fox_favourite Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Exactly right... Again.... For the final time if any of the managers felt that we could replace our off form players with anyone better, they would have done so!! Managers want to win football matches. It is NO coincidence that both Sven and Pearson played a similar team most weeks.. Essentially because they both thought/ think they are the best we have. What this shows to me is the big fook up that Sven has made with the midfield players. He had money to strengthen that area with real quality. And he failed big time in this respect. I have no doubt that the midfield will be Pearsons first concern. Both with width and strength. We have neither and I fully expect Nige to address this come Jan. Until then he has to work with what we have and he feels that Abe, Gelson and fat Johnno just aren't good enough to consistently replace Wellens and King. There is no point replacing off form players with no better. Both Sven and Nige know this. Not sorting out the midfield, long term with real quality in that area was Svens downfall IMO. Fair play, he tried, but didn't succeed. Tough bloke alongside creative bloke in that midfield..... That's what we should have done IMO. I completely agree with you, spot on. But what concerns me is the level of dis-satisfaction among the fans? These sorts of pole shouldn't be done after a handful of games. When we get two wins on the trot (which I believe we will achieve) then everyone will be more positive and the players will get the buzz back again. Like I said in another thread I personally believe Pearson needs to bring in young players with bags of energy and flair and that might spark the whole team to life. I'm not suggesting wholesale changes just one or two wingers. Think what impact Naughton had on the team when he game, bags of ability, flair and wanted to just play football. Waghorn to a certain extent when he first came on loan. He had passion and hated failure and we all loved him for that and it seemed to rub off on the rest of the team. Also, we had the buzz from promotion. So these polls are just a waste of time at the moment. But if I did vote I will always say Pearson is the long term solution. Look what he did at Hull, got rid of all the unwanted, over paid players and brought in new, young exciting players and it worked. Barmby hasn't really had much to do. So please EVERY fan needs to get behind Pearson, Shakey, Walsh and the players and lets give the players a positive place to come to and lets start climbing the league. Let Walsh show his ability in the transfer market and then we'll will start to see the Pearson team. Don't criticise him now, that just doesn't help! So lets give every player the LCFC spark back from two seasons ago and then we can push on to the promise land. In Nigel I very much trust!

On the subject of the young, hungry players with a point to prove, I would ALWAYS go for this type of player. Purely on my own personal experience.. When I was younger I wanted to succeed and was very ambitious. I'd always 'go the extra mile' and go 'above and beyond what was expected' because I wanted to be promoted. I got to where I wanted to be when I was early thirties. When I finally got there, the 'ambitious' bit went, to some extent, and I've found myself wanting to do things outside of work to keep my momentum going, so to speak. I've seen enough and done enough to be satisfied to slow down at work, some days, and just to get done what I need to, but not much more. Now I'm not arrogant enough to say that everyone is like this. But I think many people are, again in my experience. At City, I'd like to see players who still retain that drive, that vision, those dreams to be attained.... Billy Sharp, for example, would be such a player. To leave Donny and join Leicester would mean he would earn more money, would have to improve to get a starting place in the first team, and could live the dream of possibly playing in the Prem. To compare him to Beckford, for instance, here we have a player who has played in the Prem, failed to be honest to develop himself into a regular player, and has come to Leicester in his late twenties on a wage which will comfortably see him right for the next four years. A team full of 'Sharps' or a team full of 'Beckfords'..I know which I would always go for... However, like MON did, I would always add one or two older heads to whip the young, ambitious lot into shape on the pitch. The balance is essential... but to be sending out Jeff Schlupp on loan, at present, whilst playing big Steve in the first team, to me makes no sense whatsoever... I hope Nige sees this and looks for younger, hungry players with that 'point to prove' thing that I mentioned. Jusy my opinion, take it or leave it...
artursteppe Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 So all, sorry, so the one or two fans who still somehow believe Wellens is OK have sneeked themselves into this little corner have they. Take note guys - Wellens is crap, King is average, Danns is unimpressive, Dyer is average to poor in equal measure, Gally is a fairy who might get a few goals in a season - face facts, Abe and Fernandes are both much better options than any of them, Bamba, Peltier and Johnson would probably also be better as well ( Pantsil and Tunchev could be utilised in defence ) - so all you guys have done is to actually prove you know as little as Pearson! Get rid of the rubbish who have been our under-performing midfield now since Sven got sacked. ALL of them. If Pearson gets rid of them, he can continue for a while longer to try and prove he is not totally dim!

Get rid of the rubbish who have been our under-performing midfield now since Sven got sacked. ALL of them. I'll ask again, not that you ever answer. What have Abe and Fernandes actually done to prove they are any better than what we have? I've seen all of their games and they blow as hot and cold as all the other players you mention. Good one game, shit the next, average the one after. If these players had actually done anything noteworthy with the chances they have had I could understand the venom aimed at those playing and in charge, but they quite simply have not! Under-performing since Sven got sacked? We've underperformed since Pearson left us last time around. Svens last 6 is identical to Pearsons, yet he had a year longer to work with them and sign the players HE wanted.
Tielemans63 Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Get rid of the rubbish who have been our under-performing midfield now since Sven got sacked. ALL of them. I think you'll find they were pretty ineffective BEFORE Sven got sacked and he was the one who built that midfield. Plus, do you really think getting rid of ALL of them would help? Surely it's about finding the right balance? Perhaps you're not as intellectually superior to Nige as you think you are?

