then we may aswell get rid because strikers need confidence to regain form
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Give him a chance to start and tell him he has a point to prove. If he does nothing, bring him off and give him a dressing down. "Only weak people feel pressure" Exactly!
leicesterisme Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 No, but I'd bring him on early in the 2nd half for Howard. Think Howard will cause their defence some serious problems, they're shakey as fvck and facing Howard isn't going to help them settle. Also to add to that Howard seems to turn into a footballing genius whenever we play Leeds.
themotivator Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 i dont know. if i knew him, had spoken to him and the rest of the team on a regular basis, and had a wealth of experience of dealing with players in similar situations and had watched him train every day then i would feel more confident that my opinion would be valid. obviously its tempting to leave him out as he has been dogshit, but he could prove everyone wrong by firing himself up against his old team and playing a blinder. steve has a reputation against leeds and nugent is on form. it would be safe to stick with the two of them really.
gazfox9 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 No, he's got to earn his place, like Steve Howard has done. And from what I've seen of Beckford thus far I doubt he's even earnt a place on the bench.

If everybody wants to drop him and get on his back already before hes even had a decent chance to prove himself then we may aswell get rid because strikers need confidence to regain form The issue isn't about 'dropping him'. He's already been dropped. The question is whether he should be re-instated to the starting eleven.
Tielemans63 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 No. Putting him back in when the Howard / Nuge partnership looked promising would be the wrong thing to do in my mind. We should keep him on the bench. And if he is super intent on proving himself and he does have the right attitude then start him on the bench - he'd surely be desperate to come on and prove a point to both teams. We'll prob learn a lot more about his attitude and commitment if he's made to fight to regain his place. Giving it back to him doesn't send out the right message IMHO.
LUFC1919 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Beckford would have a field day against our cart horse centre backs (Kisnorbo and O'Brien). You always beat us anyway so put your reserve side out.
lcfcnugent Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 never change a winning team- maybe put beckford on the bench
Thracian Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Not at all. For me he'd remain fourth choice striker behind Schlupp.
blueredswed Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 I would ply him and aslo Sven but now we have KEANEEE so he would play whatever he wants. Welcome
J.Lisemore Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Nope, would be tempted to put him on the bench though.
ScouseFox Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Yes. I think. Not sure, good dilemma to have though.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Why change a winning side? Since Dyer is apparently fit now i would rarther have him on the bench than Beckford to be honest
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 Nope, would be tempted to put him on the bench though. Agreed.
Captain... Posted 4 November 2011 Posted 4 November 2011 If Dyer is fit I would start him, Beckford has to play a role in this match, it is too early to write him off, give him the first half or the last half hour against Leeds in front of the new manager to prove himself. We have a very talented footballer on our hands and we need to find a way of getting him playing at his best, leaving him out against his old club will probably make him retreat in to himself. A good performance on Sunday and a new manager to work with over the international break could be just what he needs, he clearly wasn't responding to Sven. Dyer in for Danns and Beckford to Start with Steve to come off the bench to score the winner.
Thracian Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 If Dyer's fit he should definitely be involved. But why would Howard lose his place? He was a big reason for our cloes-to-match-saving recovry against West Ham and played a decent part in our battling win at Burnley. I just don't see he case for dropping him in favour of a bloke who's shown nothing so far. Beckford should wait his turn and have a good think in the meantime about his attitude. He should keep himself fit and be determined to make the best of any future chance if he gets one. But overall it's high time our team was picked on merit instead of politically and that was one of the big pluses at Burnley. And if Beckford fails to learn from being dropped and somehow reacts by sulking or feeling sorry for himself so what? It's the team that matters and if the club has to cut its losses in the end so be it. It's up to Beckford really but he's done nothing to earn his place so far and I really don't give a shit if those who've replaced him keep him out of the side for the entire length of his contract if he carries on with the effor he's shown so far.
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2011 Posted 5 November 2011 On what remote basis should he even be considered for starting? with Thrac, he's fourth choice striker for the time being.