hbkkids Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 a lot of people on here dont seem to rate dyer, but i think he is actually quite good, he has some good pace and is always making runs, he always chaces the ball, if he loses it he tries to win the ball back, (unlinke beckford who has a sulk) and he can unleash a powerful shot.
ithuriel Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 I do not rate Dyer has a prem winger obviously :xmaslaugh: and he is going to struggle against any team that knows how to handle pace but he is our only real wideman with any real pace and give's his all. Until we can get a couple of player's who are better he is a valuable squad member and since Pearson brought him in it does make you wonder exactly what Sven and Soussa was thinking in term's of attacking play in this division :xmasunsure:
Thracian Posted 22 December 2011 Posted 22 December 2011 What bothers me most about our current situation is the number of fans - even on this site - who've said they've lost interest. Our managers have never had more financial backing nor a greater cmmitment to all-round excellence from any owner but what should be a time of excitement and entertainment has become a massive anti-climax. As a club we could be likened to one of those old Bell Fruit Amusement machines where we keep putting our pennies in, pulling the handle to spin the wheels but, no matter how many times we try we can't hit the jackpot. In fact we're not even getting two matching fruits out of three very often. There are so many basic requirements for a successful team ... inspiring manager, complimentary players, organisation, fitness and incredible team spirit. I don't know that we've got more than one out of five. Is Beckford a flop? Is Mills a liability? Is Wellens more past it than month-old milk? You can argue all day. But what I do know is that we've got no partnerships. Beckford/Nugent; King/Wellens; Bamba/Sean St Leger, Peltier/Gallagher...it's all like trying to mix oil with water. Hopeless! It's as if we've been let loose in a supermarket to buy ingredients for a feast and not given the slightest thought to blending those ingredients together. Now we're at another terminus. For the umpteenth time on the same journey it's "all change". Trouble is we know the destination but no-one seems to have any idea about how to get there. Well, my lads a chef. He doesn't need to spend fortunes. He can spend a pittance choosing precisely the right items to make any dish tantalise the tastebuds. And so it is with footballers. What matters is that not the value of the signings but that the manager can make all those signings blend together so that the finished product is something to behold. That means having partnerships everywhere which compliment one another. It means having a group of people who instinctively move and operate in tandem - all for one and one for all - never doubting their ability to overcome any obstacle and never leaving one of their own without assistance. We've got a big squad but very few performers who can say they've consistently done themselves justice and that is the biggest condemnation of our management - Sven, Pearson and even others before them. We've signed people like Fernandes, Danns and Johnson for no apparent reason judging by either their performances or involvement. Bulgarian international Tunchev helped Palace to heights I'd doubt they imagined this season but has become the forgotten man at Leicester. Schlupp, from being a promising scorer, has been all but sidelined and all this while the team has gone backwards rather than forwards through perhaps trying to do the right things but with the wrong blend. What City fans need is some intent and that won't come if we continue the flawed tactic of trying to beg wins by sitting back whenever we get in front. Consistency will come with an all-round sense of purpose and a determination to score the goals each season which will give us the chance of achieving our aims. That means applying pressure, pressure, pressure for as much of the game as we possibly can. Sitting back just takes the urgency and excitement out of our play and that's the last thing we need. Winning football is first and foremost about attitude.

Guest MattP Posted 22 December 2011 Posted 22 December 2011 Great post Thrac. It's a silly poll as I still believe Pearson is the man who can get us out of this league, it's ridiculous to even think about judging him before he has the opportunity to sign his own players, not to mention clear out the stench that Sven purchased that is probably killing the dressing room.

The biggest stench in the dressing room comes from certain players NOT bought by Sven. But as they're Pearson's favourites he'll stay loyal to them.

I agree with the vast majority of your post but there's two points I would make in response. Firstly, I think it's unfair to mention NP as someone responsible for the current mess. I would say the malaise is very much down to the haphazard management of Sven and the ineptitude of Sousa. I would also argue that NP's City side was built on solid if unspectacular partnerships - Brown / Hobbs, Wellens / King, Howard / Fryatt. I think Nigel has the ability to bring that back. It sounds like I'm licking NP's arse but I'm really not - I recognise his limitations and there were times during his first spell when his conservatism drove me mad. However, his was the best City side we've had since MON and even though we fell to Cardiff - that was a great season and the team had a tangible team spirit and work ethic. I don't see why NP can't foster that again.

This is where society is all wrong now, especially in footballing circles, the lightning speed in which we judge things now and in such half baked fashion! - the fact that we are even having a poll on this subject spells this out as clear as day! Is Pearson the long term answer - well only somebody from the future, who's possibly lived through the year 2012 already would know the answer to that - and I've yet to meet that person!

But know we look spineless playing an old man( :xmaslaugh: ) at 31 in the middle. you then give him an extra day of cos he is tired. Make him move to leicester so he ain't traveling 6hrs a day for traing or fvck him off. And NP if you can't do that fvck off yourself IMHO gonna re vote to NOT AT ALL

I have no idea why there is any Beckford love? I see a player who I am beginning to rate as one of the worst strikers I've seen in a City shirt in all the years I've been watching. Even 'Martin Henderson' was better! lol
